I know a guy who recently got hired by Google to work out of the Cambridge office. Maybe you'll be working together.

I've been to their Mountain View offices countless times. All of the legendary perks make for great headlines, but at the end of the day it comes down to getting the job done. Fortunately, I've worked with good folks there who are focused on doing a good job. I hope your experience is the same.

I hope you enjoy big tech. I'm not in Google, but I do work for one of the top ten tech companies worldwide. Honestly, I preferred a smaller company. Working in a mega-corporation sometimes feels overwhelming -- I'm simply too small to be relevant. Heck, I'm not even important enough to be a cog in the machine! That said, the perks can be pretty nice. Lots of training and certification available, as well as competitive salaries and benefits in the market. Let us know how it all turns out.

I don't know how Google works as far as work life balance. But I think you might find after working in one of those high profile and high stress positions you sometimes envy the guy at Town Fair Tire.

I worked for fifteen years at one of the 'four horsemen of the Internet' firms and now that I'm doing similar tech at a much smaller firm I can say I greatly appreciate the much lower stress level, but this firm is not as plugged in with regard to telecommuting so my work/life balance may have shifted in the wrong direction.
