I think we can kiss Michel good bye in 3 seasons. If Zeke is worth 15 a year....Michel justifiably can ask for north of 10 a year...something we won't pay as long as there are rookies or veterans who can come in for cheap.....

We should all pray to God that Michel is so great over the next two years that he wants to hold out and we trade him. At that point we are on the way toward planning a ring for the big toe.

The problem isn't Elliott getting $15M. This issue is structuring an offense that produces an Elliott wanting and "DESERVING" $15M.

The beauty of RBBC is that we have guys with fairly unique but overlapping skills that allow McD the ability to plan unique weekly offensive game plans based on the opponent.

Can't really do that with a $15M RB.

Injuries only compound the problem.

PFT just posted all the details on this deal. Essentially its a 4 year deal that pays Elliot very well through the 2022 season. AFTER that, the last 4 years he gets ZERO guaranteed salaries ($10MM, $10MM, $15MM, $15MM) are throw away years at fairly reasonable salaries if he miraculously survives the beating the Cowboys are going to put on him over the next 4 years. Also notable is that his guarantees past the 2020 are guaranteed ONLY for injury.

So basically the Cowboys are going to be paying top dollar for the next 2 years. After that his guarantees and thus his big money are only for injuries, so if he's healthy but ineffective they have outs as early as after the 2020 season. More likely Elliot will still be reasonably effective for the next four years, and worth the price. After that, he's playing at Dallas' whim.

So while it looked like Gerry caved, he really put on a pretty good parlor trick. He was willing to pay his best offensive player top of the market money for what would looks to be his 4 peak seasons. After that he can save about half that 100 mill if he's still not playing elite ball. I think he did the best he could in a bad situation
