Monitoring Wynn injury situation (Placed on IR)

Not this again. Why do you people insist on putting forth this gripe every year? Every year, it gets explained, yet you all refuse to simply accept basic English when it comes to this. If a guy gets hurt a lot, he's injury prone. And, then, if a guy stops getting hurt, he's no longer prone to injury.

Injury prone is definitional. it means frequently injured. So, yes, the reality of life is that, if a player is frequently injured, he is, by definition, injury prone.

”You people?” Racist.

If Cannon can come back in a couple of weeks we will be ok. We don’t know when cannon will be back. Just need to help out on that left side . It’s gonna take some games for these guys to adjust to what scar wants from them. Just make sure you block. All it takes is one big hit to the QB.☹️

Cannon might be back as early as this week.

The two projected IR spots of guys to return is starting to get interesting. If we’re assuming it’s Wynn and Harry currently in those two slots, it starts to get dicey if there’s another soonish injury with a rough timeline of 8-9 weeks for recovery.

Would hate to see Harry not see the field his rookie year, but the combo of another key piece being IR’d and the depth at WR might make that a possibility. Probably isn’t worth the trouble taking the time to go through the roster one by one to decide what players might take precedent in the event of this scenario, but do very much hope that’s not a conversation that will come to fruition.

I disagree. Injury prone means liable to be injured. Being frequently injured is good evidence for proneness to injury, but injury-proneness is a disposition, not a historical fact.

I start to have nightmares due to our OL situation...:(

Let hope he will be back from week 12...o_O

Just make it happen, Dante.

The issue is that the WR situation is very much up in the air.

Brown could end up on the exempt list making him unlikely to ever play again for NE. Gordon is simply unreliable.

Leaves you with Dorsett, Edelman, Meyers as safe options. In this case we will certainly need Harry.

No Garrett is very very good, and he's not dirty. Both calls never would have been made in the first 99 years of the NFL, and they shouldn't have been called last night either. Unless they expect defensive players to levitate after they knock people to the ground, this will keep on happening.

I agree that those roughing the passer calls would not have been made maybe 5 years ago even but now they are part of the rulebook and you have to follow it. Trying to talk them away by saying how silly the rules are is not a particularly sensible approach. The league decided to protect their passers like babies and that is the way it is now. End. Of. Story.

He is also definitely not a dirty player, but I hope a bigger fine is coming his way for the two calls that were exactly the same infraction. He didn't even try to adjust at all the second time around to stay within the rules but still kept all his weight on the QB.

That is where you just carry those players on the 53 and have to either make up the hole with multiple players on the roster or start reshuffling your verge players.

If Wynn's turf toe happened in W11+ that's what would happen to him. There is no reason not to use the IR-return route as soon as possible just in terms of roster management.

No, that past injuries are not indicative of future injuries unless he has a degenerative condition in some part of his body. That he injured his tendon and then his toe doesn't indicate he is more likely to be injured in future (unless it can be blamed on bad technique - which is not an argument anyone has made so far.)
Correct. We do not know if there is a direct correlation nor do we know what his future health will be- as I said in my OP.

What we do know is he is having big-time trouble staying on the field

Sorry, but this is an incorrect statement. What we KNOW is that he's suffered 2 different injuries in consecutive seasons. One was a TORN ACHILLES. The other was an unknown injury to his foot that is rumored to be Turf Toe. Both happened while engaged with other players, if I remember correctly about the Achilles injury. The foot injury sure looked like he was engaged and that his foot got stepped on by an opposing player..

It's not like they were non-contact injuries.. Outside forces were involved and crappy luck. That's significantly different than someone being "unable to stay healthy" since that implies that there is something physically wrong with their body instead of crappy accidents..
Why are posters carving out and disagreeing with the second part of my post by basically cut-n-pasting what I said in the first part of my OP?

So it's innacurate to say Wynn is having trouble staying healthy? Really?

The Pats will get through this - Scar and Brady make average linemen look better because of Scar's blocking schemes and Brady's 2-second get-it-out. Cannon will be back soon, by all reports, and they'll patch together a good enough line to get through this stretch.

The bigger annoyance for me is regarding Wynn. He looks amazing at LT. To come back as he did and stonewall as he did against Pittsburgh on an NFL level for the first time makes me think that HE could be the prototype to defeat the power/speed edge rushers that have been dominating the game since Von Miller carried the Broncos to the Superbowl.

I know I'm projecting and prognosticating and turning a small sample size into a hall-of-fame career WAY TOO prematurely, but suffice it to say that I was as excited about watching Wynn on my re-watch day as I've ever been about a lineman. The way Miller redefined DE, Wynn could redefine OT.

I hope he can shake this bad luck. If he can stay healthy, people might be talking about him the way we talk about guys like John Hannah.

EDIT: PS. Reading about turf toe, it's like a high ankle sprain or a hamstring, in that unless it heals fully, it can linger for a long, long time. I think the Pats did right in IR'ing Wynn, much as it breaks my heart.

Mitchell tore his ACL multiple times.
Gronkowski's back issues? He sustained a back injury in college that required surgery.
Gurley? Again, multiple knee injuries and possibly a lack of cartilege in his knee.
Davis? Multiple knee injuries.
Percy Harvin? You mean the guy who spent 8 years in the league and retired due to severe migraines?

Seriously. You're throwing things at the wall to see if anyone will agree with you. The reality is that every single one of "examples" is completely unrelated to the issues that Wynn is having.
In 2 NFL seasons Wynn has been placed on injured reserve due to an injury to the same foot.

I’m “seriously” don’t give a rats ass if anyone agrees with me. If you believe we can rely on Wynn to be our franchise left tackle that’s your opinion but I am going to need him to string together more than 5 quarters of football in 2 seasons before I share that opinion.

I like your comment, but please don't forget a player in Brady's circle of trust. Dorsett.

The Pats have made 5 first rd picks since 2013, (a year after the double home run of Hightower and (sob) Chandler Jones).

During that time, only Marlon Brown has avoided the dreaded “injury prone” or “healthy adverse” for you more PC people, label.

Easley was a walking injury coming out of college and was cut after 2 years on IR.

Brown only missed a game or two, his fifth year option was not picked up.

Michel has been great, but has missed significant amounts of time.
Wynn has played 1 game in a season and a half and Harry has yet to see the field and will miss at least until week 9.
