Patriots 53-man Roster Projection 3.0: Several Vets Face the Axe

All beat writers are saying that Harmon is in jeopardy. So i think DMac's job is safe. I don't think they will roll with Chung (coming from an injury) and Brooks (new to the system) on S and Harmon (having a rough camping) as backup.
while I don't think Harmon is getting cut, he gets overrated by a lot on this board. He isn't all that good.

Playing around with the picker, it's pretty clear to me that I'm going to be unhappy with some of the cuts - players I really like.

Vets in trouble, going by the whispers here and in other places?:
Harmon (really a head-scratcher, if this is true - next year, more likely)
Dorsett
King
Ebner
Slater (don't believe it)
Pennell
Butler
Roberts
Hoyer
Harris

Rookies/2nd year I'd really hate to lose:
Meyers (don't see him going anywhere, but who knows?)
Crossen (ST play is really good, and he works his ass off on every play)
Cowart (You can't teach the kind of violence he brings to the DL. If they lose him, two years from now, we might all be sighing about it.)

I have the superstitious feeling that posting this will lead to bad things. But knocking on wood and crossing my fingers...

QB (3) T.Brady, B.Hoyer, J.Stidham

I see Ben Volin has Shelton getting cut, saying run stuffers aren’t important. That’s a curious take.

After Arrington i stoped thinking like* that. He was a starter and the savings was null and he was cut. I don't think they care about that. I do think they care about develop players at least one year and if they have a HUGE cap they don't part ways. But i do think they keep him.

That is a good example.

There are players Bill just decides he doesn't want anymore. Malcolm Butler was benched in the Super Bowl, like Arrington.

Is the writer saying Bill is fed up with Burkhead like those two?

I tell myself I can go another day without compiling another 53 man roster projection...but I can't...I need that fix...

Didn't LaCosse return to practice on Monday?

Good question. It wasn't mentioned he was back...but nobody said he was not in attendance either. I happen to think Kendricks is a better player overall that can catch and block. They need someone who can do both if they are going light at TE. I think LaCosse and Saubert are basically the same player. If LaCosse is healthy then he could be an option instead of Saubert on my 53.

QB (3): Brady, Hoyer, Stidham
RB (4): Michel, White, Harris, Burkhead
FB(1): Develin
WR (5): Edelman, Gordon, Thomas, Harry, Meyers
TE (2): LaCosse, Saubert
OL (8): Wynn, Andrews, Thuney, Mason, Cannon, Froholdt, Karras, Skipper

DL (8): Shelton, Guy, Pennel, Cowart, Bennett, Winovich, Calhoun, Simon
LB (5): Roberts, Bentley, Hightower, Collins, van Noy
CB (6): Gilmore, McCourty, Jackson, Williams, Jones, Crossen
S (5): Harmon, Brooks, McCourty, Chung, Gant
ST (6): Bolden, Slater, King, Cardona, Bailey, Gostkowski

Whats really curious is Volin still a sportswriter and not working at Chick-fil-A

For what its worth, I thought that was a REALLY good job. I have just a "few" comments.

After looking over your entire roster these are the minor changes I would make. Eliminate Roberts and King and bring back Dorsett and Obi.

Roberts, who has improved every year he's been with the Pats has been made redundant by Bentley. High, KVN, and Collins can all play inside if necessary. He's a great depth player but in a year when Roster spots are at a premium, that kind of redundancy isn't worth the cost.

Obi just might be my Binky, but I see too much talent from him to keep him over King. I think he has value as a STer (yet unproven), and could eventually turn into a premium S in time. We need to get young in that area. Too early to throw away all that potential
Hopefully he will flash some of that potential in the next 2 practice games.

My projection 2.0

2 QBs - Brady and Stidham
5 RBs - Michel, Harris, develin, white and Holden
7 WRs - Edelman, Gordon, Thomas, Harry, Meyers, Dorsett and skater
2 TEs- lacrosse and izzo
8 OLs- Wynn, Thuney, Andrews, mason, Cannon, Karras, skipper, Froholdt
4 DTs- guy, Shelton, Butler, Cowart
6 DEs- wise, Bennett, Calhoun, rivers, winovich, Simon
6 LBs- Hightower, Collins, Van Noy, Bentley, Roberts, king
6 CBs- Gilmore, Jackson, j McCourty, Williams, Jones, krossen
4 SS - d McCourty, Chung, harmon, brooks
3 ST - Cardona, Bailey, gotkowski

As much as I can’t stand seeing Burkhead trotting out at the worst times, Bolden gets on my nerves even more. Burkhead can do more so I see Bolden taking a hike.

Crossen has surprised me lately with his DB skills. I think he makes it.
A lot of folks here think he’s going to miss the cut but that would be a tough loss. He played a big role holding Tyreek Hill “relatively” in check last year in the AFC championship. He’s also the fastest corner on the team 4.32 40 and a good understudy for Jones who will be gone next year.

Lol. Burhead would easily exceed Bolden’s production had he played his entire career there. He had 8 total TD’s his first year. He’s a better runner and receiver than Bolden.
