Fair enough, and I agree with your point to an extent.

I would note that "trouble" in the sense of publicity, while not ideal, doesn't necessarily correlate with anything immoral having occurred.

But yes, I acknowledge your general point and think there's a lot of truth to it.

Monogamy and commitment to family aren't predicated on one another.

One can be non-monogamous yet committed to family and one can be monogamous, yet not committed to family.

From an evolutionary perspective, there is a plethora of different familial structures that has developed among different groups of homo sapiens.

However the inverse is also true. "Antonio has a daughter" is also weak, and on top of that, is a worthless defense for anything. Oj has a daughter. Ray Lewis has a daughter. Bill Cosby has a daughter.

Today's standards of decency rapidly are approaching lows not seen since the days of Carthage in 300 BC.

Very few people seem to have issues with fornication. Be thankful that we're not yet openly engaging in child sacrifice.

I get the point with daughter's of rapist/murderers. I just don't think because someone, who presumably is not a rapist or murderer, states I have a daughter and if I thought my client is a rapist I would not represent him, is an automatically bad statement. He may truly feel that way, we may never truly know.

I should have removed the word "just", because certainly there are marriages that have more meaning than "just" a label/legal construct.

The point I was trying to make is that our traditional construct of marriage is not a necessary condition for a morally fulfilling sexual relationship to occur. Sufficient in some cases, perhaps, but not necessary.

Again, one only needs to observe unhappy, toxic marriages, and fulfilling, loving long-term partners who chose not to get traditionally/formally married.

One can embody the spirit of marriage without getting married in a traditional/formal sense.

After all, what you seem to be referring to are the values of marriage: faithfulness, platonic and romantic love, companionship, mutuality, etc. Those values are ethically and morally good, and I fully support them -- but they are not mutually exclusive to a tightly-defined concept of marriage.
