WTF..
Are you not innocent until proven guilty in the US

Yes, and he was afforded every opportunity by the NFL and the New England Patriots. No action was taken by either. All he had to do was let the legal process run its course. But no, he couldn’t do that. He had to send more insulting texts like some 13 year old and that was that.

tf is this ****. It's an insult to the height of douchedom that is Goodell to include any of those other pretenders to the crown of the greatest NEP villain.
Nah, Ben Dreith belongs right up there. He caused the Pats first SB win to be delayed by ~26 years.

You are.

What does that have to do with a private employer choosing to part ways with an employee?
Especially when you’re hurting the brand of the employer.

So how does this work? Do we owe him money? What's the salary cap implication?

Can anyone definitely answer these boring questions? Or are all the articles out there just musings about how a great talent went to waste due to madness and stupidity?

I have no idea, I was making a joke. It's being "reported" the Patriots will not pay his 5m "guaranteed" payment. Whether any of it is cap relief is a question for Miguel or similar.

A grievance probably will be filed. But for now I'm of the simple personal opinion that possession is the better position. I seem to recall getting AH's guaranteed money back was difficult but keeping the money not actually paid was easier. My memory may be wrong on that but that is my sense of what happened with AH.

I'm not insensitive to the Ben Dreith BS but it was one call in a single game not a multi year pogrom of draft pick removal of our beloved team because of a tiff over camera placement and ignoring science.

Or let me put it this way - if I told you that you could get 2 free 1st round draft picks if you let a ref call RTP would you? Of course you would.

There's no question that Goodell has inflicted more undue pain on this franchise than anyone.

The most interesting thing to me in all this is that there's all the proof in the world that he was like this with the Steelers and it was kept well under wraps. I'm not saying it's a league conspiracy at all, but rather that the Steelers have way more interest in protecting their scumbags than most teams; KC excluded.

Still...CTE...that's the name of the game in all this. Said it when he was a Steeler, said it when he was a Raider, a Pat, and now. He needs professional medical help.

It was a dumb thing AB did. Ruben Foster had the same fate. 9ers asked him to cut off commutation with that crazy woman, yet the team found out she was at the team hotel. I still think these “intimidating” texts were a cop out for the Pats as it was getting too hot in the kitchen for them.
Whether they're intimidating or not isn't the point. That's for the Gaslight Express to talk about for the next month or so.

The point is, he texted this person, after they told him not to, and even if they didn't directly, it was spelled out in his contract.

He got one chance. He blew it. He got cut. You know, exactly like what so many people said would happen if it didn't work out.

It sure seems like this is spot on. Just let your well paid legal team handle the off field stuff, play the game on the field, stay away from putting anything on record that will embarrass, or worse, yourself, the team and the league. The big deal of making big business and big brands look bad was in play.
Did Drew R ever say to him "the Patriots are in a tough PR spot here. For them and you to weather this PR storm you've got to be careful with everything you text, type or say on video"? If he didn't say it he should have as he knows the league and the game, and had to know the Patriots were skating on thin PR ice with AB, with any added media event likely to cause the ice to break.

Now that he's gone? damn! I'll really miss the AB threads. :)

can we move on already from this fraudster? Lord.

I agree! I don't even understand why people are talking about a walking tabloid of a person who while an undeniable all-time great has also cryochambered the soles of his feet into roast beef, threatened to beat up his cracker of a GM, possibly sexually assaulted 1 woman, was probably inappropriate with a 2nd, farted in a doctor's face, didn't pay working people for the work they did and then tried to IM his PIs to sic them on women who were threatening his livlihood.

It's SOOOO boring, who knows why anyone would think this would be interesting.

This is why I genuinely think the guy is sick. Any slightly sane human being would see which way the wind was blowing and would keep their head the fuck down after having dodged a buncha bullets and still be signed to play with the greatest QB of all time under the coaching of the greatest coach of all time and signed to a contract that affords them the chance to wear the uniform of the greatest team of all time.

The simple fact that the guy couldn't disappear from the limelight and let things shake out for a mere THIRTEEN days speaks to a significant problem.

Um....yes she was. Once her story got out, SI smelled blood and released the piece about the painting incident. That caused him to go after the artist. The media was already all over the Pats regarding Brittany Taylor.

Pay attention.
SI's piece didn't cause Antonio Brown to send threatening texts. Antonio Brown being a scumbag caused him to send that text. Sure, the media isn't spotless in their treatment of Brown and other public figures. But to say they "caused" the behavior of people is irresponsible.

This is on Brown and he is paying the consequence for his behavior.

If it isn't mental illness that caused his behavior, then maybe severe narcissism? Brown may have thought that he was above being held accountable for sexual assault because he was amazing at catching footballs.

The text didn’t make a threat to her or her kids.
There was nothing in the texts that he could be charged with.

Agreed. There’s no case in either the rape allegations or these texts. No NFL rules or laws have been broken. BB probably determined that the guy doesn’t deserve $15m with incentives for the media attention and headache. This is why the Pats released him 2 days his guaranteed kicked in. I think Pats will take him back but only if he works for a LOT less as well agrees to even tighter leash.

Well, thanks AB for helping bump Tom Brady's record of throwing a TD to yet another receiver.
Ha! Was thinking the same thing. Did Tom break that record? Or does Vinny still hold it?

Yes, and probably for Pats. This time at vet min.
Someone agreed with this comment? You seriously think that all 3 of these things will happen:

1) Brown will play in the NFL this year
2) Belichick will put everyone through this...again
3) Brown will agree to play for the vet minimum
