You would think so.... it’s terrifying how many people disagree with that thesis in cases of alleged sexual assault are concerned....

there are plenty of flaws with the initial presentation of the complaint......I think Brown is a douche, but that doesn't change the appearance of the complaint

I've been sued several times professionally and I can honestly say that every single accusation filed in court was 100% untrue and not even closely related to the truth. We really need the British "loser pays" system of civil justice.

There are criminal penalties for filing false accusations with the Police, no such penalties for putting them in a law suit. Unlike many other civil claims recently (Cosby), this one is NOT outside of the statue of limitations, so if it really did happen, she should have gone to the police and filed charges, the fact that she didn't is quite telling in and of itself.

Anyone with means is crazy if they do not secretly record their "encounters", because this is bound to happen.

Wow - I always thought this was more of an exaggeration. Like no one is actually as irrational as anti-feminists make them out to be. SMY proves this theory wrong. Can you be any more of a militant, anti-fact, SJW than this?

She's partially right, though; there are countless untested rape kits sitting on shelves, along with many other variables/obstacles/hurdles that make it challenging/discouraging for someone to pursue criminal charges in rape/sexual assault cases.

I think we've all been in general situations (unrelated to rape) where we wanted to act but felt the trouble of resolving the situation was not worth it.

None of this means the accusations are automatically true, and of course the evidence should determine how we judge the accuser's and the accused's character. Rather, it's simply a response to those who immediately jump to, "why didn't she tell the police? why didn't she get a rape kit? why did she wait so long? why didn't she bring criminal charges?".

I don't totally understand her response to Ed, though, as he didn't appear to say anything particularly controversial. I'd need more context.

There are countless long-term couples who cohabitate and are extremely happy together, but choose to not get formally/traditionally married. Likewise, there are countless married couples who sleep in separate rooms and have a toxic marriage.

A traditional/formal marriage does not guarantee morally fulfilling sex, in the same way that a lack of marriage does not guarantee unfilling, immoral sex.
I've been with my Girlfriend for 29 yrs this Aug.
We consider ourselves married.

And contrary to how I act here, I consider myself a good/ honest person.

I am a non practicing , confirmed, baptized, Catholic.
Went to communion.

Then again, I could care less what anyone thinks.

I think plaintiffs usually tell most of the truth and most cases are not "extortion." But I once represented an actor accused of sexually assaulting a woman outside of a building in Lower Manhattan. Unfortunately for the plaintiff, the building's exterior camera tapes told a very different story, corroborating most of my client's story. Some pocket change and paperwork ended that case not long after plaintiff's counsel viewed the tapes.

This is exactly what Goodell and the NFL need to put him on the exempt list. Well then, we probably won't see him for some time now I figure

there is no new information....the fact that someone is going to look at it at the crime level will also expose the 'victim' to the potential of criminal behavior........I don't believe that was in her plan, otherwise we'd already be there

Just went to a criminal issue now from DA in Pittsburgh now looking into it

I agree.
Just like Mort reporting that AB hired a Social Media company to hasten his exit from OAK.

Where is the proof?
Mort says it's a "Report", and everyone runs with it as truth!!

AB has had a S.M. co. for awhile before that.
And many other players do as well.

The supposed social media consultant was on the Dan lebatard show on Monday and he said when he heard that he was just like what are they talking about I'm just a 25 year old guy trying to help AB make a video, I'm no consultant, there was no consulting..... Or. Something like that.

Why would the Pats want him on that list?
If they thought there were something to the suit, they would (theoretically) put him there to keep him out of the public eye, while they're waiting for the case's investigation to conclude.

Good. If he's as innocent of wrongdoing as so many of you hope then all this additional scrutiny can only help clear his name.
Why shouldn’t the “hope” be that he isn’t a rapist?

This is exactly what Goodell and the NFL need to put him on the exempt list. Well then, we probably won't see him for some time now I figure
WTF are you talking about? Please explain your comment.
BTW, where did you come from all of a sudden? Hmm.. I wonder, you joined after the Pats lost a Super bowl. I am not accussing you of anything, just listing facts.

Just went to a criminal issue now from DA in Pittsburgh now looking into it

It only becomes a criminal issue when charges are file ala Patrick Chung. The DA can investigate if they want.

There are some videos on the web where apparently AB appears with the accuser after the incident and seems to be a friendly atmosphere.

DA office now investigating on criminal basis according to WEEI

Not gonna lie, from a purely Patriots football perspective, I am hoping the DA’s office finds insufficient evidence to formally charge.

Well, there is now a criminal investigation. That SHOULD mean that the NFL halts its investigation, but it also probably gives Goodell more cover if he decides to toss Brown onto the exempt list.

So, yet again, we could see a team being impacted by the whim of the Ommissioner, without any determinative evidence.
