Gronk?

It doesn’t seem far-fetched he comes back around week 13. They used to keep him out of the entire preseason. This is an arrangement to make him healthy and available when it counts most.

Just his blocking alone would make a big difference.

Evan Lazar on his Twitter references the fact Izzo has the lowest rating for blocking. From best last year to worst so far this.

I think it’s very realistic. If we had some amazing replacements, then he wouldn’t have a roster spot to come to but we don’t. And he avoids the wear and tear of a whole season. Plus teams are more tired and beaten up end of year anyway as well as poor weather and games are usually lower scoring and run oriented and he has less chances of being banged on a catch in the middle. Also it will make huge headlines if/when he returns which would put him back into the spotlight to push his corporate cause.
And he’d play for free.

Oh OK. I could have sworn I've read the trade deadline was the return deadline. Similar to how that (or right around then) is the deadline for players holding out to return if they want an accrued season towards free agency.

The trade deadline is the deadline to come back without clearing waivers. Now, the Patriots may be able to work out a deal with the #1 waiver wire team (which I believe is and will continue to be the Arizona Cardinals) to, for example, claim Gronk via waivers and get a 7th round pick in a trade with the Patriots. But you never know if something like that will happen.

Are you overly optimistic to believe that, after 20 concussions, he can risk his life and "pull it off"?

Sure he can. Personally, I am NOT rooting for him to return. Obviously, it is a decision for him and the team to make.

We probably would only need Gronk at his best for 2-3 regular season games and then (hopefully) 2 home playoff games and the superbowl.

Is it overly optimistic to believe that, at age 30, he can pull this off?

Gronk said last week that his weight had been down to 250 from 265 as he wanted to feel a little light after being 265 from the age of 18 onwards. He said he was working on putting the weight back to 265 now. Separately he mentioned how any return would likely be week 14ish for a postseason run.

I’m pretty sure that the week 14 quote during his Barstool appearance was said in jest. The only way I can see him returning is if he starts to get the itch and then Brady gives him the “We need you, Gronk. I need you, Gronk. This may be my last shot.” speech.

Would Gronk have to go through waivers? If so, I suspect that AZ would get much better than a 7th from KC.

Which I’m pretty sure is against the code for these guys to decide for themselves what’s best for them and their livelihoods. Can’t imagine Brady ever saying anything like that.

That didn't look like a full-tilt 30 seconds; looked like he was going through the motions.

Looked like he was focusing on form, not speed. If he’s doing football workouts then he’s clearly considering a return. Not sure how they work it but I would love to see him return.

If gronk comes back and had to go through waivers Arizona can claim him and get nothing when he reretires, or trade him to the patriots for something.
It’s doable, and the chiefs have nothing to do with it unless you think gronk will agreevyo play for them which I find as a zero chance.

Shaq is a great comparison. I think Gronk put more effort in the whole season than Shaq was known for early season. But still. Physically, it's a great comparison.

If Gronk comes back and needs to pass through waivers, it means the trade deadline has already passed, so they can't trade him anyway.

Good catch.

What are the odds that Gronk has used PED's post retirement to help heal many of his injuries, or at least make them bearable??

If so he will have to go through the same rigmarole that Ben Watson went through, a 4 game suspension. Now that he has latched on to CBD his scrutiny may even be more intense than normal.

That with his weight loss, probably will make all of this a pipe dream or maybe make the standard of a wet one...

I love winning. But I’m hoping 87 stays retired. He’s given what he could and has helped this team win. Last season was amazing. You have this alpha who’s been putting up numbers who accepted a lesser role (stats-wise) in order for the team to win. Then, on several occasions when Brady needed a play, he came up huge. Champ.

Stay away, Gronk. Maximize your $ off the field. You'll always be welcomed back in the area with open arms.

Brady needs Gronk.

Even when Gronk is covered, he goes up and takes the ball away with his great hands and strength.
