Suggestion: Trade for Manny Sanders

Sanders would be a nice guy to have, I remember when he left Pitt we were trying to get him. He is a good player to have.

right now the biggest concern is the o-line, they need to okay better, sure we have few backups in there but they can do better.
this is going to be a long week for the locker room because they have many things to fix, especially the offensive side of the ball.

Who would that be ? Because the only TEs on the Patriots payroll are Watson, LaCosse and Izzo (and maybe whoever is on the PS).

Retired players are not on the payroll.

Watson. Unless I missed something, he should be a nice upgrade from our currently playing TEs and Brady worked with him all camp on establishing rapport. So it's like a brand new TE that's already on the payroll.

Broncos 0-4 and going nowhere. BB, call John Elway and trade for Emmanuel Sanders. Make this happen. He's 'AB Lite' and provides the obvious spark and quick to get open ability the offense needs.

From a Cap standpoint, the Patriots can't do this. Sanders has $7.76M remaining in salary this year and is in the final year of his deal. I'm not familiar enough with the semantics of the cap to figure out how his 1.1M in guaranteed money figures into this either.

This is a far cry from last year's line. 2/5's of last year's line is not there. The current 'not ideal' LT is a career turnstyle acting as a 'placeholder' for a player who is out at minimum half the year who so far hasn't shown he can stay on the field at the most important position on the line.

Can't 'imagine' why there's issues

Except a lot of the pressure came from up the middle, where Karras, Thuney and Mason play.

There is no room under the salary cap to add anything beyond a minimum salary player and only 1 or 2 of them. It’s that tight and the means to create space is limited as well.

A minimal amount of cap space will be created when players come off the suspended, PUP and IR lists but it will only amount to a million or so.

If Gronk should come out of retirement today, the Patriots would have to cut him as they don’t have nor could create the cap space for 3/4 ths of his salary and roster bonuses.

It’s that tight.

Let's get a new tight end! Maybe one who has a history and rapport with Brady and has been resting for the past four weeks? Preferably one already on payroll so he can fit under the cap.
Who is that? Gronk? He is NOT already on the payroll.

Sorry I read so much Gronk stuff in other threads that my mind was too primed with it to see the obvious. Mea Culpa..

Can a player file and submit reinstatement papers without the team having to sign anything ?

Can we have a rule in place where anyone advocating for a trade has to at least explain how to fit said player under the cap ?

I mean it requires half a minute to check contracts and cap space on spotrac. Is that already too much effort ?

If you come up with a reasonable way to clear up 75% of his 10.2M salary then go ahead.

Can’t afford a bag of Doritos

We gambled and lost when we signed a certain WR (I shall not name) and now we have to deal with the CAP consequences.

The consequences will really be felt next offseason when we can't keep some of the pieces that are making this defense so strong. KVN, Collins..

Ha... I don't go near those, so I don't realize how many people just assume every conversation about TEs is about Gronk. I should have been clearer. I don't think Watson will be Gronk level, but if he can help block some, maybe the run game gets a little better and if he can catch, he takes some pressure off of Gordon and Jules. It just seems like he's the best guy walking into that locker room for the next couple of weeks.

The Patriots will be getting cap relief from the whole Brown situation since they won't have paid out the signing bonus.

Also, it's unlikely that 4.75M is going to do squat to keep them from Re-signing KVN or Collins.

Huge need for another WR and Tackle. Ideally Harry and Wynn when they come back but that can take a while and there's Devellin as well.

The way I see if we loose another top player with possibility to come back they should stash him in the 53 roster.

Well Brown wasn't a luxury at all, BB took that risk because he knew a guy who gets open quickly would help a lot this patchwork of a Oline.

Also I couldn't help but notice that Edelman seems like a step below his usual self, a lot of mileage on that body.

Asking or hoping a 38 year old can Block effectively yikes.

Any means necessary.
It won't be cheap for compensation at least a third.
Would love AJ Green but Sanders would be cheaper.

So are you saying go all in this season and screw 2020 - 2022?

Because that's what " cap is crap " really means. Pushing the bill down the road until eventually you have to pay the overdue invoice.

AB has possibly cost the Patriots part of 2020 cap space. Let's not wish for more.

If Wyn, Devlin and Harry are all healthy in a month or so I'd want to see Wyn and Devlin back to help solidify the O'line.

How is that 'except' when center is one of the two changes? The LT portion of the comment was in direct rebuttal. Thuney is finding himself in the unenviable position of having weak links on both sides of him

We had the money for a good wr, and we used to pay AB..
We can't afford now aj green, sanders or other top/good wr
We don't have that kind of money now, and I don't know how to get it actually, can we extend someone?
