Patriots Cuts

Just a thought that occurred to me. They might surprise everyone by keeping 9 OLmen. ie keeping Crosten so they at least have a week or so to see what they have with the 3 guys they traded for. THEN if they are happy with them, release the 9th guy

Considering that 9 OL on the 53 man roster is their standard, not sure this would be a surprise, honestly..

Roberts is a lock, not necessary for LBs but special teams value. We are running out of bodies for the special team unit.
Burkhead I have a soft spot for for his play in the playoffs.

Disagree that he's a lock because of special teams. Not sure how you can say they're running out of bodies with them still having (at the time of this post) Calhoun, Wright, Melifonwu, Brooks, Bolden, Gant, Ebner, Slater, and a slew of regulars who also play on special teams.

The only surprise is that we don't really have 9 NFL caliber OL right now.

Sure you do. You just have to find 5 NFL caliber starters.

Great question. I really don’t like exposing Edelman to injury returning punts—he takes enough hits as a receiver.

Maybe Meyers, although Phil Perry said he was a bit shaky returning punts.

“Jacobi Meyers has gotten some work as a punt returner over the last few weeks. Had a few shaky reps in Lions joint practices, but the team continued to give him looks there. If the Patriots are set on getting Julian Edelman away from that role, Meyers could help.”
Right. Only Gunner stood out in games. No idea what they saw in practice of course. My bias is for a younger nonstarter like Harry but seems wide open.

Edelman has been our primary PR for years, there's no trickery involved. He can do both.
He's also the best punt returner the team has had since Troy Brown, and might even be all-time better.

Why anyone would want him on the bench is beyond me.

Hoyer right now

We know what Hoyer is capable of. If the unthinkable happens, you are living in a fantasy world if you think you could get 10 or more wins with him under center. Stidham still has to learn but he has more potential.

For 10 games they’re probably screwed. The point of having a proven veteran backup is if you need a quarter or two of capable play in a playoff game or critical late season game.

Im disappointed they cut Gunner Olszewski. i was hoping he would be returning punts. I don't want to see julian returning punts. He's far to valuable as a WR.

I'm not sure you understand what should reasonably be expected of a backup QB.

I’d rather save Edelman returning punts for the big games plus playoffs, especially given his injury history.

Cut Hoyer pls
Before we annoint Stidham as the next great one ( and he may be), preseason doesn't always translate to the regular season.
Here's one guy's stats the last 2 preseasons.....
2018 preseason 33/41 ....... 80.5% .......431 yds 3 TD 1 int..... rating ....124.7
2019 preseason 60/84......71.4%.......475 yds..3 Td.. 0 int . .rating .....97.1
and do you know who that is??
.
.
.
.
.
.
.Nathan Peterman. I am NOT comparing Stidham to Peterman but success in preseason against vanilla defenses and guys who won't sniff the regular season isn't a guarantee

the only reason I can think of to keep Hoyer is a better safe than sorry type mentality.

Can Crossen return Punts with his speed?
I don’t want experiments during something as crucial. Too many games are lost on a bonehead play (Harper?)... JE11 can keep fielding those.
