Watching Jerry operate makes you thankful for the brains trust running New England.

The Dallas Cowboys and RB Ezekiel Elliott agree on a 6-year, $90M extension that makes him the highest-paid RB in the NFL. (via Ian Rapoport + Jane Slater)

That is insane. More so the length than the money

My fantasy football team says thank you

Hopefully you grabbed pollard just in case. I worry about injuries especially to players who miss training camps.

No RB in the modern game is worth that much. They are a dime a dozen now. Nice to see Dallas shooting themselves in the foot though. Couldn’t happen to a better team

Don't think Jerruh could try any harder to beat himself than he already has.
So much for the " not setting the RB market" comment. Jerry just set the RB market. He caved....big time. He still has 2 more big contracts to make and he's just told both of them that if they hang tough, they will get top dollar.

BOTTOM LINE - He's going to have a VERY top heavy roster, but minimum wage guys will end up playing if anyone goes down. Kind of reminds me of how the Pats of the late 90's were built. Pats had great starting talent, but when some of them went down, the next guy up was a serious downgrade.

I just had a jolt of déjà vu. The rookie contract is running out on a good-but-not-special Cowboys quarterback. It's going to take a monster contract he isn't really worth to keep him, but if he walks, then what? Here's what I posted on patsfans 12 years ago:

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Agreed
Good but not good enough

For a RB where you can find 4 guys off the street that can do the exact same...unreal.

The 1 RB days are over. 2-3 and paying 1 that? HA

I wonder what the over/under is for Zeke's rushing yards on Sunday?

BB would have laughed and traded his ass. Next man up.
I suspect the Belichick Football Bible would read a lot differently if he hadn’t unearthed a generational talent at QB.

Thank god we have BB and not Jerruh.
I just told a good friend of mine the same exact thing yesterday. He'd be down the road

Another favorite blast from the past: the time Dez Bryant was injured near the end of a training camp practice. Jerry publicly blamed his coaching staff, furious that they make the players keep practicing until the end of practice, which could make them tired.

Cowboys' Bryant out 4-6 weeks with ankle inury

They had it right with Demarco Murray now they go and do this. Draft a RB, run him into the ground, let him walk after his rookie contract. If you’re really feeling crazy franchise him after his rookie deal otherwise just play hardball. The shelf life on a running back is so short it’s insane to make any real monetary investment in one.

HA
Dallas did deploy guys off the street when Zeke went down, and Dallas suffered dramatically.

Pass first teams can get away with less talent at RB
Run-centric teams can’t

If Sony have a Big year this season: if I was Bill I would rip up his original contract. With the cap going up 90Mill will look like a bargain a few years from now. That said Zeke is Elite and deserves it.

Dak sucks so that's why Zeke is important. If they have a top 5 RB Zeke would be gone but still...just stupid $$. And they still have to pay Dak and now after Goff...cowboys will have 6 players with 50% of the salary at this rate

8 years of a RB where their shelf life isn't that long and who knows how long he will last is a big risk.

Hes a slightly above average QB. If DAL gives him $40m guaranteed they are absolutely crazy

IF according to you Dak is slightly above average then what is Jimmy G inquiring minds want to know??

The stupidest part of this fiasco is that they're not even being conservative with Zeke, they're running him into the ground. He was the only RB with over 300 rushing attempts, last season.

And yeah... Dak...

If I'm Dak I hold out immediately. I'm not playing a down as a QB for 2 mil when my owner handing out that kind of money. Brissetts back up getting paid more than Dak.
