Antonio Brown

In professional sports, there are no teams for you to follow, then.

Yeah, there are seriously flawed players on every team. The issue is more about what's put in my face, on my radar, overtly, while I watch. It isn't a toggle switch, it's about the brand of the player in the moment as they show up on my TV screen. For example, at this point, Gordon is about redemption, forgiveness, commitment, tribal support, and more. Brown is about bullying behavior and self importance. Those are the current associations.

So unless any new developments come to light Brown is in the clear. So far he’s kept his mouth shut. This could work..
The more significant allegations, including the alleged rape, happened in Florida. We haven't heard anything regarding those allegations from the DA, so in my opinion this doesn't mean much.

I find myself reacting differently than you are. The contrast between my excitement for Gordon to do well, and lack of it for Brown, is stark. I don't root for players and teams that remind me of the destructive, narcissistic aspects of human behavior and society. I deal with that enough in my work life, and follow sports teams to get away from all that. So, when a guy like Brown is wearing a Pats uniform, it interferes with compartmentalization of sports in my brain.

That's fair. I'm just more willing/able to separate football from real life. I root for anyone wearing a patriots jersey to help us win football games.

I can see where you're coming from though. I just can't really relate too much. Someone would have to be a really really sick individual for me to not be able to root for them even when they are on my team.

I think if you look around or if you knew more about every NFL player I'd be willing to bet most of these guys aren't the greatest guys in the world. We don't watch them because they are great guys though. We watch them because we want to see them play football. Or at least, that's why I watch them.

Brown isn't going to be put on any list for a civil suit and he isn't going to be put on any list for being a jack wagon. Reporters keep saying Goodell could, and yes I get it he has the power. However, unless something else comes up, it is a he said she said civil suit which the NFL wants nothing to do with. Brown will keep playing and this will all slowly die out.

you can never assume or predict what Rodger goodell will do. the latest developments don't change anything.

Well, no offense, but that's a "you" problem, not a "them" problem. You make the final decision on how to associate a person. What the media, or anyone else, would have you do is only as relevant as you choose to allow it to be.

I'm not going out to dinner with Antonio Brown. I'm watching him play a sport. I don't care about his non-sports life any more than I care whether or not the random guy who's fixing my car is nice to his father and pays his taxes.

You can typically assume he’s going to do the wrong thing. Granted they’ve handled Chung and Gordon correctly recently.

Oh, no offense taken. I totally own it. And, in that sense, I want Brown to just go away. I'm excited as heck about a WR group of Edelman, Gordon, 2 Rookies, and that guy from Indy who somehow barely keeps avoiding getting cut but catches everything thrown at him.

I like watching good football........AB provides that......dude is awesome

I've just finished Jeff Howe's well written and LONG article over at the Athletic. To make that long story short, here's the thing. There IS language in the CBA and precedence to put AB on the exempt list if he THINKS there is a possibility that the charges are true. Doesn't matter if its not a criminal case. It doesn't matter if there is conflicting evidence. He doesn't even have to say he believes the charges are true. He can put him on the exempt list merely on the PRESUMPTION that something happened (sound familiar), and keep him there until the case is resolved in court.

If this is the case, then I can't see a way AB remains on the field past Sunday....at best. Usually the league wants to make these kinds of decisions before the first practice of the week, so there is a possibility he plays this week.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Nobody knows what Goodell will do. Everybody on here thought Gordon wouldn't be eligible to start the season but he was. Goodell might not do a thing and nobody should be surprised.

Which means he's overdue for a colossal blunder.

Curran, on WEEI:

"If these were criminal charges, he wouldn't be here."

Also, 2 of the claims are outside the statute of limitations, according to the police and prosecutors, which means that there can only be a criminal proceeding on that 3rd claim (the rape claim).

So, there it is.

Edit: There seems to be confusion about which charges are out of the SOL. I'm now hearing reports that it's only 1 charge, not 2, that have been found to be in that situation. Whichever it may be, the rest of the post doesn't change.

Ok.... from Fowler:

Antonio Brown update: Allegheny County District Attorney has contacted Britney Taylor's attorney over the June 2017 allegation in the federal lawsuit, but two-year statue of limitation applies. Source said the DA likely made contact with intention to investigate.

And from Rapoport:

From NFL Now: #Patriots WR Antonio Brown is currently eligible to play football again, while two of the alleged incidents have a statuTe of limitations and won't be criminally investigated. pic.twitter.com/fvyCe26atM

Sources: The Allegheny County DA & PD reached out to the lawyer for Antonio Brown’s accuser Britney Taylor regarding the 1st and 2nd alleged incidents. The DA confirmed this to NFL Network via @HollowClay. There is a statue of limitations with both Allegheny Co incidents however.

Couldn't Brown still be charged somehow? Especially since she says one incident occured in May 2018. That isn't two years.

the rape allegation is the biggie...obviously

It doesn't, but he shouldn't be rewarded for ****ting on people in general and for being a cancer to society.

I don't think he's a cancer to society. This is our society in 2019.

If they got evidence from her or really felt she was believable, wouldn't we have heard something by now?
