Minkah Fitzpatrick available...if the price is right

Giving up 32 for Fitzpatrick wouldn't be dumb imo.
If he wants a trade to play the position he wants to play because he's comfy at that one position, what are you trading for?

From what I read on reddit, the impression I got with M. Fitzpatrick was that they may have overloaded him with like 5-6 different -roles- on defense immediately... he's been covering slot, CB, FS, SS, and some LB roles.

If redditor comments are anything to go by (big if), his strengths are being misused at SS, where he's being primarily used, instead of letting him be more FS/CB. (And I got the impression he really didn't like SS.)

In other words, it sounds like they're trying to use him as Pat Chung instead of Devin McCourty.

Everyone is available at the right price, but the right price that it would take for them to ship us here is simply not worth it.

"For now, Fitzpatrick wants to go somewhere where he can play slot corner, ideally for a team that’s going to win more than three games this season, and he’d like to go there soon."

I'm not opposed D-Mac is probably gone after this year and both he and Chung are long in the tooth...what's not to like about a 22year old??

Supposedly unhappy last year as well. Wasn't exactly keeping quiet but apparently things are just that bad there.

Sure but there was maybe an extra layer of disingenuousness that maybe sent me over the edge. Maybe.

We must have a different definition of disingenuousness.

he doesn't want to play SS and LB.

Nothing screams Patriots like a player who complains about playing multiple roles for a Belichick-tree coach. Promising player at Alabama, but they hid a lot of his deficiencies, which are now more regularly exposed. I'd rather keep our secondary as it is.

We have been fortunate but Safety is not a very easy position to find. Like WR you can find a good one from time to time or a lot of flame outs. I know we are set at all the CB Positions but the Back-end or Safety Position might have questions after this season.

I don’t know what it would take, just throwing that out there. Perhaps if BB loves him he would be willing to give up their 1st rounder next year. He surely knows all of his strength and warts, given his familiarity with Alabama players. Trades within the division usually cost more, as we all know. They would need to draft or sign their next starting SS this offseason, so it’s definitely worth considering, IMO. He also has some positional versatility, a well known BB favorite trait, although it sounds like Flores has gone a little bit overboard in this regard and may have overwhelmed a young player trying to learn a new system.

Why would BB trade for a player that is having problems with his defacto DC from last year?

2018 NFL All-Rookie Team, defense: Who'll win DROY?

Not a prototypical "island" cornerback along the lines of Ward and Alexander, Fitzpatrick is a new-school corner capable of excelling in the slot and at safety while moonlighting outside the numbers. With the exception of his schooling at the hands of Raiders veteran Jordy Nelson in late September, Fitzpatrick has been one of Miami's most valuable defenders. He's allowing a minuscule passer rating of 49.6 from the slot, per PFF, beating out the Broncos' Chris Harris(57.3), the Texans' Kareem Jackson (68.3), the Chargers' Desmond King (69.0) and the Bears' Bryce Callahan (78.9).

Didn't we just sign our slot corner to a new contract? I mean maybe if you were looking at him taking over for D McCourty next year as a safety.

but what is the right price?

Miami is a absolute dumpster fire and will probably win two games this year because the Jets will find a way to blow those games.

My gut instinct is to worry about the patriots trading for a guy who says he is struggling and wants out because his coach (an ex patriot coach) is asking him to be versatile

We have jones already in the slot position. Can he play FS? Maybe a replacement for DMac next year.

Some context here?

Are we comparing a mid 2nd round guy to a mid 1st round guy?
More so that Duke was supposed to be a slot corner who could play safety.

Can he play DT or C?

He doesnt want to be versatile and he doesn't want to be a safety. He wants to be strictly a slot CB. Which the Pats just signed their slot CB to an extension
Who cares what he wants? He’ll play where he needs to play, or be out of the league.

In other words, it sounds like they're trying to use him as Pat Chung instead of Devin McCourty.

He is complaining about being used like McCourty - all over the line enabling the defense to be multiple and diverse out of the same basic personnel package.

DMac has been SS, FS, CB even in-the-box SS (essentially a LB) within one series.

Comparing him to DMac after he asks for a trade after W1 because he had all of this on his plate just tells you that he is not really concerned with growing as a football player but more with having the spotlight in anticipation of a big contract down the line.
