Patriots place Ghost on IR

As I mentioned in the other thread, if Gost is taking 100% of the kicking reps in practice (which be honest, who else would be taking them), then he's a Full Participant and doesn't need to be listed on anything.

It has been mentioned that the injury which place him on IR is believed to have happened in game. These are paid professionals. If they aren't listed on the injury report they are presumed healthy enough. Yes not every scrape or bruise is listed, but that's football. I'm not trying to tell you Gost was absolutely 100% cause I don't know. Nor does anyone outside of the organization.

I'm telling you if it was serious to a degree where it effected him drastically he should have been on the injury report or listed as probable or questionable. The fact they never even considered the possibility of sitting him at any point means they believed he was healthy enough to do the job.

Yeah it boggles my mind that he is excellent on FGs and average on PATs this year...

Given that we now know that it really was a hip injury I wouldn't even say that he was good at FGs and bad at XPs. It might have just randomly flared up one time over the other based on miniscule differences in his motion. There is just not enough evidence of making this XP vs. FGs.

There were no problems with his kickoffs in terms of consistency at all. Which is an entirely different skill and motion.

I remember in 2010 when Gost went on IR and Shayne Graham came in he did everything he was asked and was a great addition to the team with a 94.6% completion rate, hoping we can get the most of out of his replacement this year as well

There have been rumors about a hip issue where he chose not to have surgery already weeks ago. I certainly read 2-3 posts like that on this board early in September.

The forums golden boy. Now they have an excuse for why there boy has sucked

Id love to see them go for two after every touchdown this week.

Ghost was bad this year for sure, but Patriots fans below a certain age have no concept of just how bad kicking can get. You can't assume that some random unsigned scrub kicker who is unemployed in October is going to be better. Kickers can always be worse.

then we just make sure that whoever they bring in doesn't wear #9 ... 1, 5 & 6 should be available

I understand people wanting to apologize for Gostkowski's bad performance with an injury. No doubt being banged up didn't help him. I'm sure he was more banged up than usual with the hip he was dealing with. That being the case if you are listed to go without being on the injury report (meaning they never even considered you being unable to play) then you need to do the job you're paid to do. OR you should have been listed on the report.

Just my 2 cents.

Also considering his history of missing what should be fairly routine kicks since 2015 i think that needs to be viewed within the context of this year. It isn't like he has been great till this year and suddenly these issues popped up. If that was the case I would be singing a much different tune.

If the ”Ghost has sucked for years” people are going to claim today proves them right all along then they will have to say that “Cliff” Kellerman was right all along once Brady is finally done.

Because their “reasoning” is no different than Kellerman’s.

Scott "Missing" Sisson comes to mind.

Tony Franklin isn't walking thru that door

Again, that's ridiculous. Players play with injuries all the time, and those injuries can obviously hamper performance. Anyone who's ever played sports understands that.

This actually sheds some more light on the Richards signing as well. Chances are, whoever we bring in off the street isn't going to boom touchbacks at the same rate Gost did. We're going to need better kick coverage than we've been getting, and as much as people hate him, that is something he has experience doing well in the past.

I scrolled through specifically to see if someone offered this comment. :)

I don't think so. I simply think it was a guy who was trying to play through an injury. It's not like he missed everything. The guy made 7 of 8 FG attempts and the one he missed was from 48 yds.

Eventually, instead of getting better, it got worse (the hip, not the kicking) Probably he wasn't able to swing through the ball properly and consistently which caused some of the misses. The fact Schecter says he's going to have surgery means he isn't coming back.

Sh!t I go to the Gym and what I said early about kickers getting injured too comes true. This isn't good, but we have 3 more weeks before we hit the iron of our schedule and thus 3 more weeks to find the right guy.
