Bring in competition at Kicker.

Damn you have every excuse in the book lined up for him. What the hell does playing in Miami have to do with making a kick?
you mean besides the heat and the fact that field conditions in Miami are usually horrible due to incompetent ground crew?

So besides 2 of the most important possible considerations for a kicker used to cold weather and well tended grass?

Nothing at all.

Do who are fine with then if not the 89% playoff kicker ?

Me, at least until you can find me a 100% playoff kicker to replace him with.

Good luck with that by the way.

Ton of teams out there that would kill for an 89% kicker, I'll tell ya that for free.

Just for the record:

Over the course of his Patriots career,, Adam Vinateiri completed... 82% of his career regular season field goals.

That 89% is looking a bit better isn't it?

Ghost and his misses will eventually cost us games, it’s time we bring in competition and maybe that will light a fire under him to perform better.

I take it you haven't seen our defense. Perhaps you threw your remote through the tv after Ghost missed the FG?

Currently the defense has scored more points than it has allowed :D

I agree that we are in danger of Gost costing us games (I was for competition in camp). I am also forced to admit that despite his unreliability in spots, there isn't anyone better out there. I actually thought he was getting better as game 4 of the preseason looked good, as did last week. Yesterday was a return to the horrors of Miami, a repeat of 3 missed kicks last year. Let's hope it was just a blip. And for all the haters out there of those of us who think Gost has ventured into the "unreliable" category, Gost himself said he stunk yesterday.

We have been spoiled with having Adam and Ghost all these years. Ask that same question to teams that had good licker and then let them go, only to go through 4 or 5 new kickers to get back where they started from. The Jets and the Bears come to mind right off,

Who are we replacing him with?

I see the entitled fanbase is back at full swing. Funny how the actual haters call the reasonable ones "haters". Only thing funnier is the next sentence where you blatantly show the incapability to grasp the difference between bad games now and then and being "unreliable".

I guess kicking 89% in playoffs counts as unreliable for some here. But then again I am not surprised that some don't understand statistics and how if you are a 85% (or 90% or even 95%) kicker you will miss some.

Especially when the entire operation is off due to a new holder who takes too long to get the ball in place.

Either way there should be a rule in place that you can't make a new "we need a new kicker" thread without actually providing a specific realistic name to replace him. Because that is what it boils down to with every player... who is the upgrade ?

Prior to yesterday, you could ask Tom Brady the same question about playing in Miami. ;)

Basically, what happened is that Gostkowski went into absolute god mode for about three years, and now many fans see that as the baseline for a kicker.

What excuses ?

It is a fact that Bailey was late on at least the last XP. Just rewatch the kick and focus on the holder.

Similarly, Fouts even touted the stat the Ghost's average kick rate takes an average dive of 10-15% when in Miami.

Thank you. Once again, the pink hat crew come out in droves and cant handle that a kicker that was kicking at pretty much "all time great" levels (and could return) is now just a "solid" kicker.

Such a spoiled, myopic fan base. Its sickening.

They have no idea what a "good kicker" is.

Once all of this is over they deserve 3-4 years of league average kicking just to understand what a bad or unreliable kicker looks like. Reason has left the station a long time ago and anything but perfection is not accepted.

Yep
They will stop following the team and never appreciate anything when TB/BB are gone etc. The former standard is always the baseline with this group.

I am both shocked and disappointed that almost half the commentators thought we should bring in competition for Gotskowski. I had always taken pride in the fact that most Pats fans are both rabid AND knowledgeable, and that went double for posters at THIS site.

Yesterday I first saw the term "ENtitled Town" in reference to Boston fans. I really shouldn't be surprised give all the success we've seen here over the last 2 decades. It has truly been a rare season when all FOUR of the area's teams aren't at least in the playoffs. But this call for a new kicker shows just how "entitled" our fan base has become. Kickers miss kicks! Get over it.

But WTF is going through your minds if you think after 2 games that we need to "bring in competition" at the kicking position. That's like saying, bring in a new QB after Brady throws a pick. What is wrong with you people! What is it about an 87% success rate over a 14 year career don't you get????? Not to mention the EIGHTY NINE % success rate in the playoffs. And he did it playing MOST of his games outdoors in the northeast.

Maybe it's because I can remember when having a FG kicker who made better than 50% of his kicks was a blessing. But even in this age of specialists over 75% is amazing. Gotskowski is at 80% this year (4 of 5) with his one miss at 48 yds. Since WHEN has a 48 yder become a gimme?

Be careful what you wish for. Never has this old adage had more meaning to a fan base.

God Bless the Internetz..........

If the holder is part of the problem, maybe they should be getting Stidham some reps in there. No reason why the holder has to be the punter. Hasn't always been the case.

The might also consider putting a kicker on the PS. Having a kid in there at practice everyday may make more sense than a cattle-call of one-day tryouts.

If people think that SG might get his feeling hurt b/c he's got some competition, then he needs to choose another profession.
