Jacoby Brissett: 14 TD - 3 Int through 5 games (updated)

Jacoby was shutout by the Bills "in the Patriots' system."

When Brady came back, the team ripped through the league and won the Super Bowl.

Only Brady could win "in this system."

I'm the biggest Brady homer of all time (sharing the title with almost everyone in New England), but that is a terrible argument. Jacoby was playing with a broken hand and couldn't even throw the ball. In the three games before that he and Garoppolo lit it up before getting injured. If anything it's an argument against Brady. That being said, it's not because there are no (valid) arguments against Brady.

Oh I love Stidham. I just know Chicken Little logic on here (that I've been guilty of before, myself), often leads to complaining about moves in retrospect more than the average fan base.

It looks good with Stidham and I hope we can focus on that rather than what Jacoby is doing. All the best to him.

You’re manufacturing stuff. People like Brissett and appreciate him being a good soldier here and stepping into a tough situation his rookie year with poise and class. He’s having some success in Indy now stepping into another situation.

Your bizarre posting about it somehow being a threat to Tom Brady’s situation/legacy is, frankly, wasting people’s time.

So now suggesting Jimmy G. and Jacoby weren't Brady's heir is considered inappropriate? After hearing that we let Jimmy get away for years, I'm not sure it is in poor taste to suggest we shouldn't interpret Jacoby's sudden success as us making a mistake. If he continues to do well, there will be many who come out saying we should have kept him and you know this as well.

We don't need to ball wash for former Patriots.
There is nothing wrong with rooting for guys that worked hard and represented the Patriots well while here, guys that people connected with.

Seeing their deserved success on other teams brings a certain level of joy to some Patriot fans.

If you're not in this group:
A. I feel sorry for your lack of empathy.
B. Nobody is ball washing anyone so cut it with that BS.
C. Your feelings on the matter will not impede anyone from being positive about former Patriots doing well.

I like Jacoby and wished him well. I don't care to have debates where we have regrets over letting him go. That happened with Jimmy and I hope it doesn't happen with Jacoby.

I stand by not wanting to be a ball washer for former Patriots still in the league. We can respect them, but we don't need to sing their praises every day. They are professionals working for a competitor. Respect them, but don't bend the knee.

Jacoby is like the only exception as a Colt I’d ever root for to do well. Glad to see he is off to a good start.

You’re sounding a bit ultra orthodox.

I'm saying that we should respect former Patriots and give them occasional shout outs. However, talking too much about the greatness of former Patriots rather than the Patriots isn't the point of fandom. For example, I hope Jimmy succeeds as a 49er, but I don't want to focus on him on a regular basis. He isn't here; our guys are.

That's all I've been trying to say. By "ball washing," I'm talking about excessive praise and flattery. We can say, Jimmy and Jacoby are playing well. But that's it. I'm simply not a fan of whole threads on former players that inevitably lead to "the one who got away" nostalgia.

How about you stop dictating to other people how they should feel about certain players? If you want to write a list of your rules, please post them all here so we can know whether or not we are heretics.

I hate to say this, but I am beginning to get a bit more sympathy to what Bruins29 was saying......

Earlier this week, I was told by multiple posters that I wasn't a fan because I didn't want the Patriots to keep Antonio Brown. I was told that I should leave the site for having that view and to keep quiet if I didn't share in the group think. Most of my posts got laughs instead of people having a friendly debate.

I used to have a positive view towards just letting what will be, be. I ignored the rude remarks and general culture of bullying on here. However, at this point after being insulted for the whole week and called a clown for having a serious opinion, I don't care if I am upsetting people by taking unpopular stances.

Most people who act like bullies wilt when confronted back. I guess pushing back, though, makes you the bad guy.

No matter. You are reasonable and fair on this board and probably I was too provocative in my attempt to throw the attitude back. I'm sorry if any of that came off as directed at you, as I didn't mean for it to be.

I was joking. People frequently make the reverse argument (by the way, I have no idea how getting shutout is an argument against Brady).

As a humorous aside, this is the first time I've been called ultra orthodox on here. After being called a non fan this week for my stance on Antonio Brown, to be called too much of a hardliner for being dedicated is rather unexpected.

I don’t like AB either. But you may want to re-read your recent posts. There’s an annoying lecture-like quality to them directing how we should all think.

You’re inviting stuff with that.

Liked Jacoby and wish him well and that’s saying a lot considering he works for a douchebag organization.

Of course I liked Woodhead and McGinnist, Seymour and countless others who left. It’s part of the game.

Don’t need constant Reminders of the two qbs that were here. First off, there’s this thing called the internet which covers all 32 teams, apps, news, tv etc. I’m aware when do well or terrible, believe me.

Every thread about them reads like a candle light vigil ending with some snarky reminder that BB is going to regret letting them go. Or at least they are hoping too. It’s kind of a weird group of posters actually.

How did this turn into a Tom Brady fan insecurity contest?

He was playing with torn thumb ligaments that day. But yeah, if you’re gonna go out on a limb and have a hawt tayk, sure Brissett ain’t no Brady. He’s still a good kid who has a good future .

I was joking. We've been hearing for years that the Patriots went 3-1 without Brady, the system means any jamoke, like Brisset and Cassel, can go .750 for the Patriots.

Once again, almost everyone here is positively happy about Philip Dorset. Don’t worry.

Relax. I have yet to meet or read any poster here claiming that the Pats were winning any SBs that year if Brady has stayed away the whole time.

My Gawd - Brady insecurity complex is not healthy. Just because people are happy for Brissett finding some sort of at least temporary success in the NFL isn’t a threat to Toms legacy. It’s gonna be ok. Really.

You're right. Perhaps that started with me, perhaps it started when I kept being insulted and doubled down. At first I wanted to disagree, but I will look to figure out ways to be more open-minded.

I actually agree with the essence of this. Frankly, I've never understood the Brissett fanboy worship that began during his decidedly mediocre Patriots tenure and endures years after the fact. He's now with a much-despised AFC rival and people here want him to do well? What did he really do to earn that? Very little as far as I can determine. BB traded him for good reason -- not only because the Pats needed WR help, but also because Brissett failed to earn a roster spot. He was very expendable.

As for anyone pulling for him to "do well" yet also wishing for the Colts to lose -- that simply is a contradiction in terms.

It’s all good.

I haven't posted a thing about Jimmy all year and from what I've read, Jacoby hasn't been mentioned here for over half a year, possibly more. So chill out with giving some kudos to a good kid who was well liked here and doing a good job in a tough situation.
