How does the 2019 team NOW compare to the 2007 team?

2015 is the cautionary tale. That team was absolutely stacked. There was chatter about 16-0 and I believe they were up there with 2007’s offense according to advanced stats like DVOA, until Lewis, Edelman, Blount, Solder, Develin, and Hightower got injured to various degrees, greatly effecting the team. Injuries can really play a huge factor. They started 10-0 and scored 27+ points games 1-9, and then the wheels started to wobble. The 2014 and 2016 teams were magnificent, but I think 2015 was better if it weren’t for the injuries...that was arguably their best team on paper of the 2010s.

I like 2019 more than 2015. While I liked the defense in 2015, I love the defense this year.

Nope they beat the first two teams 76-28....hence 2007 Offense more explosive and 2019 Defense better. Both teams were beneficiaries of 2 TDs by defense/STs.

It can get deeper, such as how fast the offense scored, how little time the defense had between drives, number of possessions for the offense, quality of opponent etc. But keeping it simple and factually speaking it proves my point.

So if the 2007 and 2019 teams both scored 76 points, and both featured 2 defense/ST TDs how is the 2007 offense more explosive? Also worth mentioning that you should probably tack on 2 missed XP to the 2019, as under 2007 rules they wouldn't have been missed.

2007 had a much, Much better OL than we have now...right up to the SB That Must Not Be Named (starting with Steven Neal's early 2nd-quarter injury).

It was devastating.

Ok, beyond the competition level that they faced, the 07 Chargers were much better than either team this years team has faced. But to dig into the numbers a bit:

2007 2019
Possessions 17 20
Non-Scoring Drives 6 8
Turnovers 2 1
Punts 2 6

I wouldn't give up on the offense continuing to put up historic numbers. Brown came in for one game and took away a bunch of targets from Gordon, who I suspect will be much more involved now. The team should really take off offensively once Harry returns from IR.

Well, this didn’t age well..

I would still expect around 30 PPG just not 35-37

I think this team can still go 16-0. A lot depends on Harry though. When he comes back how good is he?

While I like their offensive weapons without Brown they really need a tad more to make me confident 16-0 is back on the table. As well as health.

Watson at TE with White/Burkhead catching passes along with a core lead by Edelman Gordon Harry and Dorsett would be pretty good.

I think think Harry can have a really strong 2nd half and playoff run. He looked ready to play instantly at this level to me.

We'll see...people can laugh all they want, but weren't we talking this team could have one of the greatest offenses in team history before AB was acquired? Still plenty of talent at WR and RB.

A lot depends on the health of Cannon and Wynn...luckily they got injured during the softer part of our schedule.

I'm not sure. Before Gordon was reinstated I thought 27 per game and lots of running game. After that I thought 30 and we would be a complete team.

Though we’ll never know how good Dumbass Brown would of been here, I will say, I didn’t like the look of the offense last week compared to the previous. No doubt it would of gotten electric with Brown being that was his first game. But there is something special about being unpredictable which is something Brady has been king at.

There goes my undefeated season.

Curious to see how they run on Sunday with OL issues, weak TE and Devlin out.

Polar opposites. 07 had more offensive firepower and 19 more defensive.

Only comparison I’m interested in is making the playoffs and having a different result in the last game of the season than they did in 07.
