Here's the guarantee forfeiture clause of Brown's contract with the Pats. I am not a lawyer but it seems super, super broad.

But the thing is the text messaging to an opposing party, not even for Brown, could not have been expected?. IMHO without this messaging there's a really good chance it blows over. Nobody was going to be asking for him to be jailed and key thrown away because an appropriately placed towel. And the other lawsuit, at face value, seemed full of holes. He just had to play football and let his high priced attorneys deal with the rest. Again I think this would have blown over. Shocking even for him to have done this utterly incredibly massively shockingly stupid move that is the reason he is an ex-Patriot.
As far as short? yep you're right. I would have rather kept DT too but the numbers game was wrong to keep DT. For me, in a moment of I told you so:) , the lack of addressing TE goes back to the draft thread. But with that said, Patriots aren't stuck in the mud by a mile. This is still a good O and a good D.....just less so without AB and the potential that DT could have brought.
Maybe.
But he did something much, much worse.
He told BB he wouldn't, and he did.
Toast!!

Pats will go to Super Bowl easy

I wouldn’t say easily. Right now their main competition is KC. They have money if they want to acquire some more defensive help. Baltimore is still an unknown. What we need to hope for is for Gordon to stay sober and maybe a guy like Meredith if he’s healthy can be another big bodied wideout after gordon for us.

Does that mean $9 million cap space is back??????

.

Pats will go to Super Bowl easy

Seems you are very sure..
I have nothing contrary but probably this is not the right exact moment for this sentence :D

Even if the cap savings goes to next year, they can guarantee money to balance that back.

Comments:

a.) At the end of the day, it was a good move to sign Brown. We took a free agent out of the pool and now returned him to the pool sullied. Anyone who picks him now will face intense media scrutiny and for that reason I don't expect AB to sign anywhere at least until his civil suit is resolved.

b.) I liked seeing Brown play in Miami...great football IQ...evident on the field.

c.) If a guy can't just STFU and play....it was never going to work out here no matter what. BB benched Welker for making foot related jokes.
Agree. Reality is he is sooooo dumb I can't believe it. He was a Patriot if he just did not send that text.

And honestly, looking at the actual text, I do think it was kind of alarming, even a little menacing.. and "menacing" someone is a thing in law by the way too.

He's an idiot. The text messages were indefensible. The rest you could make a case for.

Did he hit all of his incentives?

EXACTLY!!! People in this goddamn thread are acting like the Patriots gained something by subtraction here, and we are absolutely worse for this move.

Every single fan forum of teams in the AFC are breathing a collective sigh of relief right now, knowing that they actually have a chance to beat us without that guy. Just checked the stage 4 terminal cancer known as Chiefs Planet and they are climaxing right now. I cannot believe the Pats just gave what everyone wanted. We damned sure didn't cut Brady for Deflategate or fire Bill for Spygate, and this has just about the same amount of evidence as those did-- NOT A SHRED.

No conviction. No ruling. No exemption list. But we jut let go of a generational player because of a text message. This isn't Ray Rice. We don't have evidence for what's being claimed. But because he sent a text message we release him? I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing what's going on here.

Well said....brown to the chiefs next I bet...

N'Keal Harry says hello.

.

I honestly feel he has been wronged
That was possibly true right up until the latest round of texts. But given that he did send those texts, there's just no way I can reach any other conclusion than "he clearly ****ed himself over"

I think bad things will continue to happen to teams who face the Patriots.

Got caught with a bunch of weed in Costa Rica or whatever while on vacation with his family a couple summers ago. No big deal and obviously the team didn't care, but there was a solid contingent of Pats Fans Dot Com Posters (TM) not only calling for him to be cut, but claiming he would be locked up in federal prison for decades.

In general, they do not care about MJ et al. except to the extent that it makes them unavailable for games.

If they really did care, they could have cut Kevin Faulk, because you could make a very good argument his suspension for weed led to Brady's torn ACL.

They should be able to get all but two weeks of game checks back, but it won't be credited until next year

I mean dorsett is gonna have to step up now. Hopefully Gordon as well . I know what we are gonna get from julien Edelman. Our defense will keep us in games but the passing game has to be sharp.
You are right… Obviously the offense with brown in there is much more high powered and effective… Even if he’s a diversion on many plays… Offensive coordinator still had to game plan for the guy… I don’t think we’re gonna be worrying as much about Dorsett and Meyers in all honesty

If AB kept his mouth shut, he wins, the civil case is BS at best.
