Gronk's Big Announcement

Seems like a cool venture. CBD is all the rage now. Has anyone had any success with it? I tried some orally a few times. Doesn’t do anything for me.

The salve really seems to help on painful knees, back etc. I also take the capsules but so far they don't seem to do much for me. Also give the capsules to my dog who had 2 torn ACL's and hip dysplasia. they seem to help her as far as being an anti-inflammatory. Like Wordsmyth posted, they are expensive.

You can get CBD entirely from hemp as opposed to marijuana. And hemp has no psychoactive component like THC in marijuana.
Hemp doesn't (well, that's actually not strictly true, depending on what's near your hemp field), but there's no guarantee any CBD product you buy doesn't have THC in it.

(Very interesting article about CBD production as well as its current legal status.)

yes, but similar in price to many non-generic prescription drugs ($2-3 a pill).

It's expensive stuff. We have a local shop where my dad bought some for back pain.

Gronk claims during the SB he knew it was his last game. Confirms what I suspected all along, he royally screwed the Pats out of getting a free agent TE. He jerked the Pats around for weeks so they couldn’t make any preparations for his retirement.

Gfy

Off the field I cannot say I find Gronk's life very interesting ... but good luck to him.

It doesn’t do anything for anybody. It’s basically for Facebook soccer moms who don’t smoke weed. If you want weed to work as a pain killer, it needs to have THC in it. The most CBD would do is help with inflammation and even then, that wasn’t been proven.

Often times anecdotal evidence precedes clinical studies for some of these studies. It seems to me that there is too much anecdotal evidence to be explained by a placebo effect. I think the legal aspects of cannibus products and the "war of drugs/just say no" political environment had an chilling effect on doing clinical studies in this area. I think that era has passed and we will see more scientific clinical studies on the effects of THC and CBD in the next 5 years.

I will be very surprised if we don't see those studies confirm what we are seeing in the anecdotal evidence

I paid $50 for the small jar, like a cold cream size, back on June 7th. I think it will last me through next week. I disagree with some of the posts here. It works for me. And I'm guessing it worked for Mr. Gronkowski as well.

This is the big announcement that everyone has been waiting for?

Gronks CBD oil and another carrot on a string riddle that Gronk is 50% on returning and 50% on staying retired.

Gronk will be back guaranteed.

I tried CBD for my back issues/nerve issues, and it gave me limited success at best. I wish it were the cure all that some claim. Maybe Gronk has the hookup? It certainly makes me want to give it another chance. In the meantime, at least the THC helps to distract me from constantly honing in on the pain. I think.

Have you had surgery yet?

Good for him. I'll never, for the life of me, understand why so many people seem to broadly find opioid painkillers more acceptable than CBD. I know a handful of people that have turned to it for pain relief that swear by it.

If it helps a guy like Gronk deal with the pain from all that accumulated wear and tear without messing around with highly addictive drugs, all the more power to him and I think he's right to call on the NFL to okay it as, at the absolute minimum, a 'lesser evil' type deal. I didn't even realize the NFL explicitly banned it, although I guess I kinda tacitly assumed as much.

I think the "political environment" and the last vestiges of "killer weed" is a lot prevalent in this discussion. Coupled with the longest war on record for the US, "War on Drugs" results in a whole lot of confusion...

Our very lovable goof ball, Gronk, is all of a sudden going to be the spokesman for this product?? Seems a tad weird...

This is another reason why we will probably not see #87 on the field again. Watson was suspended for 4 games for taking PED's (???) to help his body heal after his initial retirement. Now Gronk is out there promoting this, he may be tested as much as Eric Reed is.

Well I believe that he made a wise if out of the box choice. I think the kind of light that having someone like Gronk as a spokesman, will shine of the ugly side of " pain management" in the NFL will drive the league to "study"," decriminalize", and finally accept CBD and other cannibis type products as alternatives to opioids as soon as this next CBA.

Now IF that happens, then I would put the chances of Gronk coming back in 2020 at about 50-50. Just like Brady in some part plays to enhance is "brand". Gronk back in the league would enhance his brand as well. Besides, a season off for him might be just what is needed to reignite the passion for football he talked about today.

Time will tell, but it seems like he's in a good place right now, with a new challenge to engage him. Again, I'm thrilled this wasn't about the WWE or some B movie he's going to start filming in Malaysia

"I’m here to appeal to the sports governing bodies to update their positions on CBD (so it can be) used by all players. ... For the first time in a decade, I’m pain-free."
Sounds like he read from a script and the claim of being "pain free for the first time in a decade" is likely exaggerated... but I don't blame him.

Weed that grows here in the northeast is some variation of Northern Lights, a primal strain going back decades. Tons of names like Gorilla Glue,White Widow,Trainwreck...ad almost infinitum. Everything is basically a ratio combination of indica to sativa. Heavy stoner highs are usually 80/20 Indica/Sativa while energetic, happy highs stem from 80/20 Sativa/Indica. In the middle are all kinds of ratios, 60/40. 70/30 etc but the main objective is to get a strain to produce a plant high in THC and that is what most growers aim for...25% THC or higher.

Now there is always CBD in any strain you grow but one can manipulate that percentage also and get plants that are extremely high in CBD's and rather low in THC. Once harvested, these strains are boiled down and strained repeatedly until, after adding beeswax and coconut and maybe an essential aromatic oil, you get an easily spreadable salve.
I've used CBD salves for years, especially in the winter.I would never buy any of these marketed products you guys are talking about because, for the most part, they DO suck. You have to put the time in manipulating the genetics of the strain you're growing to get plants to produce high amounts of CBD. It's a craft that requires a lot of time, care and meticulous gardening.

OK, so now you're all wondering if this is all true why can't you find any of real therapeutic value. My answer is simple. A medical marijuana card allows one to grow six plants at any one time(here in RI). Now your choice is, grow plants high in THC that produce multiple pounds of female bud, or grow plants high in CBD that when harvested and manipulated to produce CBD salve, the result is 1 to 1 and a 1/2 OUNCES of product.

The only way things will change is a quantum shift in production on an industrial level. As it stands today, that CBD cream in Wal-mart may as well be Eucerin.
