It's sad to see the Welker hate. The dude was tough as nails and put up huge numbers for us. Yeah, he dropped the pass in SB46 and it's one of the enduring images I have as well, but among the other things I think about is him getting blown up and hanging on to some tough catches.

As for Edelman or Cooks or what not; each do some things better than the others. Cooks has phenomenal speed and puts up some big numbers. But when it comes to who Bill would rather have on the team, considering what each bring and at what cost, he went with Edelman. I don't disagree.

* not that it was a choice between the two...

JE is much tougher than Cooks is, IMO. Much more willing to receive contact in order to catch a ball and/or gain a first down.

The receiver position is about much more than just catching ball; there’s blocking to consider, which Edelman does much better than Cooks.

Cooks has more raw talent in terms of speed and explosiveness, and he’s a great pure receiver. But I’m not sure he’s the more complete football player.
Thats great and true but not what we were discussing.

Nobody is going out on a limb claiming JE is a better all around football player than Cooks. JE plays inside/outside/ST/Defense.
Really?????

Wes Welker caught 112 balls one year with a 77.2% catch rate

JE never broke 70% in any year.

That's true but numbers don't quite tell the full story on that comparison do they? Welker had other WR's taking more than a bit of the heat off. Not diminishing how great Welker was here but let's be honest, in that 77.2% year the other WR's of serious consequence on the team were Moss, Stallworth and Gaffney. In Edelman's best catch % year (69.5% in 2013) there was a somewhat effective Amendola who missed 4 games and no other WR's of consequence.

Patriots Wide Receivers with the highest catch % since 2001:

1. Phillip Dorsett 73.3%
2. Wes Welker 72.9%
3. Danny Amendola 70.3%
4. Troy Brown 66.7%
5. Julian Edelman 66.3%

How did a thread about Antonio Brown turn into a debate between Edelman and Welker?

Lawyers tend to say a lot of things that aren't always true and spin things.........Polygraphs are unreliable which is why they are NOT admissible in court and if you have the right medications on board, you can trick a polygraph.....
It also depends on the person administering the test and the questions asked...

Drugs That Affect a Lie Detector Test | Livestrong.com

I don't anticipate ever taking one, but I've always thought I'd do horribly with lie detector tests. As soon as critical questions would come up, I know I'd just be anxious thinking, omg what if I get anxious and the detector picks it up and thinks I'm lying... which would in itself set off the lie detector.

Because in the pantheon of homers the only group worse than the AV homers are the JE homers. They are special

Just be happy we aren’t discussing squirting in this thread.

Those DPI Cooks drew were underrated. Fun player, but easy to see why we didn’t pay him. Seems like a great guy too.

Ummm... source for those Edelman #'s? You may want to look at them again cause somebody is making you look bad. Try profootballreference, you know, the go to bible for stats. Edelman has had better years than the 66.3% you have listed in FIVE separate seasons. None of that changes my point that having other talent taking some of the heat off is a big plus but it certainly doesn't help your argument to post unsourced and incorrect numbers. I'm not disparaging Welker or praising Edelman at his expense just posting some context.

The rest of your post is right except Welker was not super clutch in the playoffs.

Welker: 75.9% catch % in the playoffs
Edelman: 65.7% catch % in the playoffs

Welker: 26 catches on 32 targets in the SB
Edelman: 24 catches on 37 targets in the SB

So, outside of one catch opportunity, on a play for which most of this board blamed Brady at first, where are you coming up with this theory?

Whats wrong with his numbers? I diddnt want to do all that work?

He was? He caught most balls thrown his way.

How about you posted a career high % for Edelman that he not only bested 5 times but never posted, not even once. So please enlighten us as to the source so none of us will ever use it

I posted that JE never had a catch percentage over 70% in any year. How is that wrong?

Fans biased by one play.
Two. You guys are sleeping on the 2012 AFCCG where the Pats came out gaining back momentum moving the ball into Ravens territory until Welker dropped another catchable 3rd down pass. Pats had to punt and the crowd groaned if I recall correctly. Ravens took over after that.

Not surprising considering how many people think Edelman is better than Welker.
How many clutch catches in the playoffs and Super Bowl from Edelman will it take to change your mind? Welker may put up better stats, but in crunch time it’s not even close. I’ll take Edelman. His efforts have helped them win 3 Super Bowls. Welker 0.

I knew a guy who failed one taking it for a police test.
He said they asked have you ever beaten a child and he thought of being up His little brother when they were kids. Then they asked if he ever had sex with an animal and he thought “well that one girl was like wild animal sex”.
