Final 53 man roster thread

I'm going to post my list in about a week

The thought has certainly crossed my mind. We'll see if they actually do it.

I've seen them say anywhere between 3-6 months recovery time. If he is on IR DTR that would give him about 3 months between the time it happened to wen a decision has to be made.

I think that would be a bad guess. The EARLIEST if have heard for him to be off the blood thinners is 3 months. That would take him to December before he could even be on the practice field. and its not like he can continue to work out the next 3 months. His activities are going to be limited. More likely he is going to be on thinners for 4-6 months. So David is NOT coming back this season.

Here's my shot at it.

QB (3): 12 Brady, 2 Hoyer, 4 Stidham
RB (5): 26 Michel, 28 White, 37 Harris, 38 Bolden, 46 Develin
WR (5): 11 Edelman, 10 Gordon, 13 Dorsett, 8 Harry, 16 Meyers
TE (2): 83 LaCosse, 85 Izzo
OL (8): 76 Wynn, 62 Thuney, 75 Karras, 69 Mason, 61 Cannon, __ Eluemunor, __ Cunningham, 64 Froholdt
DL (6): 77 Bennett, 93 Guy, 71 Shelton, 91 Wise, 99 Cowart, 70 Butler
EDGE (4): 55 Simon, 90 Calhoun, 50 Winovich 95 Rivers
LB (4): 54 Hightower, 8 Collins, 53 Van Noy, 51 Bentley, 48 Munson
CB (6): 24 Gilmore, 30 McCourty, 31 Jones, 27 Jackson, 33 Williams 29 Dawson
S (5): 32 McCourty, 23 Chung, 21 Harmon, 25 Brooks 22 Malafanu
ST (4): 3 Gostkowski, 7 Bailey, 49 Cardona, 18 Slater, Crossen

Burkhead is traded to the Texans for a 5th rounder in the 2021 draft.

Roberts traded to Detroit for a conditional 6th in 2020

And in my best Soup Nazi voice, "only ONE Jew for you" and sadly Nate Ebner is gone

On Sunday the Pats put Rivers and Calhoun on returnable IR and bring back Ebner and Thomas. Both aren't subject to waivers, so they can be brought back after Rivers and Calhoun go on IR

Explanations - 6 RB who ALL can run and catch is just too many. Rex is gone because of his contract, his injury history, and he is replaced with Harris who can do everything Rex can do and has more upside.

Hoyer stays because he is simply better than Stidham is right now though that could change by November.

I just have a feeling that BOTH Cunningham and Eleumeanor are not here for the long haul. Just one will stay for the season, and Cole Crosten who seems to have pictures of Bill and Linda so we could see him or some other Saturday OL cut back

I'm keeping both Crossen and Malafanu. Crossen is my Slater in training as well as CB depth, and Obi is my binky, as well as some much needed youth and size at the S position. He's worth the slot long term. We certainly should give him as much time as we gave Richards. He's a much better prospect. AND he's my binky. Did I mention that? ;)

I forgot to mention in my original post that I'm putting both Rivers and Calhoun on returnable IR and resigning Thomas and Ebner (TWO Jews for you. ;) )

This is the only part of your post that I’d disagree with, and that’s simply because 1) they no longer have to designate anyone, and can simply bring back whoever is on track after missing the required time at any point in the season, and 2) I don’t think it would be necessary to worry about these players, anyway. Do either of these players have PS eligibility remaining? It doesn’t seem like they’ve played too much, so that’s why I bring it up.

Great call at QB and CB. Ultimately, keeping both Dawson and Crossen seems like a good move, even if one is technically a ST only player. I agree that Burkhead would be the odd man out, but I think that could go 50/50, as it’s difficult to predict where Bill will “count” guys like Bolden (ST?) and Devlin (TE?).

I just noticed that you have extra players at LB and ST. Was that an accident or is this a “poster’s choice” type of deal?

There's no need to designate someone as IR to return but it does matter because you need to keep them for the first day after final cuts for them to be able to return from IR.

He won't be that limited. I had a DVT in my destroyed left leg and went on blood thinners for six months. Doc didn't want me to stop playing softball, but said no pitching or third base (didn't want me to eat a line drive, essentially).

I was weightlifting, hitting the bag - pretty full routine (and this was in my late-50's.

Limitations were minor, and that clot was dangerous.

Now I only take the thinner when I get on a plane. Life is normal.

Not sure DT makes it thru waivers. I'd prob not put Munson on 53 and bring him back if you put DT on IR. I also don't think Calhoun and Rivers make it. Think one is sayonara. Also, allows you to keep Rex if he's not dealt. If Roberts isn't dealt. Obi would get the ax
from your 53.

We also have to put Andrews on original 53 if we think he can play this year..

One spot: Who do you guys rather have?

