Why would Houston take on 12 mill for slugs if they don’t want to pay Clowney?
Well they want to pay Clowney 16 mill for one year. And I am sure that they will be happy to pay the 19 next year on a year by year basis. They just don't want to pay him in the future if he gets injured this year.

N0w they may or may not want to pay 5.5 a year for two years for Kiko, but taking on that deal gives them a player at OLB and it frees up money for the fins to take on Clowney. I don't see the fins paying des ford price which was a 2nd. I don't think the fins are in any hurry to compete and I actually think it is a stupid signing.

So the Dolphins still haven’t learned that paying big money to a name player on the D line with a rebuilding team is not the way to go?

But you are saying Houston would take on a bunch of trash for 12 million just to dump him. Why would they do that? They be better off doing nothing.

They’d only be on the hook for one year under the franchise tag unless they decide to re-up him after this season. That also depends on whether or not he signs the tender.

But their intention would be to extend him long term. Why trade for a one year rental?

Then they could do nothing for 10 games, have clowney for the last 6 games at a million a game and then they are at the same place they are now. They only do the deal if they just don't want the headache, if they don't Kiko they can cut him, so harm the Bonus is on the fins books not thiers.

I don't think the fins should sign him either, but if they can get him for a 3rd and get rid of Kiko who will be redundant, then I would do it.

They need another body on the DL. If he works out, they re-sign him. If he doesn't work out, they move on with no dead cap. For a team in the situation that Miami is in, you might as well take a shot as long as the trade compensation isn't ridiculous. Personally, I wouldn't do it if I were them. I would field the weakest team possible since this is a lost season anyway and get the highest draft pick I could in each round so that the maximum possible draft board would be available to me in April. But then, I don't think that Rosen is the answer there.

Don't really care.

I was listening to one of the Texans pre-season games and someone mentioned how talented he was because he did almost nothing in practice and in the pre-season. Just got by on raw talent. Right after, the same commentator wondered why teams were not lined up to get Clowney.

They would be giving away an asset beau ally for free but my point is those players don’t make the deal any better because they aren’t worth the cap hit.

yeah, they could get 15 more cap space by rolling his salary over for next year and they would most likely get and much earlier 3rd rd pick that they would receive as a comp pick, and get it a year earlier. If they don't mind the distraction, keep him for the 6 -8 games like the pats did with Mankins. If they don't want kiko the fins could cut him themselves.

Clowney is a good player, but tends to miss s few games every season due to nagging injuries. Not exactly the kind of durability and dependability you want to break the bank for.

Except he would be the best player in our entire front 6/7
I've heard a few posters say it before (they only watch NE) but I'd guess abt 80% of this board only watches NE play & no one else besides the occasional playoff game/SB. Most fans do tbh. Thats why there so much extreme views like the ones above or in the gdt
