Gunner needs to sit a game

Forgive my candor, but if you think 13 returns is worthy of "there you have it", your grasp of statistics needs a serious upgrade.

Did you happen to watch the preseason, by any chance? Did you notice when Gunner was noticeably more decisive and athletic than the guy most assumed would take the position? Or perhaps see his 9 returns for 122 yards, which is a tidy 13.5 average, made even more impressive by the fact that it wasn't inflated by a single long return? Did you notice that he took such a firm grip on the position that Berrios didn't even have a return the last couple games?

Granted, it's the preseason, but when exactly is a rookie supposed to have made the biggest impression? Am I supposed to conclude after just three games that none of the skill he displayed for the prior two months is legitimate? Frankly, his biggest mistake - other than the fumble, of course - is trying to do too much with return that aren't really there..... which, coincidentally enough, is the primary driver of the low average you amusingly attribute to athleticism.

It seems our battle lines are drawn, now let's see how Gunner's season plays out. :)

Game on! (But I hope you win.)

I do not think he needs to sit. I do however, think people on this forum see him through rose-colored glasses. He is averaging 6.8 yards a return and has been going backward since week 1.

If you watched the games this season you had to see that type of mistake coming. Gunner fielding punts that he should be fair catching in congested areas, it was just a matter of time.

It was a meaningless score this time, but just imagine the last AFCCG if they didn't reverse the challenge on Edelman's muff-that-wasn't.
If they didn't reverse it then KC would have gotten the ball one play before they got it.

I don't see him lasting the entire season but he should not sit.

This “Terry Glenn is a Cowgirl” guy seems like a wild character.

Any old timers have a recollection they can offer? Must’ve been before my time here.
BigSkyFly on Patriots Planet.

40 disagrees and counting on a single post. That’s quite the accomplishment.

Gunner is nothing more than a jag. He contributes nothing on offense, has only hurt the team as a punt returner with a fumble resulting in a td and either fair catching or returning punts right back up the middle into 4 tacklers to the tune of a paltry 6.8 yards/return (good for 15th of 24 guys qualified). He's played a total of 8 snaps on offense and only 54% of snaps on special teams.

He isn't good. People just liked his story.

It's not that Gunner ain't good he just needs to fair catch some of those punts he'll have plenty of opportunities with that D. That said if he keeps up that gung ho attitude on ever punt he'll have mush for brains before we know it.

There once was a guy named Julian, who people wondered why he was taking up a roster spot. After all, we had an guy named Wes who did what Julian could do, only much better.

I see Gunnar, the same way I saw that guy named Julian.

You see Gunner as the best PR in the NFL? Now that is a special type of vision!

Patience Grasshopper, it's only been 3 games. Let's get a larger sample, Like 10 +.

Gilmore needs to go - what a horrible signing
What the heck was Belichick thinking when he signed Van Noy?
Amendola is a bust - waste of a roster spot ...........................................

The list goes on and on and it looks like we've added Michel and Gunner to the list this year after 3 whole games in which the team has dominated as much as any team in memory. Amazing.

OK yeah, that's ridiculous. I just want to give him a clean break from the worst game of his short career, make sure he doesn't bring any baggage from that to the next game he plays.

Make him some comfort food.

ALL IAN'S RED X'S ARE BELONG TO YOU!!!

Regards,
Chris

Is that the same Juilian who stepped in for an injured Welker in his second game as a rookie and had over 100 receiving yards, and averaged 10.5 yards per punt return that season?

It’s laughable to compare the skills Edelman had in 2009 to Gunner’s skills in 2019. Edelman was clearly a good punt returner breaking everyone’s ankles. Has Gunner made a single defender miss yet?
