He can be cut for anything, and he can basically be suspended for anything. I'd say he's very unlikely to be cut or suspended for this though. Most people have already forgotten but Edelman had a sexual assault lawsuit against him in 2011, it was dropped eventually, and nothing happened.
You realize this isn't true right? If he is cut for non performance related issues he can sue the Patriots to get his money back.

Goddamnit. Why did this have to happen now?

Good instincts from you then because in the end, he was proven to be innocent in the scenario. I thank God you’re not the GM.

"The case was dropped" is different from "he was proven innocent" for what it's worth. Not that he wasn't necessarily innocent.

YES. This isn't going to end today or tomorrow or next week. This is a thing that will hangover this mother****er for months if not several years. Unless he has definitive proof he can release in the next few days that it is ********, this team will be the team employing the guy being charged with rape. EVERY WEEK it will be brought up.

would you be saying the same thing if Tom Brady was accused?

I don't want to criticize you too much. But there's many many credible rape and assault cases that came up a long time after the actual incident and people tried to discredit it by saying "why did she wait so long".

Rape is extremely traumatic and emotionally distressing. A lawsuit opens that person up to having every personal decision picked apart, slut shaming, etc. It's a lot to go through and she wouldn't be the first person to wait.

Go ahead criticize. That's all this society does these days. Rape is traumatic and scary as hell. You fear for your life. Walking down the street is scary. You constantly look over your shoulder. Never feel safe until the perpetrator is in jail. Even then you still don't feel safe. Takes years to get past it. That's why I don't understand the delay in putting these clowns in jail.

I'm reading this thread quickly, but it does take time. So, let me say this, while I'm at about the halfway mark. And, please note that I say this without malice or arrogance, but only from having experience in the field of law, and having researched certain specific aspects of these sorts of cases:

Most of you have no idea what the hell you're talking about on this subject, particularly with regards to legalities, but also with regards to what you "know" to be true.

I hope you never get accused of anything.
Point over your head. The reality is, regardless of whether it's true or not, the Patriots right now have a person on their team being accused and has charges of rape against them. Unless a massive breakthrough comes out in the next day or so, every single week the team will be answering questions about AB. Every single game they will be talking about the accused rapist on our team. It is not something they can get out from under. It really isn't.

As of now, he hasn't played a snap for us. We can cut bait. Nobody will touch him until this is definitively done

I am trying to imagine what this thread would look like if the Pats had not signed him over the weekend.

I would like to think we would look at it from an impartial view. Seems a “little” bit different from Peterson, Rice, Ben, Hunt and Hill. I’m in the camp it should be investigated seriously based on the seriousness of the allegations, but can also see why some could be skeptical based on the little bit of info that the public has been allowed. Gonna let the facts play themselves out before condemning the accuser or the accused. Think the NFL and Patriots should do the same.

Goddamnit. Why did this have to happen now?
Cause we just came back from a commercial break, so the writers had to write something to quickly re engage us

The video cleared him. Big difference.

If most of this board was accused of rape, they would be fired on the spot. Not saying it's good, but no company wants to deal with this.
So now you are making claims you can’t prove

Patriots do not have a single person on their team facing charges of rape.

You sure your a pats fan?

I’ve seen several folks state something along the lines of, “why did she go back to Brown 3 times after she was first raped”, implying the allegations or false, or that they don’t matter because she’s stupid.

Let’s assume the allegations are false. I’ve seen exactly 1 person say the logical equivalent, which is, “why did Brown continue to sexually engage with this woman he knew was extorting him”?

A little consistency please, folks.
No one said Brown was the sharpest nail in the draw.

Terrible PR for the Pats, but that is what it will all amount to be. On first blush the laywer's rebuttal seems far more factually based than anything she claimed. 2 almost indecipherable emails, on the same day about 2 hrs apart, from an obviously angry Brown look worse than it seems. I would interpret it as Brown getting hit up for money by someone who he slept with and doesn't respect much. But that's me.

The whole thing is sketchy beginning with the fact she claims have been raped 3 times over 2 years, and never went to the police????? She was "assaulted" and kept coming back for more....and never went to the police. Instead he's suing him for monetary damages. It will be painful, but like the Neymar case, but unless a LOT more evidence comes to light in her favor, this is going to end up with her in a lot of trouble. If anything Brown should be sued for STUPIDITY for seeing this woman after the first time he slept with her. THERE"s a case she could win.

And here's the thing. All together TOO many women get abused and assaulted in this country. But its cases like this one that make it so much harder for legitimate cases to come to light. Ben Rothlessberger has had a 15 year career in the NFL, instead of 15 years in the slammer because of how difficult it was to get his victim to testify against him, because of the prospect of having her whole life and every decision she ever made judged and made public. Its not right, but its STILL the truth, even today, but worse back then.

However THIS particular case doesn't seem to rise to the level of credibility, at least at THIS particular point. We shall see if there is more to come.

11. SKILL, PERFORMANCE AND CONDUCT. Player understands that he is competing
with other players for a position on Club’s roster within the applicable player limits. If at any time, in the sole judgment of Club, Player’s skill or performance has been unsatisfactory as
compared with that of other players competing for positions on Club’s roster, or if Player has
engaged in personal conduct reasonably judged by Club to adversely affect or reflect on Club,
then Club may terminate this contract
. In addition, during the period any salary cap is legally in effect, this contract may be terminated if, in Club’s opinion, Player is anticipated to make less of a contribution to Club’s ability to compete on the playing field than another player or players whom Club intends to sign or attempts to sign, or another player or players who is or are already on Club’s roster, and for whom Club needs room.

I doubt this lasts even a full two weeks

No, that's not "the reality." He does not have charges against him. She has filed a civil lawsuit; neither she nor law enforcement has pressed charges.

This story will not have legs simply because it will be months before there is any new development. No team in sports is better at playing the "we already made our statement and have nothing to add" game than NE.

Yeah, that's not going to happen anymore than everyone on the Bills spent all of last season talking about how Shady McCoy might have hired someone to break into his own house and attack his ex.
