How to Replace Andrews?

Bill should contact John Sullivan's agent ASAP.

Trade with the Eagles for a backup G and start Karras.
Regarding Philthy, I would either make them an offer for Stefan Wisniewski or wait for them to release old friend Anthony Fabiano.

I've never been a Ferentz fan...but I think Froholdt is going to be a fantastic starting LG or C someday...hopefully with the pats...maybe LG if we don't re-sign Thuney.

It's been said at various websites that the Jets really wanted Froholdt (and Winovich) and have him start at either LG or C....glad we got them instead.

Evan Lazar (whom i have a lot of respect for his football knowledge) thinks Froholdt is an excellent offensive lineman. He's made some mental mistakes in the pre-season but when he is right...he's a freakin rockstar on that line.

I pasted this in the other thread...going to spam you again...

NFL Draft & Combine Profile - Hjalte Froholdt | NFL.com

Overview
Froholdt has primarily lined up at guard, but a move to center might give him his best shot as a pro. He has good power to absorb and neutralize at the point of attack, but there just aren't enough wins as an in-line blocker due to his lack of push. Froholdt also struggles to protect his edges through foot quickness or functional power and he should be able to get the help he needs at center. His ability to play both guard and center strengthens his case to become a solid backup who can step in and start in a pinch.

Strengths
  • Can take reps at either guard spot and center
  • Operates with adequate pad level as an interior blocker
  • Long torso and short legs provides lower center of gravity
  • Strong core for plus contact balance
  • Short-area quickness to mirror slants and sustain on the frontside
  • Excellent radar adjusting to targets in space on short and long pulls
  • Takes optimal track up to middle linebackers on outside zone
  • Able to drop anchor and stand ground against bull rushers
  • Recognizes twist development and responds accordingly in pass pro
  • Posted solid tape in matchup against Alabama's Quinnen Williams, a projected high first-round pick.

OK, looks like we got this covered. I'm going to sleep.

This sucks....first I hope Andrews is OK.

Second, Karras is our best option right now. Lets get behind him!

Third, Froholdt looked like a turnstile on Thursday night...will re-watch that game...but it wasn't pretty on the first viewing...

I agree he had some "issues" Thursday night...but he was solid the previous 2 games. Hopefully he'll learn from that experience.

Mike Pennel at center?

I had Froholdt labeled a (Patriot-Type Player) in 2017 & brought him up as a replacement in the other thread.
I think eventually he'd be fine C but I'd be worried at first. He definitely has what it takes but so much of that specific position is awareness, being on point & communication. Vet centers have made young & old QBs a lot of money. Thats my biggest worry rn. Brutal position. You're the smallest linemen, taking on the biggest guys in the league & have to call out protection/blitz, communicate etc play after play. Lots of responsibility all while asked not to move a muscle which Froholdt struggled w at times last game I believe?

Big fan, again probably watching him before Lazar ;) but a little worried at first. Who knows he might take to it quicker for w/e reason.

One thing I will mention I'm not sure has been brought up but hes played in a bunch of different systems & played well so he's a smart football player.
And when I brought up Karras I mentioned his play in the 2nd level, screen game etc. Think we might take a hit there but Froholdt is a easy mover. Was hoping he would get stronger but it never happened. Almost the opposite Mason in really simplistic terms where he'll be a hell of a player w some added strength.
We'll need to slide some help his way but we have a good, smart athlete there.

Mighty big shoes to fill, UDFA who is the Center for the Pats in 3 SB's, gotta think that Dante and BB have something in mind... but this is somewhat premature as his medical condition and its implications are not known at this time. Blood clots are a general heading and there are many subsets beyond that, then there are the causes of his condition; genetics, diet, lifestyle or other factors..

the talk at draft time was that Froholdt would actually make a better center than guard.

Still, I see a few waiver claims going in at cut downs for some offensive linemen. Think we need to improve on Croston/Skipper (whoever makes the team as the swing tackle) and now on Ferentz, or whoever makes the team in Andrew's absence.

Wonder if Schwenke would consider coming out of retirement? Equally, I wonder if we could trade say Elandon Roberts to the Lions for a lineman? They need a LB after Davis went down and they likely have a similar system to us on the line.

good thing is, whoever the new/temp C is, he has two guys on either side that can help out as they probably know the calls as well as Andrews at this point

I think Karras is the easy choice for center, and Ferentz will be next in line for backup IOL, with Froholdt getting some rotational opportunities.

What's the deal with Yodny Cajuste. Is he hurt? Just realized I haven't heard his name pretty much since he was drafted

Froholdt played quite a bit of center last season at Arkansas, wouldn't mind seeing him ease into the role.

Karras

Or, trade for Trent Williams, kick Wynn to Guard, and kick Thuney to Center.

The reason teams try to avoid something like this is that it has the potential to downgrade multiple positions. Put slightly differently, let's say that you have (made-up ratings on an arbitrary scale from 1 to 10):

LT Wynn 8–LG Thuney 9–C Andrews 8

If you replace Andrews with Karras, you might get this:

LT Wynn 8–LG Thuney 9–C Karras 7

On the flip side, if you trade for Trent Williams, you may end up with this:

LT Williams 9–LG Wynn 7–C Thuney 7

That's not to say that it can't happen, merely that it's not an ideal solution (especially given the likely cost of making that trade).

Karras

Or, trade for Trent Williams, kick Wynn to Guard, and kick Thuney to Center.

Williams is due to make $11 million this season and the Pats have about $13 million of cap space available. So they could make this happen. They may need to get a little creative to create a few extra million to go into the season. They also have 14 picks in the next draft to help facilitate this. Pats' 2020 draft pick haul is crazy good. Williams is still sitting out, but is healthy and ready to play.

Karras. Experience in the system helps here. I’m more concerned about Andrews’ medical situation than the OL’s dip in production, as are many if you.

Karras is the closest thing to continuity as it gets. 3+ years in the system as the primary IOL backup and already has a rapport with Brady. Unless one of the better centers in the league somehow fell on their lap, would rather run with him.
