Demaryius Thomas cut

Asking as I have no clue,

Why can't they just IR the person without cutting Thomas? What's the rule there?
In order for a player to return from IR they need to be on the initial 53 man roster.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the answer!

Edit: Gotta love how much you learn about the weird intricacies of roster/football management - both in the game and 'off the field' - being a Patriots fan. Sometimes it really makes you think you know more than these other HC's lmao.

I think Thomas was very happy with how he played with the Patriots in game 4. When he came off the field after his last play and hugged Josh for like 20 seconds...you knew they were tight. The only place he is going is the endzone...a lot.

He'll be back

assuming they talked with him about this prior to releasing him. if hes back, I expect it to happen tomorrow

What happens if another team signs him before Monday? This could blow up in BB's face big time.

I really hope this doesn’t bite us in the ass.

Risking Thomas to split to another contender just to keep Gunner or the roster wouldn’t have been my first move.
It’s a calculated risk.
Hand shake agreement.
If it doesn’t come to fruition you have
Edelman
Gordon
Harry
Dorsett
Meyer

And you are fine. The 6th WR was a luxury all along. Had it been Meyers or dorsett that went people would have said too bad but no room.
I think how they deal with using all 6 is a bigger issue than losing one over a handshake.

If a team like the Chiefs or Chargers sign him, Pats are screwd. I don't get this move.

I see... the team is screwed because DT isn’t back

Some of you guys are ****ies

So what if some Team wants to sign him?? Are we talk about a gentleman's agreement here??

Likely they talked about that. Bring you back week 2, be on national tv almost every week. Showcase your talents (prove health) and either sign a extension with the Pats or get a 3 year deal elsewhere. Having said that Denver needs receivers but they had a nasty breakup. I agree with many he will be back. Likely by week 2

It's ludicrous to release him. Gordon likely won't last 16 games. That leaves Edelman and rookies. I don't get this move whatsoever.

I’m not sure why this is being called “shenanigans”. It happens all the time and its called smart roster management . On the other hand, I believe they tried to do this with Bolden last year and he spurned them and went to Miami.

I would be shocked if he went elsewhere. This seems like a great opportunity for him and he and Brady were doing some Brokeback Mountain level bonding on the sidelines throughout the preseason.....not that there’s anything wrong with that.

DT dosent have to sign with anyone if he gets an offer

I know you dont. You don’t get how a football team operates It’s ok. Stick around and read and learn

His contract no longer made sense for either side.
