2019 draft retrospective and notes on 2020

We have a lot of draft picks next year. I wouldn't mind taking a shot at Simms with one of our 6ths (I think we have 3 or 4). As many of our members know, I was a big fan of the WVU offense this year because of similarities to the Patriots scheme. Simms was a clear third option behind Jennings and Sills, but he displayed decent routes, nice hands, and solid YAC ability. He reminds me a bit of Dorsett, who showed better skills than his stats indicate over the last year.

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as if Bill has any interest in him at all.

Lacrosse player from Massachusetts who led the Big Ten in sacks. Hmmm.

Definitely on the Patsfans Draft Forum Watch List. What a story that would be.

Sadly he didn't, because one of those 6th-rounders would've been enough to win the auction:

Could've signed him as a UDFA too...Can't win if you don't play...

My guess is the DUIs scared them off. We'll see if Simms does anything, but he's probably better than what we'll have a chance at next year in the 6th/7th rounds. If he can develop rapport with Foles, he could turn out okay.

If Raekwon Davis there at 32. I'm taking him. A guy I'm going to keep an eye on for our de needs
is Yetur Gross-Matos - PSU. He won't be a Top 10 pick like Chase Young or Epenesa. But, he's very good. A true junior who will likely declare. I have T, DE and TE as our 3 biggest needs. Safety could leap to the top of list with injuries and a DMac retirement.

It would be nice if that list provided height/weight information too...I would still place WR as a top-3 need ahead of DE, where at least there are options for next season.

we should double dip at WR in the 1st round. There are some insane talents who will fall in our range. If we flip this room in a little more than a year to something like Edelman, Harry, Meyers and Higgins that would be great.

Jonathan Taylor having himself a game. His biggest question mark (other than the Wisconsin OL dominance) was the ability to catch the ball. Two receiving touchdowns already tonight.

RB1 for me in 2020, reminds me of a work horse like Zeke or Gordon

Wisconsin really pumped out Montee Ball :(, James white, Corey Clement, Melvin Gordon, and now JT...RBU

Maryland's offense is really fascinating to watch. They just had a three-running-back formation on the field, where they split out two of the backs in order to spread the safeties/linebackers, then they ran a draw off to the other side of the field for a touchdown, since the defense scrambled to put run defenders out in coverage. They're on track for another 70+ point day!

Real interesting team, almost got Hurts too

Could do some damage in the BIG10 if they can beat PSU and compete with UM

UM doesn't quite look like a power house. I can't believe Maryland didn't reach 70 points again today. That third quarter was a real downer. On to the next slate of games!

I like that idea! I would love to see Bill & McD figure out ways to put 2 RBs in the backfield at the Same time, during a normal series of downs/distances of course...and for shorter distances, how about a T formation with Brady under center, Develin directly behind him, and 2 RBs split behind Develin...simply a matter of taking advantage of the personnel available...

Maryland might average 40 points per game this year.

When NE took Harris and looked short at WR and TE I was expecting some 3 RB formations from the man who popularized the slot and 2 TE offenses
Seems like all of Michel, White, Rex, Harris, and Bolden can run and catch so we shall see

Secretly hoping UM is poor this year, as a bigger NFL fan, the NFL deserves Harbaugh

Definitely an interesting follow, I knew 79-0 was impressive...even on Howard
Their HC and OC got something good going on early

Watching Terry McLaurin go for 5 catches 125 yards and 1 TD is a little painful, but not too bad since we picked up Brown.

Still, I really like the Ole Miss WRs, McLaurin, and Harry, so I'm satisfied we got one of em. AJ Brown also had a 100 yard day, and Metcalf is at 3 catches for 64 yards. I thought he was the most prototypical X in the draft, while McLaurin is a perfect Z, and Harry can line up anywhere. I'll follow all of their careers closely.

Also lowkey worried about Diontae Johnson on the Steelers. He reminds me an awful lot of AB.

Looks like a pretty good WR class, anxious to see Harry

Wanted AJ Brown for NE, but very content with our draft
