I was relieved when AB was released today. I think we have more than enough weapons and personally I would like to see guys like Dorsett, Harry and Meyers get the touches instead. They are the future, not some nutjob on the tail end of his career.

Dorsett has been getting better every game and he is so reliable, I’d love to see him get some more action. He is becoming one of my favorite players, he’s almost Amendola like in his ability to come up with clutch catches. He seems like a good guy too.

I’m dying to see what the youngsters Harry and Meyers can do, I think they both have some amazing potential and I think with the vets picking up most of the workload they’ll be allowed to develop without being held back and without being under pressure to immediately produce.

Sure AB was a HOFer but I think we have enough with Edelman, Gordon and Dorsett and then sprinkle in whatever the young guys can contribute. All AB would have done is ******ed the development of younger guys who are part of the present and more importantly the future.

I’m glad he’s gone. And I know some will say I’m just being overly optimistic but even when we got him I was a little sad thinking of the touches that would be lost by guys like Dorsett who frankly deserve it more.

As a whole, just looking forward to seeing the team work with the set of guys they’ve been expecting to run with for camp and going into the season.

Edelman is Edelman, Dorsett has continued to develop and taken a leap, and Meyers thus far looks like he can contribute. Gordon was obviously an uncertainty in terms of his return, but there was already building blocks there from last year that can/have been carried into this year.

Not that adding AB meant entirely neglecting things they’ve been working towards..but it did mean taking a pause to certain elements of the offense that were viewed differently at the conclusion of preseason vs. when AB was added to the team.

Hopefully developing some predictability in terms of personnel will let this offense continue to gel as a unit, and continue to progress as the year goes on.

Yes and no.

I am glad AB the person is gone because by all accounts and purposes, AB is a moron and, if the allegations are true, a terrible human being.

I am not happy about AB the player leaving. I love Dorsett, I've showered Dorsett with praises. I have decent expectations for both Harry and Meyers. It is extremely unlikely that even one of the three touches 50% of what AB has done on the football field in the past six years. AB has been neck and neck with Julio Jones (and in the past two years, DeAndre Hopkins) for being the best WR in the NFL. It'd be a miracle for either Dorsett or Meyers to reach that status, and I don't really think N'Keal can reach that ceiling either.

I suppose the overall benefits out-weight the bad. AB was probably going to become a massive distraction to the team and cutting him is the best outcome for the Patriots.

AB > Dorsett.

Dorsett = WAYYYYY more fun to root for than AB.

We're a weaker team on the field but sometime around the start of the past week this began to be the scenario I liked the most. I'd rather lose with Dorsett than win with that nutjob.

I didn't want AB before the sexual mishaps. I thought he lost his mind when he was threatening to retire over a helmet and just giving the raiders a hard time in general.

More than anything, I really just wanted to see what Meyers and Gunner could do. It is rare for rookie wrs to do anything positive but they looked like they were going to buck that trend only to be placed on the back burner for a guy wearing the dreaded #17. I joke around quite a bit, but seriously I knew that number meant the AB experiment was going to be a failure.

Yeah, I personally think the Pats do better without a diva receiver. However, I worry that Gordon will fall off the wagon and am not confident the this receiving corp can take them to a 7th ring. It worked last year because of Gronk.

I don't think Gronk was the difference. It was Edelman playing at a Goat level in the postseason and the defense going from pretty good to instantly elite.

Hogan and Patterson were what they were. Meyers and Harry could legit surprise. They drafted Harry because they thought they needed and him and I think that will come to fruition. Dorsett looks a lot better than last year. I think both of the rookies will be needed and make plays for us in the 2nd half of the year.

Considering this was a 1 year thing anyway then whatever. Hope Harry or Meyers can step up.

Would've been nice to see the full potential of the AB,Gordon,Edelman lineup.

No ... I definitely wanted to see AB in this offense.
However I root for the uniform so I'm glad we have both of them to grow with.

While I have always maintained that they can’t count on Josh Gordon I am far more confident in him now than I was before the game in Miami. He was the player who really lost targets because of Brown, and his performance at the podium after the game was that of a player who has really grown up. I feel like that’s going to continue, and I’m really rooting for him.

Let say that we are "obliged"

:D

IF the WR corps stays healthy they will be absolutely fine. I love their balanced group out there. Two things the AB loss changes:

1. It hurts more not having a dual threaten TE. Their receivers are very good but not so dominant that they don’t need to disguise run/pass plays. With AB they had that potential.

2. Makes Gordon’s availability absolutely enormous. If he becomes ineligible, the domino effect is bad. Everyone else has to take on more responsibility they may not be capable of.

I didn't want them to sign AB, but that was because I thought DT was ready to shine and I didn't want AB to mess up the locker room. Once I saw AB play, I had visions of 19-0 with the biggest obstacle to that (besides the laws of probability when there are so many things that could go wrong) being the offensive line. The loss of AB doesn't change that. It's still a great receiver corps, and the teams ability to block consistently is probably what is going to determine their level of success.

To return to the OP's question, I'm not happy. Mostly, I feel angry at AB for being such a ****ty human.

Really good post here....Dorsett Meyers and Harry are decent receivers.....but Brown is a legendary wide receiver. Unfortunately he’s also a legendary ahole and even if he isn’t guilty of these charges ....he continues to do stupid things that distract or disrupt a football team. That having been said, ALL his teammates seemed to love having the guy there and he was motivated to play and practice...AND the Patriots offense is definitely much more powerful and dangerous with Brown on the field , than Dorsett and Meyers combined out there....the guy is an amazing talent and OC spend hours trying to figure out how to stop the guy....so we will definitely miss that....I think the Boston media’s relentless witch trial going on the entire time he was here really expedited his release....would have at least liked to have seen it play out and let him have his day in a fair court....

Hopefully he doesn’t end up on KC or Baltimore once cleared.....GO PATS!

Gunner is a scrappy high motor guy who is a Swiss Army knife and can do a lot of things fairly well...at best he could one day be a semi replacement for Edelman....expecting him to become top tier wide receiver is probably not very realistic....hope for the best for Gunner because he’s a tough, “all-in” kid!

You are right here....if we lose Gordon for any reason the entire dynamics of WR obviously changes....Harry is on IR for half the season then will need to step right back in fast and be productive....Edelman is Edelman but worry about his health and durability at this point....

No, I'd prefer to see Antonio Brown catching touchdowns and making it near impossible to play man and and cover everyone on third downs...
Feel same way! Guy has a lot of issues and it’s not in teams best interest (especially with media adding fuel to fire every second) to let these accusations play out....but the guy is a legendary WR and still in prime and could have seriously helped our O....shame....someone (probably one of top AFC teams) will pick him up asap....

Harry can’t “step up” until week 9-10...teams will key on Gordon and try to slow down or interrupt Edelman (which ain’t easy) and make Dorsett and Meyers beat them....that will be the challenge
