Comments:

a.) This assumes Gordon will be active for week 1. If not, put him on NFI and pick another guy from below.

b.) Suspended: Ben Watson

c.) I/R or PUP candidates: Cajuste (PUP or redshirt I/R year), Meredith (PUP), Brandon King (I/R), and Maurice Harris (looking like I/R to me or medical settlement release).

d.) Our tough cuts: Rex Burkhead (Damien Harris does what he does and more, IMO), Olszewski (just no room for him in a crowded WR room, but if Gordon isn't activated...), Rivers (numbers crunch...Calhoun takes his spot, IMO), Pennel (I am good with Shelton/Butler/Cowart and we can find a wide body off the street if needed), Obi Meniwouf (Could use a developmental safety, but at the expense of other positions? Or Ebner?), and Crossen (we will miss him on ST's, but someone else has to step up).

I'm pretty sure Izzo has shown well as a blocker both this and last year. Add in his shown ability to run the seam route and he has a spot locked. Before he went down LaCosse doing the best of anyone and showned well in limited preseason action before his injury. The fact they are being so reserved with him indicates they really like him. As does the amount of money paid to him.

When Watson comes back it is possible one of them will be gone though.

This sounds like BB is ready to keep 3 QBs for now since there is quite a gap in experience.

I haven't followed Munson at all...some light reading...

New York Giants: Calvin Munson toils with Pats practice squad
Munson was a somewhat surprising cut by the G-Men at the end of training camp last year. Fortunately, at first, he was re-signed to the New York Giants practice squad on the day he was cut (Sept. 2, 2018).

Big Blue could have certainly used someone like the undrafted free agent from San Diego State during the course of the 2018 NFL season, especially with Alec Ogletreemissing three games for the team, according to Pro Football Reference.

Munson played in 14 contests with Big Blue with five starts in 2017, and he was a key special teams performer. He accumulated 55 tackles last year with two quarterback sacks to his ledger.

But the new regime of general manager Dave Gettleman and head coach Pat Shurmur obviously went in a different direction by cutting Munson again on Sept. 13th.

Serendipity occurred for Munson when he was scooped up by the New England Patriots on Oct. 8th.

2017 NFL Draft Profile: CalvinMunson
Coming out of St. Charles, Missouri's Francis Howell High School, Munson had the choice of playing college football or going into minor league baseball as a 31st-round pick of the home-state Cardinals. He chose to follow his father's footsteps in football (Kurt was a defensive lineman at Oregon State). After playing 11 games as a reserve as a true freshman (four tackles), Munson entered the starting lineup with a bang. He was the team's Defensive Player of the Year and an honorable mention All-Mountain West pick with 83 tackles, 10.5 for loss, four sacks and four interceptions (one touchdown). His production increased as a junior, and he garnered first-team all-conference honors as a result (98 tackles, 15 for loss, 9.5 sacks, two INTs, two forced fumbles). Munson repeated those accolades in 2016, leading the team with 116 stops, 11 for loss, and 4.5 sacks.

STRENGTHS
Physical, hard-charging linebacker. Plays the game downhill and with purpose. Good motor and good aggression. Works to sink under climbing offensive linemen while playing square to the line. Willing to stand his ground and challenge lead blockers with some force. Plays with his hands. Can punch and release to play off of blocks and make tackles. Tackles with heavy pads. Very productive as a starter. Showed coverage talent on special teams early in his career.
WEAKNESSES
Straight-liner with limited lateral acceleration in pursuit. Struggles to redirect his weight and is susceptible to missed tackles in space. No finesse or wiggle in his approach as a blitzer. Runs head-first into blockers rather than trying to slip past their edge. Stiff in coverage and lacks the agility for extended man coverage. Production was a little over-inflated due to amount of run blitzing he was involved in. Instincts look iffy. Will run to spots rather than locating the ball and improvising his path.

SOURCES TELL US
"He's a better athlete than people think. I actually think he will test out okay. He's no more than a backup but he does have special teams ability which could help him stick." - AFC western region scout
BOTTOM LINE
Teams will like his aggressiveness and his ability to stand his ground and bump in the box, but he lacks range as a tackler and can be mismatched in coverage.-Lance Zierlein

You're cutting our ironman starting center for a 30 year old who's pretty much only here because of nepotism?

Yes! Death to Andrews

I would ask why cut Andrews...but since their is less then zero percent of that happening....I won't.

OFFENSE

TE - I don't think that the team has given up on LeCosse. I would think that Watson-Lecosse-Kendricks would be a reasonable set of TE's for the season. So, I have LECOSSE over IZZO.

OL
The place holder is irrelevant. We need to pick up a swing OT.

RB/WR
Is Bolden really a backup RB. RB's are often injured. We need Burkhead. Last year, our SIX WR was also our backup RB. That was the justification for carrying the 6th WR (5 plus Slater).

ST
I don't know why we would prefer Obiwan over Ebner.

DT
There seems to be an issue with Pennel. Having him play with the scrubs all the time should mean something. For me, it is Butler over Pennel, plus carrying a DT or 2 on the PS. However, Belichick could be planning to add a DT, since the plan was Pennel.

Obi is younger, cheaper, a fine physical specimen and I am HOPING can actually play SS and not be a fake placeholder like Ebner. Last pre-season game is the key.

Quite possible.

On a side note, I noticed this earlier from the links to the right ->

I just now realized that Mike Dussault - the guy from PatsPropaganda - landed a gig just a few weeks ago with the Patriots, working as a Content Producer.

Mike used to post here on Pats Fans (as MiDeuce, IIRC) before the Pats Propaganda site became a full time job. Anyways - congrats to Mike.

Why keep Munson over Roberts, though? Especially when you consider the idea of Munson as an ILB thumper? That’s Roberts’ specialty. I’m guessing that you don’t find him to be too “special” at it.

The special teams aspect is also likely factoring into your decision.

Yeah, basically I have Munson over Roberts because I feel that Munson's potential on defense + his availability on STs out-weighs Roberts ability on defense + unavailability on STs. In addition, Bentley's availability should once again cut into Roberts' snaps, just as it was doing last season before the IR.
