The Patriots have receiver problems

and every year, we win the division, go to the AFC title game and/or Super Bowl

And every following year that is irrelevant to the question of whether or not the team needs to fix something in the new season. When will you people finally learn the lessons of the past?

What the homers like to ignore (often) is that two things can be true at the same time:

  1. There can be a problem
  2. The team can be good enough to overcome that problem, to one degree or another, either by changes during the season or by simply finding a way to overcome.

This isn't about winning 5-7 games. This isn't about making the playoffs. For the BB/TB era, it's about winning the SB. And, to win the SB, you want to do the very best to minimize problems and maximize strengths, and that does not mean sticking your fingers in your ears, closing your eyes, and saying "But last year!".

BB understands that. It's about time that the homers wrapped their brains around that obvious truth.

Yes, BB understands that problems need to be solved every season, and in every game.
====
You say that we have problems, even if we expect to overcome them. Then the issue is semantics. The patriots are very. very likely to be able to deal with any such problems. They do every year. This year, there are issues on offense and ST's that we should expect to be dealt with by the time of bye.
====
And yes, I have a different view of the SB than you do. First, we try to win the division. Second, we try to be as healthy and as ready as we can for the playoff run. The team plays one game at a time, always, and especially in the playoffs and SB.
===
You can choose to say the team is a failure every time we lose a Super Bowl. You can choose to say that the team has a failing season if it didn't win the Super Bowl. Others take different views.

And, yes, you can support every post that sees any weakness and focuses on those weaknesses.
==========
So, sure, there are weaknesses. This is always the case. And with all our terrible, severe, weaknesses, we are one of the two best teams in the NFL, are the team most likely to win the Super Bowl.
=====
And, just BTW, I did post a pretty long list of our current issues, just a couple of days ago.

The issue isn't semantics. The issue is the homers trying to shut down even the most appropriate discussions about the team's issues, time after time after time. There are plenty of instances where the Eeyores take things way too far (See Gostkowksi), but there are plenty of instances where the homers are just being asshats.

A problem being overcome doesn't mean that a problem didn't exist.

Then you have WR haters like patfranken posting here about WRs being overrated divas and all lineman being scholar blue collar bring your lunch pale to work patriots players!

I have no idea about what Ken's been posting around here. I haven't seen his posts in a long time.

The state of the offense is no doubt fragile, if Edelman or Gordon, White or Michele gets injured and miss games we could be in serious trouble.

Ah, you must be lost. PatsNeutralObservers.com is down the hall on the right.........:p

OK, I'll spend a post directly on the topic of us having a receiver problem.

To put this some perspective, the OL has had two changes at starter and change in their primary backup.

We have a top 3 defense. Is our passing game good enough to be top 10 by the time we are in the playoffs? We need that to fulfill our normal season of being in the AFC championship.

QB
We still have one of the best.

WR's
I think that we have a very reasonable set of WR's.
#1 Edelman (injured, and being used less)
#2 Dorsett (playing very well)
#3 Gordon (OK for a #3 WR)
#4 Meyers/Harry (OK for a rookie and a #4 that rarely produces much)

Obviously, BB is always looking to upgrade. How much should he spend to make Meyers inactive?

TE
#1 Watson (should be back in the next 3 weeks)
#2 LeCosse (still injured)
#3 Izzo (very poor excuse indeed, and yes, we need a replacement blocker)

receiving RB
#1 White
#2 Burkhead
I suppose that some teams have 3, but these two are very effective.

MY BOTTOM LINE
The receiver position is NOT a terrible weakness with
Edelman, Dorsett, Gordon, Watson, White and Burkhead as our receivers.

Meyers might even be a decent backup by the playoffs.

And yes, if we lose yet another receiver to injury, it will hurt the team.

Vikings aren't trading Diggs per reports. Will need to hope Gordon & Edelman heal up. Roll with White, Burkehead, Edelman, Gordon, and Dorsett. The receivers we see now is likely the group throughout the season.

If this were Jeopardy, the question would be: Who is Walter Brown?

Walter Brown was indeed great.

As great as he was, one has to take into account the relative positions of 50's/60's NBA versus 21st century NFL. The NBA was a quaint 6 team league back in the 50's and 60's. It was really a minor league in those days like MSL.

I'd actually put Walter right up there with Kraft. 1950's Boston was not an "enlightened" place. He hired a Jew to coach his team, approved drafting the first black NBA player (Red went to him and asked permission and was told "I don't care if he's black, white, purple or green"). Walter Brown had real class and decency. His 1951-1964 Bruins sucked though.

.

But I'll answer your post above: Greatest Owner in American Sports History.

I don’t know...Kraft’s owning skills have been stellar, but other owners have also been good at owning too.

and every year, we win the division, go to the AFC title game and/or Super Bowl.
Often-times in spite of much of Bill's drafting that year, not because of it.

but when people start calling others stupid or at least insinuating it, which is what the poster above did,

Nay, not stupid. Overcome by emotional attachment to a singular skillset...likely. Fixated on flash over substance....probably. Obfuscated by the allure of the statistical fallacy that WR expenditure as a significant portion of the cap builds better teams...absolutely.

And he got AB cheap(er)...hence the "saw the need" as a final piece at the end of the major procurement season. Don't disagree of the THEN, but the reality NOW is there isn't the flexibility to go get another one of that price range/skill like the hot AJ Green rumor because the salary cap does exist in this dojo.
