Gronk's Big Announcement

Man, football really really really destroys your body. I just can't imagine some of the stuff that you have to deal with, day after day after day, that all comes from one game a week. Concussions are terrifying in their own right, but what about all the times someone gets drilled in the leg like Gronk did and has to drain the blood out of their leg, deal with sleep deprivation, and still power through the season.

We can go on and on about how the sport used to be even more brutal, how it's nothing compared to what it used to be, but I mean. At the end of the day, this sport is defined by the most freakishly powerful/athletic human beings (which can't be understated - football players are a hybrid of fitness that no sport comes close to matching, outside of the 'freak' players in the NBA like Lebron) on the planet running full speed and hitting each other.

I don't blame Gronk a cent for how he handled any of this. Glad to see him being a voice for other options for pain therapy.

Edit: Added some nuance to "most athletic humans" to further suggest a hybrid of strength and athleticism - that's what is unique to American football players, in my opinion. And what makes them tackling you at full-speed absolutely terrifying.

Have you had surgery yet?
Unfortunately, I have. It sure feels like I should have a second one, but the neurosurgeon doesn’t seem to agree, at least at this point in time.

I don’t know if I’m supposed to find a second opinion to try and push them towards another one or not. I’m in uncharted waters with this stuff.

"Announcement" is a strange nickname to give to your dong.

Weed that grows here in the northeast is some variation of Northern Lights, a primal strain going back decades. Tons of names like Gorilla Glue,White Widow,Trainwreck...ad almost infinitum. Everything is basically a ratio combination of indica to sativa. Heavy stoner highs are usually 80/20 Indica/Sativa while energetic, happy highs stem from 80/20 Sativa/Indica. In the middle are all kinds of ratios, 60/40. 70/30 etc but the main objective is to get a strain to produce a plant high in THC and that is what most growers aim for...25% THC or higher.

Now there is always CBD in any strain you grow but one can manipulate that percentage also and get plants that are extremely high in CBD's and rather low in THC. Once harvested, these strains are boiled down and strained repeatedly until, after adding beeswax and coconut and maybe an essential aromatic oil, you get an easily spreadable salve.
I've used CBD salves for years, especially in the winter.I would never buy any of these marketed products you guys are talking about because, for the most part, they DO suck. You have to put the time in manipulating the genetics of the strain you're growing to get plants to produce high amounts of CBD. It's a craft that requires a lot of time, care and meticulous gardening.

OK, so now you're all wondering if this is all true why can't you find any of real therapeutic value. My answer is simple. A medical marijuana card allows one to grow six plants at any one time(here in RI). Now your choice is, grow plants high in THC that produce multiple pounds of female bud, or grow plants high in CBD that when harvested and manipulated to produce CBD salve, the result is 1 to 1 and a 1/2 OUNCES of product.

The only way things will change is a quantum shift in production on an industrial level. As it stands today, that CBD cream in Wal-mart may as well be Eucerin.
Fascinating. How do you know all this?

Joker suddenly goes from getoffmylawnrantmachine to Wiki?

It doesn’t do anything for anybody. It’s basically for Facebook soccer moms who don’t smoke weed. If you want weed to work as a pain killer, it needs to have THC in it. The most CBD would do is help with inflammation and even then, that wasn’t been proven.

And yet, reducing inflammation is the primary way that NSAIDS (ibuprofen, etc.) and steroids reduce pain. CBD oil doesn't have the system-wide negative side effects that those drugs do.

I guess the alternative of regular use of weed (or opioids) is an option, but not for people who hold down responsible positions in society that we all need to be alert and clear-headed.

A quality control director at one of the more successful biotechs (in Cambridge, coincidentally) said to me, about his industry, "We just create poisons that have more positive side effects than negative ones."

I'd say you're making a generalization you are unqualified to make.......you know anyone with Crohn's? one of my kids has it.......he used lack the appetite to eat for days......CBD-only products has changed that. It also reduces the Crohn's-related intestinal discomfort he experiences at times.......the effect is real

Scratch that first sentence out of my post because I also forgot the effects that it’s had on epilepsy during studies. It’s the effect it has as a pure pain killer that the data is still murky on. For me, it didn’t do what I needed it to do which was help with pain and stress/anxiety. The real thing did that.

Nothing is a panacea. There are a dozen kinds of pain. Nothing works for all of them and there's all sorts of individual generic variances than affect people's responses.

CBD oil doesn't seem to do squat for my arthritic knee pain but it works wonders for my mother-in-laws severe back pain brought on by degenerative disk damage. Her cardiovascular issues make surgery impossible. She was strung out on opioids for years. She probably takes way more CBD oil than recommended, but it's worked wonders for her. An anecdote, I know, and not a clinical trial. Trust me, I'd love to see real data.

I am hesitant to recommend it, though, since it's the wild wild west out there with respect to lack of regulation. Like most "supplements" if you buy a bottle you have no idea what's going to be in it.

PS Looks like Dorian is trending your way!

Cool. Chronic pain sucks, and couple with anxiety, can make life really tough. Seriously, hope for the best for you.

So wrt stress/anxiety, how do you source your weed? I've been using low-dose edibles for sleep and relaxation, and love it, but really notice a difference between the various candies I get (from my kids, whenever they remember). I'd love to be able to do it more predictably and understand the difference. Is the science similar to what Joker posted about types of THC mixtures? How in the world can that be figured out in edibles?
I live in DC, FWIW.

I’ve not been diagnosed with anxiety but I have a stressful job. I directly oversee a team of 13 people and I’m also a green belt in Six Sigma perusing my black belt which means that I have to work on multiple $100k+ projects to earn and keep my certification. So the stress levels can be high. I don’t smoke or take edibles during the day during the week and mostly save it for when I get home. And I definitely don’t take edibles during the work week. I smoke a single hit out of the vape pen of a low CBD/high THC ratio which both helps with the pain (which, honestly, I can easily manage without the weed) and the stress. If it’s a weekend, the edibles they have here come in capsule form and I usually eat a 10mg indica. I can’t do that during the week because I have to get up at 5:00 AM to work out and the edibles just leave me feeling groggy and out of it when I need to be sharp and focused.

Gronk will be hitting the infomercial circuit shortly. Stay tuned...!

he's going to be the juvenile tony robbins

Be careful what you say "out loud." He and Tony Robbins would make an irresistible pair on a CBD infomercial. They'd each add credibility where the other is lacking, and watching Robbins watch Gronk would be worth the price of admission.

I can't speak to the CBD on the shelves at the gas stations but the stuff you get from the medical stores is legit and has vast uses including pain relief. But it requires large dosing and from what I read it still works best when combined with THC.

I need Gronk back for the team but.. He is retired. I am disappointed in him. I understand that he was an injury. Good luck to him.

Life would be a bit easier for professional athletes if the rules were if u can buy it legally in all states then it is compliant. I can see restrictions on high school and ncaa but less in the pros. Eventually they need to unban pot regardless of states.
