Bring in competition at Kicker.

If the holder is part of the problem, maybe they should be getting Stidham some reps in there. No reason why the holder has to be the punter. Hasn't always been the case.

The might also consider putting a kicker on the PS. Having a kid in there at practice everyday may make more sense than a cattle-call of one-day tryouts.

If people think that SG might get his feeling hurt b/c he's got some competition, then he needs to choose another profession.
That is true, but I think it's not being done simply because of the practice time. You can't be in 2 places at the same time. While Cardonna Bailey and Gotskowski get hundreds of reps each week working on their operation, Stidham is doing other things. Having a part time holder probably isn't the best idea either.

Not to mention we have no idea if Stidham would even be better at it. I don't know off hand if he did it in college or any level before, and starting over with a new holder now isn't going to solve the problem any faster. My money is on Bailey (who is also a rookie) getting better at holding as the season goes on, rather than someone who hasn't been doing it all preseason suddenly stepping in and being the Deus Ex Machina.

The Bears kicker is money. Where did he come from? I kid. Steve will be just fine.

Robbie Gould is 5-7 kicking FGs this year.

Basically, what happened is that Gostkowski went into absolute god mode for about three years, and now many fans see that as the baseline for a kicker.
Exactly. This right here. This is exactly the problem.

Give Gunner a shot at holding. Bailey seems terrible and is not getting any better. Gunner doesn't need to work with WRs this year anyway.

This reminds me of one of my co-workers. I live a couple hours outside of Houston and we're both big Astros fans. He's insanely unrealistic when it comes to expectations, and outside of Verlander, Cole and Ryan Pressley, every, single pitcher at some point this season "has got to go." Every last one of them. Even Greinke. And he still says this after the trade deadline. So when I ask him who will start instead or what reliever can we call up that'll do better, it's always, "I don't know, but he's got to go."

No doubt Gostkowski needs to do better, he'll tell you that, as will every player on the team if asked about himself. But I feel some are getting close to a "anyone else would be better than Gostkowski" mentality which is simply not true.

Thank you. Once again, the pink hat crew come out in droves and cant handle that a kicker that was kicking at pretty much "all time great" levels (and could return) is now just a "solid" kicker.

Such a spoiled, myopic fan base. Its sickening.
Slow your roll there pal. It's tiresome to be called a pink hat and "sickening" just because I don't agree with you. If you think three missed kicks in a game is okay, more power to ya. I bet BB, for one, would disagree with you.

Who are we replacing him with?
It's true. There isn't anybody better out there. We'll just have to hope the Adventures in Kicking improve (it honestly looked like it last week).

I thought Gostkowski’s stats were skewed because he only misses them in the biggest games. This doesn’t mesh with the narrative.

Reports are his wife is encouraging him to hold and kick to get this fixed.

To me, Ghost's kicking the past few years is anxiety inducing but probably statistically really good. When he was great, his kicks went straight and looked pure. Last few years, he seems to have developed a "slice," and an occasional compensatory hook. However, while the kicks don't look as pretty, overall he gets the job done. He made the pressure filled clinching SB kick.

Ghost and his misses will eventually cost us games, it’s time we bring in competition and maybe that will light a fire under him to perform better.
I don’t think it’s worth it to bring any competition in at this point, the time for that was camp. But he has stunk, as much as multiple posters believe it is sacrilege to bring up.

Because it would show the ignorance of your over-reaction.

Bad hold on the FG.
Bad hold on the 2nd XP miss.

Gostkowski has always had issues in Miami.

But yes. Let's say F'in and throw him away just to please your ignorance.
Oh, are you an expert on holding technique? It is always the holders fault I’ve noticed. Never Gostkowski.

I swear he could shank an XP or short kick to lose a Super Bowl and people would still rush in to claim it is the holders fault, Gostkowski has great stats, the offense shouldn’t have let it get to that point etc etc.

Gost last few years ranking

FGM % XP %
19 5
5 5
18 16
5 2
2 1
6 1
20 1
14 . 1
30 . 1
16 . 1

2019
5th....2nd worst

My point: People have the perception Gost has been perfect. He has not. Is not. Never will be.

Everyone else is allowed competition except our kicker. It’s too late now, but during training camp. I’ve had this discussion before, they seem to think Ghost is to fragile for competition, it’ll hurt his ego. He’s a good kicker, no one better out there available, but what’s wrong giving him some competition during training camp. Our punters had to kick it out.

It's a waste of a needed roster spot. Gost at his worst is better than most of the league
