OT-ish: The gambling thread

Ugh. I lost a game tonight up 10-4 in the 9th inning. The Mets allowed 7 runs in the bottom of the ninth to lose 11-10. Games like that tend to stick with you for a day or two.

This situation has only happened 4 other times in the past 5 years out of about 1,300 games where the home team was losing by 6+ in the bottom of the ninth.

That is just a terrible beat

A few games I am ready to pull the trigger on.

I'm leaning towards Bears -3 tomorrow night vs Green Bay.
Chicago's defense was 1st in points, 3rd in yardage last year.

Carolina at home +3 vs Rams
Super Bowl loser on the road for an opponent's home opener in what will likely be poor conditions.

Titans +6 at Browns
Cleveland's starters looked horrible vs Tampa Bay defense in preseason game 3

Bucs (pk) at home vs 49ers

And a couple college games:

Central Florida -10 at Florida Atlantic
should have jumped on that earlier when it was -7½

Coastal Carolina at Kansas -7
I know Kansas is bad, but Coastal Carolina is bad too - in a much worse conference, and distracted by having to evacuate.

Ohio State -16½ at Cincinnati
Should be like a home game for Buckeyes

So who wins tonight and it will be over or under?

I know the Bears have the better defense but all I can see is one team has Aaron Rodgers and the other has Mitch Trubisky, and the team with Aaron Rodgers is getting 3. Gotta take GB there (no play on the O/U).

Sweet Jesus, someone please hide his kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Has anyone every seen a line move 7 points from what it opened at? Penn state opened -22 and is now -29. Anyone see movement like that aside from games where there was an injury or something?

I don’t recall ever seeing anything like this

Bears win but the important question is will they cover? (I went yes for $50) Thinking the O/U is problematic in that Chicago isn't going to risk the ball scoring any more than it needs to and it's just too early to gauge GB's D. IF I were betting it I'd go under but it's the 1st game of the season and it's a fool's errand throwing money at an O/U with this many unknowns attached.

**** Fnord...I'm OC abyways

I'm with you on da Bears and leaning towards Carolina primarily for the same reasons. I am hoping the Browns mania pushes the number over 7 by gameday to jump on TN

I took CHI-3 late last night, and changed my mind and bought out of the wager this afternoon. I changed it to GB+3 and won a few bucks. Thank God for internet gambling options.

I’m finding myself more indecisive lately, though, with this option. It’s easy to overthink, and I almost did it again when GB went three and out on their first several drives.

I think that both sides were bad picks, tonight. I fell into the “football is back” excitement and probably should’ve sat it out.

I have to admit I fell into the 'first game gotta have some action on it' pit. Thankfully I didn't fall deep. It was a coin flip pick between the under and Chicago -3 and the coin landed wrong.
Safe to say it's not the type of bet either of us would make in a couple of weeks but 1st gameitis happens.

This is very interesting to me.
Houston is +240 at New Orleans week 1.
New Orleans is 0-5 week 1 the last 5 years and 1-9 week 1-2 combined (the only win being week 2 last year at hind vs Cleveland)
This is the exact easy bet based upon history that looks like a sucker bet.

I'm in a huge loser pool w a ton of people around Boston. 1st place is around 50-55k. Straight up/No ATS. I have 3 entries. Thinking more will just f myself bc you obviously can't pick the same team twice.
Guaranteed losers for week 1??
Thoughts? Strategy? Pick everyone who plays against us, KC & another hot team?

Washington
Jax
Arizona/Det lol?
Cinco
Indy
Oak

Road teams only
Avoid division games

I’m using Seattle in my survivor this week so I’d say cincy

Let me tell ya, it's a special feeling when I pick Colorado-Nebraska Over 63 and they have 7 points after 1st quarter, 17 at the half and all of 24 points after 3 quarters.

Then the 2 teams explode for a 38 points 4th quarter. :D:D:D (And in case you're doing the math and saying that only adds up to 62 points, the game is tied at 31-31 so someone has to score more points eventually either here in the 4th or in OT)
