Wow, that was actually a really great conversation. The one thing even Carter missed, however, is the answer to the question: how did the Patriots' defense get better?

Eye-test...started last year. This D is for real. They can play any style and play it extremely well.

That said, I don't believe in crowning champions (except maybe in the NBA). It's a long season - this one should be extremely interesting. Tom Brady must be out of his mind excited about the possibilities.

(And for another thread: this off-season and next year should be incredibly interesting, as well.)

ESPN and Fox "Loud Men in Fancy Suits" shows focus only on offense.

If they judged NE-KC by total FOOTBALL (Offense/Defense/SpecialTeams), the convo for 2019 would be less superficial. But hey, ratings.

Someone should inform Fantasy Football Legend Nick Wright the difference between NE's and KC's defenses and special teams is canyon-esque and has only gotten wider.

.

Since your last couple of answers when it comes to AB contained impressive depth about what you like about him as a player I wonder what your response is to this:

If anything my instinct is that this is more a factor of the extended plays he often had with Big Ben and not because he is a inaccurate route runner. But maybe you have a better take on it.

BS. AB is one of the best route runner I’ve ever seen. Never mind the top of the route; the guy wins before the route. His releases are second to none (football-wise) :D

Dude said the Patriots would go 10-6 this season like a week or two ago

If Watson was cut and then resigned could AB take 84?

I don’t see why not, seems like a lot of trouble though just for a number.

AB should just take 81.

Graphic Warning: Chris Carter causes Nick Wright's Eyeballs to Explode: :p
(if someone technologically competent can make a copy of that reaction in slo-mo, it would be classic!)
Starting at ~5:35 of the video

I am starting to like Carter :). If Nick Wright does not see a difference between the Patriots from last season and this team with an addition of AB and much better defense he must be a blind Chiefs' fan or just a moron.

I thought technically Watson doesn't have a number because he wasn't on the 53-man roster for week 1.

I am far away from crowning any team just in week 1 but ....maaaan Pats have the best tools to be crowned just at the end of the season.

BS. AB is one of the best route runner I’ve ever seen. Period.

Looking at their schedule, what DB's are we going to facing in the regular season that have any chance of effectively covering AB in man coverage?

Xavien Howard of MIA? Even if he can, so what, we're going to kill them next week.

Denzel Ward, Cleveland? I dunno maybe.

I don't see any real shutdown CB's on any of the more competitive games coming up this year.

I cannot see any shutdown CB in the entire league not only at our schedule. However there is one.....but fortunately he is on our side.

Belichick seems unbothered about Brown’s antics in Oakland and Pittsburgh.

Ravens have a very solid secondary but Earl Thomas is getting a little older and has been spending a lot of time on the IR in recent years.

Chargers have a good secondary but we may not see them until the playoffs.

Exactly. First of all they used a 4-3 last year, now they are a 3-4 team. Danny is playing way netter than MB, Bentley is healthy, Collins is back, Bennett is as good as Flowers but we don't need him playing 80% of the snaps ... They have depth ... O is another level. We miss Gronk for sure (he wasn't the same from 2011 but he was really good), but IMO the only concern is Karras and his floaters, besides that they improved in every position (except TE).

Agree. But if we are talking about man to man coverage it is hard to find example of CB who is able to erase AB entirely. He is a great route runner with excellent hands and speed.

Chargers defense had no chance last season in the playoffs against a weaker receiving core.

If AB keeps his head right, it's hard to imagine us not making the superbowl this year if we stay healthy.

Additionally Darwin James is out and he was phenomenal last year in Chargers.
