Patriots Cuts

If I'm BB, I'm doing my utmost to trade Burkhead and Roberts. I think the Pats have better players ahead of both of them and needs that need to be addressed elsewhere..
Roberts is a lock, not necessary for LBs but special teams value. We are running out of bodies for the special team unit.
Burkhead I have a soft spot for for his play in the playoffs.

Roberts doesn’t play coverage teams, or hasn’t in the past at least. Very limited number of ST snaps

Just a thought that occurred to me. They might surprise everyone by keeping 9 OLmen. ie keeping Crosten so they at least have a week or so to see what they have with the 3 guys they traded for. THEN if they are happy with them, release the 9th guy
I kinda think it’s likely they keep 9 OL because they know nothing about the 2 they just brought in. I think you need to start the season with an OT and a IOL in addition to the new acquisitions.

I agree 100%.

I would not be surprised at all. We NEED a 9th OL as a backup who knows the system, for at least a couple of weeks. The open question is whether all three of the new players will be here after Watson is activated. I hope so.

I'm just sad that you don't read my posts. I've said this several times.

Is Croston enough? as I have thought

Or do we need to carry 10 OL's as you seem to considering.

Or keep Ferentz because otherwise they will go into the Steelers game with only one center who’s been in the offense for more than a week.

There’s a chance Roberts & Hoyer get moved today.

Roberts is a steady 2 down linebacker, but I wonder how much he’ll play with Bentley there. And he doesn’t have much ST value and STs took a hit with King going on IR.

Stidham has shown some promise and poise, and even though I like Hoyer as a backup he might be moved to keep another positional player.

Hoyer might be cut and re-signed in a day to allow an IR return player, but he won't be gone from the team entirely. Stidham has shown no mental game yet, just accurate throws and plus mobility.

My prediction: The following will be waived:
Brian Hoyer
Nick Brossette,
Jakob Johnson
Jakobi Meyers
Hjalte Froholdt
Dan Skipper
James Ferentz
Deatrich Wise
Nick Thurman
Trent Harris
Scooby Wright
Elandon Roberts
Terez Hall
Ken Webster
Obi Melifonwu
Malik Gant
Terrence Brooks
Edit, Hoyer is now off my list. I now believe he is safe.

You may be just making a bad list worse. Brooks was unlikely to get cut even before the King injury.

Froholdt was 4th rd pick who was known to be a project with high upside. He may be put on IR immediately after the 53 is finalized but they won’t just dump him.?

After Munson cut, Roberts is likely safe. Who is your projected backup ML if both are gone?

IMO, people unfairly jumped off of the Myers bandwagon far too quickly after the last two preseason games. I doubt that the coaching staff would feel the same way. He was by most accounts the best Pats receiver in camp practices, versus a damn good set of CBs on his own team as well as starting CBs during joint practice. In terms of the issues with Brady vs. the Panthers:

1. Probably ran the wrong route but even if did not cut off the route the ball that Brady threw was likely uncatchable for anyone not named Tyreke or Bethel.
2. Dropped a catchable but poorly thrown pass by Brady.
3. Got called for what was a very borderline holding call on Soney’s long run.

Two of the Pats WRs are on the wrong side of 30. Another is high risk for suspension and is an UDA after next year, but sure let’s just cut a rookie WR with excellent college production despite only two years of starting experience at the position, who has shown throughout the entire training camp to have the potential to be a diamond-in-the rough starting caliber receiver.

Who returns punts?

Bill is going to fake us all out and use Jules as primary PR /KR and use Gordon, Thomas and Harry as primary receivers.

Looking like Jules, but I'd rather someone else. They should try Dorsett back there....

I think Dorsett might end up our KR this year. That's the returner spot I consider wide open, not sure why people are worrying about the spot Julian Edelman has held down for most of a decade.

Who returns punts?
If last year’s WR situation didn’t get Edelman out of doing punt returns, then he’s definitely doing them now that there’s some depth behind him.

Edelman has been our primary PR for years, there's no trickery involved. He can do both.
