Gronkowski: I had at least 20 concussions

Gronk is so sure he fixed his CTE that he is ready to donate his brain to science right now to prove it.

20 is probably pretty accurate. Heck I played football in HS and College and probably went into that part of my life already having a few as a kid on my bike (nobody wore a helmet in late 70s early 80s) I can remember at least twice being knocked out on homemade ramps and another one from skiing.

That said I can recall "coming to" in a college game as RB and whispering to my Fullback at the time to ask what the play was and just hoping I wasnt getting the ball again. Also remember getting up and walking the wrong way toward the other teams huddle (got some laughs in film review Monday) until a lineman grabbed my arm and directed me the correct way. We were taught to lower our head on both sides of the ball its amazing I didnt get more. My poor college grades are suddenly making more sense :). Overall I would say I had at least 6 or 7.

As a coach now and having a son playing any sign of a concussion and he would be done for the season. I really feel for some of those guys like Seau and Webster who have been estimated to have had 100s or even into the 1000's pretty scary to think about really.

If what he's saying is true I'm honestly happy he left when he did. It's just not worth it to continually put yourself through that over and over again. He has nothing left to prove. All time great tight end, future HOFer, and multiple time champion.

I doubt 20 is even a high number for Nfl players. I had 2 I’m sure of when I played and basically it was like you were drunk for a few hours. Now some definitely are more severe than that and others are more mild, so to think gronk had a little over one a year through high school college and the nfl seems very reasonable.

He really shouldn’t come back, but think he ultimately will. 20 concussions is crazy.

I’d agree with others and venture a guess that up to half happened before the NFL level of football.

With that said, I know of one that was reported, and that was the play against the Browns when he had his knee blown out.

Anyone else a little squeamish to the idea that a guy who barely ever came off the field when healthy, probably played through 5-10-15 concussions?

I know being a fan today takes a certain level of self induced ignorance, but this story made me really uncomfortable.

God I love this man!

Perfect example of where you have to protect tough, stubborn athletes from themselves. Gronk is the type of player that refuses to quit and will sacrifice his body above and beyond the call of duty just to get the job done..

So much respect for that man and the joy that he brought so many of us fans, while having as much fun as humanly possible in the process!

Only 20? pff... 1 more and 7 more rings BABY! /jk :D Miss this guy, but something tells me that he will comeback playing for us one more time. Just a "weird" feeling. o_O

Gronk, luv ya more then TB, take care. We need a statue of him for loyalty, courage and entertainment.
Rob Gronkowski: I've had probably 20 concussions in my life

The article ends with:

Where exactly did Gronk say all 20 of the concussions he experienced happened while playing professional football? Several of them may have occurred while in college or while in high school.
Does he ski or own a dirt bike?

(Not minimizing the hazards of playing in the NFL)
1 concussion is too many.

Well, another that was reported was the one before Super Bowl 52, after the Jaguars laid him out in the AFCCG. That was certainly on the injury report, and he missed practice time. It still wasn't 100% that he would play leading up to the game.
