Marcus Cannon Injury Watch

The problem with AC joint injuries is that the muscles and ligaments effectively tear. So--you can come back quickly from them, but you will no doubt be weak in that area. Probability for reinjury is high. For many people with that injury, they need surgery.

While I never want to over look a game @ Miami it is fair to say from an X and O stance we shouldn't need Cannon to beat any of the teams in the near future.

Dolphins, Jets, Bills , Redskins. NYG. No particularly good teams or pass rush units. The Jets and Bills probably are the best of them but neither I think has the makings of an elite unit this year. I could see the Jets being scarier in that respect next season potentially.

The Giants, Dolphins and Redskins seem particularly bad in this regard.

Plus, all of those coaching staffs are back on their heels at this point, and probably will remain that way. They won't come up with anything creative to put pressure on the line. They'll be too busy just trying to get the team to play to basics.

If Korey Cunningham goes just keep Ryan Izzo in to Block or chip with the RB's occasionally. That should more than keep our right side serviceable the goal is to keep Brady upright.

If the reports on Cannon are accurate and he's only going to miss a few weeks, I must confess to being the worlds worst doctor, both in real life and on TV. I was sure he broke his arm.
So very happy to be wrong.

I figured he broke his arm too but didn't see it as something that would sideline him long term. Lineman have played with arms in casts before.

Given our schedule, IR would not be a terrible option.

Obviously, the near term problem is who will suit up over the next few weeks in addition to the 5 who were on the OL at the end of the game.

Ferentz and Cannon were active. Will Bodine and Cunningham be enough to be game day backups, with Cannon inactive? I would add one more.

The IR move would create another gamble given only being able to bring 2 players back from IR.
Assuming Harry is one of them and Cannon is the other in that scenario, it would be brutal if another key player or two goes down and is on an 8 week injury timeline. With the possibility of Cannon being out a few weeks, they can hopefully weather the storm in the midst of a favorable schedule. Would hate to see the team being forced to end Cannon’s season prematurely in favor of bringing back 2 other important guys, especially if the reports hold up that he’ll be good to go sooner than later.

Apparently IR is not needed since Cannon will be back soon.

As far as risk under my scenario, if someone else were injured and would be able to come back later in the season, then that player would simply stay on the 53, not much different than Cannon, if he were to be out 6-8 weeks.

Yeah thankfully it doesn’t look like IR is needed.

I guess in that scenario I don’t see the point of passing up a somewhat known situation in Cannon not needing a full 8 weeks vs. assuming that a player or two at a later date can just sit idle as an injured inactive while occupying roster spot(s)

Either way, just glad the team seemingly dodged a more severe bullet with Cannon

Good to read the positive news.

Glad we added an experienced OT and hopefully will have Cajuste back on the team mid-season.
