Maybe I'm just tired at the moment, but I can't recall anything like this entering the league's investigatory purview independent of law enforcement involvement with the player.

Wasn't that the case with the second Roethlisberger case?

Of course, the fact that it was the second such case was a factor not present in this one.

Well, the league will hire investigators, and demand that Brown provide them with all information. The league will also ask the woman to provide them with all the information that she has. The investigation will check into the info and claims, via 3rd parties, documentary evidence, and the like. And, then, Goodell will rule based upon whatever the hell he feels like, as he's shown time and again.

Great. My night is just getting better and better........

Zeke Elliot was never charged with a crime, and yet he was suspended for 6 games under the same “commissioner rules all” precedent set in the Brady case. Is that correct, or am I misremembering? Or perhaps I’m misreading your overall point because the posts are flying in so quickly.

Goodell's made it clear that the league position is that criminality is not needed, charges aren't needed, and convictions aren't needed, in order for the Ommissioner to decide that it's time to screw over a player by suspending him for something that's none of the league's business.

What state did this supposedly occur in? Why is it a “federally filed” lawsuit?
If the parties reside in different states and the requested damages are over $75,000 it can be filed in federal court. Federal courts generally have a much higher quality of judge than state courts do, and with federal judges serving for life rather than (ick) being elected as many states do, there will less likely be home cooking going on.

Any significance to this being a federal lawsuit instead of a state one?

Because this is likely a media-driven case and the media and the public thinks “federal lawsuit” is more serious than “lawsuit”, when really it’s just a lawsuit that meets the requirements for federal court jurisdiction (in this case, the parties reside in different states and the amount in controversy is more than $75,000)

Why would NFL open an investigation into a civil lawsuit, but state they would wait until the outcome of a criminal trial against Kraft? Seems like double standards which isn't really surprising.

Curious if the Steelers or Raiders had any idea that this may have been imminent or were in the know on the situation. Of course there are no guarantees that an NFL “investigation” would look into such.

You should just use a surrogate for sex and I am available at a very reasonable fee.

Are you a disease free attractive female in the Boston area? Asking for a friend.

Billionaire vs Millionaire

Which means you should refer to her an an accuser...

I don't know why you think you have proven otherwise, but I can assure you that you have not.

I may be a victim. You don't call me one until you know for sure what I am a victim of. You refer to them as an accuser. It's real easy.

My post was not intended to be an argument that she should be referred to as a victim.

I simply pointed out that it’s worth bearing in mind that, given the context of the lawsuit, she could be a victim.

Apologies if I took your post out of context.

because kraft makes the NFL a ****load of money relative to AB.

They have a precedent to hold off for a bit if a criminal case is filed. The irony a lot of people aren't getting is because this is civil, the NFL is actually free to immediately investigate.

Just get us through the year and whatever happens to him is his problem.

But only if he didnt do this.

They can immediately investigate a civil lawsuit but cannot immediately investigate a criminal case.

Crazy how quickly a vibe can change from excitement to being bummed out.

He will practice tomorrow and play Sunday.

If he doesn't show up for practice, he will be released.

But he will show up to practice.
Just wanted to say you are one of the best posters on this site. Never disagree with your posts.

In fact, depending on what state it’s filed in, if it had been filed in state court AB may well have petitioned to remove it to federal court anyways to get a perceived more neutral judge.
