Belichick is at his best in his work with the bottom of the roster. There are so many, many transactions through the season.

For me, the strange thing about the current situation is that the entire bottom of the roster is on OFFENSE.

Olszewski
Cunningham
Ferentz
Izzo
LeCosse
Kessler
Johnson

I might have included Newhouse and Eluemunor. However, I think that they are reasonable backups at OT and OG.

I don't include rookies who don't have many reps because of the depth chart:
Harris
Meyers
Williams
Cowart

Indeed, he signed Jordan Richards just to make working the bottom of the roster more challenging! :D

Came for the Jordan Richards joke. Leaving satisfied.

Yes, but the related silver lining is that including Watson, the Patriots have 4 upgrades on offense that are waiting in the wings.

Wynn, Harry, Watson—and who’s the 4th one that you’re counting? Harris?

I suspect Jordan Richards has been signed solely for special teams play, it is that "three phases" thing.. do not expect to see him in the D backfield.

Is he even good at ST? Seems like he just flat out sucks at everything...

The secondary might be the deepest position on the team right now. The last time Richards was here, it may have been one of the thinnest. I don't expect to see him on D unless we have just a comical (in the darkest sense) string of injuries, including to people we call up from the PS. Williams has barely even played yet, Brooks is already the 4th safety, and I'm guessing Melifonwu would be called up to play defensive snaps before Richards would if we got that desperate.

The people freaking out about the Richards signing just have PTSD.

And LB was even thinner, which was why Richards opened 2017 as a big nickle, which may have been what motivated his selection in the first place.

True on both accounts.

Melifonwu has athleticism and I believe he’s being stashed away on the PS for development. Expect him to stay there, barring an emergency.

He’d have to clear waivers, right? I don’t see him leaving the PS. A team like the Raiders could use him.

Melifonwu already cleared waivers before.

The next three games are gimmes. After that it's the Browns at home, not a pushover, but a game we should win even with a compromised offense.

After that, Harry is eligible to return in time for Baltimore, and Wynn is eligible to return in time for Philly.

So long as we enter December healthy like 2018, the team will be fine. The only way offensive injuries will derail this season is if we have a repeat of 2015 and one entire unit of the team is wiped out.