Rivers - He is cheap and has one more yr on his rookie deal. He is improving. I don't see him playing a lot this season if we stay healthy. I would IR him and stash him for next year.
Calhoum - Was playing well, but is injuried and behind the depth chart. I would waive him.
Hoyer - I don't know if Brady goes down he is much better than Stidham. I would give the rookie the edge and trade or cut him.
Parry - I would love to stash him on PS. Our DT line is signed for next year except for Butler.
Dawson - So... nothing to add here. Looks like a reach. The kid is a 2nd round STer. Try to trade him and move on. I don't think they will. They seem to give guys they use prime capital a lot of chances to develop.
Gunner - Hard cut but we have a lot of guys that can be our returners i would love to stash him.

Munson - My pick. We have HT and Bentley signed for next year. KVN will be very expensive (i am not saying he will sign elsywhere) and Collins if he plays well he will ge paid too. So Munson is showing a lot of upside and he sticks.

Hard disagree about cutting Hoyer. I think Stidham has shown accuracy and nothing else. Hoyer is a legitimate veteran QB who has physical limitations but a much higher football IQ. We won't win much with either of them but our chances are better with Hoyer.

Not sure if Parry is PS eligible, he's got considerable NFL regular season experience.

Of those guys, I keep Hoyer and Calhoun (if his injury isn't season ending). If Rivers is hurt enough for IR, sure, give him another shot next year. Otherwise I don't think he's shown enough to make the cut.

Good points about the linebackers; what appears to be too many good players right now can quickly turn into just enough or not enough with injuries and offseason action. We should definitely not move Bentley for that reason. I wouldn't be opposed to keeping Munson if there were room on my 53, but there isn't. I don't think he has *that* much upside.

I don't think there's much difficulty in cutting Dawson and Gunner. Gunner is the prototypical PS candidate. He won't be claimed and isn't ready for real games but the potential is real. Dawson might warrant a PS spot if unclaimed just because of his supposed upside but honestly to me he looks like a lost cause.

You have 54 players.

The fix is easy. :) You have too many DB's: 12 including Crossen. Actually, you have 13 when Ebner is back on Sunday.

So, my prediction is that we will have fewer than 13 defensive backs come Sunday evening. I suspect that two will be gone before Game 2.

Here's my shot at it.

QB (3): 12 Brady, 2 Hoyer, 4 Stidham
RB (5): 26 Michel, 28 White, 37 Harris, 38 Bolden, 46 Develin
WR (5): 11 Edelman, 10 Gordon, 13 Dorsett, 8 Harry, 16 Meyers
TE (2): 83 LaCosse, 85 Izzo
OL (8): 76 Wynn, 62 Thuney, 75 Karras, 69 Mason, 61 Cannon, __ Eluemunor, __ Cunningham, 64 Froholdt
DL (6): 77 Bennett, 93 Guy, 71 Shelton, 91 Wise, 99 Cowart, 70 Butler
EDGE (4): 55 Simon, 90 Calhoun, 50 Winovich 95 Rivers
LB (4): 54 Hightower, 8 Collins, 53 Van Noy, 51 Bentley, 48 Munson
CB (6): 24 Gilmore, 30 McCourty, 31 Jones, 27 Jackson, 33 Williams 29 Dawson
S (5): 32 McCourty, 23 Chung, 21 Harmon, 25 Brooks 22 Malafanu
ST (4): 3 Gostkowski, 7 Bailey, 49 Cardona, 18 Slater, Crossen

Thought Rivers would amount to something. At this point, why would we even want NE to put him on IR ? He’s no too shown (1) he can stay healthy, nor (2) produce when on the field.

It’s too bad, but let’s move on from him completely.

I had 8 OL on my roster before, but my question is if they'll be comfortable with Froholdt and the 2 new guys as the 3 reserves (presumably Froholdt would be back up center though he's mainly played LG). I wonder if Andrews' situation now forces them to carry 9 OL, including someone whose been here for training camp (e.g., Ferentz, Croston, Gauthier).

Gunner is a lock, book it, put your house on it.

REALLY? That's too bad.

Well if I have too many, I would fix that by releasing Ebner. I think we have enough speed and good athletes on this team to adequately replace Nate Ebner, unfortunately. He never developed into a reliable S on the regular D. He's the guy who would have the least impact on the team. And while he is a great special teamer, he's at a point in his career where you know who he is and what he can do. Guys like Crossen, Malafanu and Dawson still have the potential to grow and become something more than just STer's

I don't know if rivers will be cut or not but ive thought from the begining that it would be awfully hard for a rookie to be injured during his first pre-season to come back. To much time lost.

Locks a/k/a "locks" on offense

QB - Brady, Stidham
RB - Michel, Harris, White, Develin
TE -
OL - Wynn, Thuney, Mason, Cannon, Karras, Cunningham, Eleumenor
WR - Edelman, Gordon, Thomas, Dorsett, Harry, Meyers

And some of those "locks" seem more lock-ish. So I think that there are a fair number of offensive positions still, at least theoretically, in play.
