How can we create cap space right now?

What's better? Awesome receivers with little time to throw? Or good receivers with time to throw?

I'd give up a second and maybe more while pushing some of his cap hit into next season. I think our window is closing and I want number 7.

If the team were to suspend and fine him now, then we might be able to void the contract. However, the team has had time to re-think and will pay his signing bonus on Monday. I suspect the time is now or never.

However, BB is not likely to do that. The patriots will get several weeks of play out of AB this year, even there is a suspension. So, he is part of our 2019 success. Also, keeping AB under contract keeps him away from other teams, especially KC.

can we cut AB if he goes on the exempt and get the cap room back? Is there something along the lines in his contract?

We need to see details. When AB was with OAK, there were steps taken to void the onctract, beyond simply releasing him. At very least, there should have been a letter to AB that he had engaged unbecoming and in violation of team standards.

For now... I'm guessing they will be able to void most of that. We shall see.

Not this year. The credit will come next year or maybe even later depending on how vague the language in his deal was.

Is that your speculation or is it known? I assume there is language in his contract that would allow them to void most of the “guaranteed” money if he continued this type of behavior. Or maybe not.

The $4M bonus will also count against us until there is a decision.

It is how it works. There will be a grievance, it will take time to figure out even if the language is totally obvious.

I am not sure if the Pats got credit for all of the Hernandez money yet they went after with a similar language.

EDIT:

Just saw Corry essentially write the same thing:

I’m not disagreeing, but they had an obvious reason to put a clear clause in Brown’s contract above and beyond a standard contract. Maybe I’m just being hopeful.

so in theory we could get it back but it will take time...

This clause is in every contract. Maybe his was more broad in terms of social media than some older contracts but all in all thats just standard procedure. Especially the language about there not being anything that could hinder him from playing.

Even Hernandez had that language in his.

They will eventually get a cap credit next year. Doubtful it will take longer than that.

So, it would probably be really safe to push a lot of money into next year for someone else, knowing it won't be a huge burden then because the team will have a big credit. It would essentially be a short-term cap loan, knowing the return is coming. Do I have that right?

Ideally yes, but it’s a more complicated than that sometimes. The Patriots still haven’t been credited for all of the money that they withheld from Hernandez.

Simple...wait for the eventual hammer to fall on Clowntonio.
Well that took quicker than even I thought.

I still hope that the gold-digger(s) won't receive a dime, but I don't wish him good luck in the future either...good riddance, and a pox on all their houses.

Let that be a lesson to you Bill...though you should've learned that lesson from the Fat Albert & OchoStinko fiascos anyway.
