OT: Anybody work for Google

I expect a certain Boston media person may contact you for Google usage advice.

Ah well, played Clona! Crisp, dry and with a full bouquet. A Most Clever Insight. :D

.

I know a guy who recently got hired by Google to work out of the Cambridge office. Maybe you'll be working together.

I've been to their Mountain View offices countless times. All of the legendary perks make for great headlines, but at the end of the day it comes down to getting the job done. Fortunately, I've worked with good folks there who are focused on doing a good job. I hope your experience is the same.

Regards,
Chris

So you work at Google huh? I actually just checked your records, and you haven't paid your annual Moderator tax... I'll accept those dues personally ASAP. :D

Congratulations, that's really cool. Hope you can make some connections!

That’s great, have fun! You’ll be right next to the Broad institute which my company collaborates with. Wish I worked with more Pats fans...
I wish I worked with more Broads...

Like most of tech, it's a real sausage fest at my job.

Anyway, it's cool to know that Broads have their own Institute.

Sorry to post this in the main forum but I don't think the other forums get all the visitors.

So I start at Google on the 23rd of this month and was wondering if there was anybody else at Patsfans who works there so I can pick their brain, we can do a PM to keep it private. Being in technology and making it through the Google hiring process is like being a student and getting your acceptance letter to Harvard (or Stanford since everything in the valley is about Stanford). So I'm more than a little excited. I'll still be in MA working out of the Cambridge office.

Congratulations! Big achievement.

I hope you enjoy big tech. I'm not in Google, but I do work for one of the top ten tech companies worldwide. Honestly, I preferred a smaller company. Working in a mega-corporation sometimes feels overwhelming -- I'm simply too small to be relevant. Heck, I'm not even important enough to be a cog in the machine! That said, the perks can be pretty nice. Lots of training and certification available, as well as competitive salaries and benefits in the market. Let us know how it all turns out. :)

Congrats on the new gig!

I don’t work for Google but I have used Google a few times before. Let me know if you need any advice.

Do your job.

And stop posting on this site during working hours or you will....Lose your job.

I don't know how Google works as far as work life balance. But I think you might find after working in one of those high profile and high stress positions you sometimes envy the guy at Town Fair Tire.

Congrats on landing the gig! As someone who’s been in adtech/martech for a long time I’ll be interested to hear your opinion. Please provide 3, 6 and 12 month plan updates ;)

They removed the "do no evil" in their manifesto recently. So enjoy promoting suffering!

What is it that people do at Google, anyways?

I worked for fifteen years at one of the 'four horsemen of the Internet' firms and now that I'm doing similar tech at a much smaller firm I can say I greatly appreciate the much lower stress level, but this firm is not as plugged in with regard to telecommuting so my work/life balance may have shifted in the wrong direction.

Good one Dad!

Request: Please don’t spy on me between the hours 11:00pm and 11:02pm when I spend quality time with the Mrs.

I'll be a solutions architect for GCP, Google Cloud Platform.

Nice. You guys should have owned the Cloud by now but you let AWS sneak by you.

Ok Google. What week will Gronk come back?

It's Google not a fortune teller. I would have said an Oracle but I hate that company, mostly because of how much of a pain in the @ss their licensing is.
