Let’s see what happened when all is said and done.
He may have been cut to hold a spot for a guy like Andrews( or someone else) to go on Ir after making the 53 so he can return.
Or just to sort out the OL situation with all the new guys, keeping more temporarily.
He could be back in 2-3 days or 2-3 weeks.
Nothing lost if they have a handshake deal.

I think there was a good amount of board members who trashed certain posters which was plain to see.
Stidham could take over for Hoyer today and surpass him in little time.

Bingo. I was one of them. Couldn’t figure out why they had a hard on for Hoyer and how Stidham was overrated. They won’t like this move.

If he’s gone long term, it’s a bit of a gamble. But, aside from 2008, Brady has been iron man. Hopefully that streak will continue.

It was actually pretty embarrassing.

Obviously those posters dont know how to evaluate the QB position

Side Note
Is this Hoyer Crow thread bc some people really need a seat at the table.

And those of us who correctly channeled Belichick would like an apology.

It’s the right move. If Brady goes down for the season, it probably won’t matter. If he goes down in the short term they have a defense which can steal games for them, an elite RB group that can use used to ground and pound the opposition, elite rookie security blankets like Jules and Sweet Feet and a starting OL which will be able to give him the time/protection he needs to sling it.....along with a more limited playbook, so as to not overwhelm him (see Brissett vs Texans).

It is possible that they will indeed bring him back after week one. I have nothing against Hoyer, but I wouldn’t.

Most people on this board (including me) don’t know how to evaluate the QB position

That's my position. No loss if they resign him on Monday or next Monday. I still contend that there would have been a market for him if the offered him in a trade. If BB had decided to go with 2 guy and DIDN'T at least try and trade him, then he wasn't very smart.....and when was the last time BB wasn't very smart (and Jordon Richards doesn't count. ;) )

Maybe he released Hoyer to pick his team as a favor.
The selfish part of me wants him to retire and come on as a coaching assistant sometime.

Benching Butler
Allowing 5 9 Ellis Hobbs on a island against 6 6 Plaxico
Not paying TY Law market value.
Drafting Laurence Maroney and Chad Jackson in a draft loaded with defensive stars.
Drafting Jeremy Mincey over Carlos Dunlap.
I mean he has made mistakes.

Idk. I don’t think many teams would see Hoyer as clearly better than whoever becomes available and most of the ones looking don’t have a lot of hope and may just go with youth and hope.

Oh lord.

I wonder if Hoyer might just take his $1.5 million guaranteed and call it a career. He made enough in the middle of his career that he doesn’t need to keep playing away from his family for near minimum salary.

We just shipped out a 2nd year player that we took in the 2nd round to swap a 7th for a 6th. Our roster is stacked, and theres no way to justify hanging on to Hoyer vs an expected multi-year contributor in the secondary or at WR. This is especially true given Stidham has shown he clearly has the talent to be an NFL qb. He also clearly needs time to learn his trade. If Brady goes down long term we will need to bring someone in regardless.

When the talking heads start reaching for "Brady familiarity," as why he should stay (no performance claims other than Stidham needs time), the writing is on the wall.

How many established NFL corners do you really look at and say would be an upgrade over what we have? Gilmore and Jackson are an absurd outside duo. Gilmore gets paid, so I guess you could make an argument for a few guys on rookie deals. Jackson is a monster value, and damn fine corner regardless. Jones has been a stud STer and damn good slot guy-another UDFA find IIRC. Mccourty twins could arguably be upgraded in performance/value, but then who brings the elder statesman glue to the unit? The Williams kid size alone brings some serious match up potential against softer WRs used to bullying the current Ellis Hobbs of the world (like DT, but I digress).

This defense has some serious potential to disrupt the NFLs current offensive trends. Hopefully Scar has extra duck tape and superglue on hand, the OL all of sudden looks like it has the ability to turn us into a seriously flawed team. With the current musical chairs, we are dangerously thin across the board.

That said, if we get up on Pitt, i fully expect him to watch their last possession from the sideline as a self preservation move. Our dline/lbers are loaded. Lots of preseason played with 0 hands in the dirt. I wonder if BB sees how loaded his secondary is and is letting the big boys get after things a bit to force mistakes rather than wait for them?

I disagree about Butler. Given Butlers's play in Tenn and the reports about his week leading up to the game, isn't it just a matter that Bill decided that he wasn't among his best CB option for THAT game.

I disagree with Moroney. For a late round pick and the fact he had an up and down caree marked by injuries, the end result was a modestly good career and not the abject bust rep he's been given.

And Jackson was one of those "go big or go home" 2nd round picks that went wrong.

Mincy over Dunlap was more the fact that Dunlap was not a scheme fit (though neither was Mincy obviously. ;) ) A mistake in hindsight that was explainable at the time.

No Law, even with his 1o picks for the Jets that year, wasn't worth top dollar. Even the Jets thought so getting rid of him the next year. Because in between those 10 pick were a LOT of receptions and missed coverages when he guessed to make big plays. BB made the right decision on that one.

Yeah, Hobbs on Burris WAS a mistake.

But no question Bill has made mistakes, just not the ones you mentioned ;) But those were hard mistakes, personnel mistakes that are inherently froth with risk. Something as easy as putting a guy you aren't going to keep anyway out for trade is NOT something Bill is likely to miss. (Unless perhaps Brian told him he wouldn't go if traded and would just retire and try to live on the $1.5MM the Pats have to pay him this year. ;) )

I could have gone either way. I see the benefits and disadvantages of rolling into the season with only Stidham. While I personally expected Hoyer to be kept, I am not extremely surprised.

d%#*!@t, I was wrong! I thought we would trade him!

Tell me Andy who do you think the Colts would rather have backing up Jacoby. Brian Hoyer, or Jim Kelly's drunken nephew? And that's just one market. The Lions would be another. And who is backing up Deshawn in Texas? And that's just the Patriots related situations.
