Best patriots Secondary

Ty law
Fred Marion
Lawyer Malloy
Mike Haynes

There's NFW I could not include Harrison in a 'best Pats secondary' list. And while I enjoyed watching "Bang Stick" play Marion is not just behind Rodney but Hall and McCourty are ahead of him as well. This team has had some damn good Safeties through the years

If you're talking today's NFL, you MUST have min. 5 dbs- that's the base and it's been the base for a number of years now.
So I'll add Gilmore, just edging out Rodney and Clayborne.

Agree with John Hannah, Mike Haynes and Stanley Morgan.

Andre Tippett might be another.
Given that Tippett is in Canton I sure the hell hope so!

Steve Nelson

I'm not as old as some here, and came up during the 1980s and 1990s as a fan, but a sleeper is Chris Slade. He had a couple nice years; and a knack for forcing fumbles.

Candidates:
TE: Coates, Francis
T: Gray, Armstrong
G: Hannah
C: Brock, Morris
WR: Morgan, Glenn
RB: Martin, Nance, Cunningham, Collins, Calhoun, James
FB: Gash
QB (backup): Drew, Grogan, Parilli
DT: Anthoine, Hunt
DE: Adams
LB: Tippett, Buoniconti, Brown
CB: Haynes, Clayborne, Lippett
S: McCray, Marion, Fox
K: Cappelletti
P: Camarillo
ST: Tatupu

Nice list. A few additions...

RB: Mack Herron
LB: Nelson, Blackmon

Tippett over Vrabes and playing opposite Willie
Hannah over Mankins
Haynes over Gilly and maybe Law
Morgan over Wes (Moss and JE11 stay)
Francis/Coates over TE2
Bruce over Light
83 Clayton Weishuhn over Mayo
Law is my guy. Are you related to Weishuhn? I liked big Sam Hunt, actually had a 50 jersey because of him.

Good list. Add Veris with Adams.

If we're talking strictly starters, this is very tough.

No QBs
Irving Fryar opposite Randy Moss at wideout with Edelman in the slot
No TEs although I loved Coates and Francis
No RBs - Corey Dillon and Kevin Faulk in completely different roles
Hannah at guard opposite Stephen Neal
Bruce Armstrong opposite Matt Light at tackle
No DTs or DEs
Tipett at LB with Mayo and Hightower (this is the deepest position of all)
CB ? Ty Law and Gilmore
No safeties before BB

Leon Gray is better than Armstrong and Light
Haynes was the best patriot CB
Clayborne was the equal to Law, If he won 3 SB he would have been HOF
Stanley Morgan is on the other side of Moss, With Terry Glenn in the slot.
Mack Herron is the returner

I agree that it's tough for starters... I come to some different conclusions than you do, though.

RB: Curtis Martin (unless his subsequent Jete-ness makes him dead to this list)
WR: Moss, Morgan, Edelman
FB: Sam Gash or Tatupu... can't decide
G: Hannah
T: I'm good with Armstrong, but I lean toward Gray... how can you not have Hannah and Gray side by side on the All-Pats team? ;)
DE: Julius Adams has to be there
LB: Tippett of course
CB: RIGHT NOW... based on time with the team, IMHO: Ty Law and HOF-er Mike Haynes, who also was an ELECTRIC punt returner... but a few more years from Gilmore and he's there.

Man, 40 years before BB/TB12... and MAYBE you get 7 players from that time on the All-Pats team? MAYBE. Just a reminder (as if we need that) of how, over the past two decades... we Pats fans have had it gooooooood. ;)

Nope. Not related.

Clayton had 229 tackles in 1983. The guy was in on every single play. All over the field. Sideline to sideline. He was incredible.....for a year

Nice list. A few additions...

RB: Mack Herron
LB: Nelson, Blackmon

Blackmon was definitely underrated ... Swiss Army Knife type linebacker

Glad to see so many mentions of Tippett. The best Pats LB ever IMO and even though he’s in the HOF he’s still somehow one of the most underrated NFL players of all time. LT’s dominance during the same time and some rough years for the Pats did not help Tip, but man was he dominant.

The Hall of Famers are locks. Hannah, Haynes, Tippett. Martin was mostly a Jet so eh.

I'd add Morgan and Armstrong as locks. Coates as TE2 would be sick.

Conventional wisdom is Bledsoe > Grogan for QB2 but I'm less sure. Durability is a huge edge for Bledsoe, but paradoxically I would trust Grogan more to gut out 1 random game for my team.
