It turns out the Patriots also put in a waivers claim for Townsend, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The Giants have a higher waiver priority based on last season’s records.
Townsend, 24, averaged 38.3 net yards with 17 dropped inside the 20-yard line on 70 punts last season for the Raiders.
Maybe not so much what Allen lost then a rook with a higher upside at a lower price.
For anyone with any doubts as to how good Bailey is:
(click on the people are talking about this link, he's posted multiple punts of varying style that Bailey hit in College)
Yup. You can tell when he really likes a guy he doesn't wait.. I think he really likes Allen, along with Etling. Etling had no chance of making it this year and BB knew it early on.I do appreciate that when BB makes his mind up on a veteran, he releases them early and gives them a chance to hook up with a team before the avalanche of releases on cut down day.
It's a tough business but BB doesn't sit back and shine his rings.Positional upgrade, cap savings, and a clear locker room message....no sacred cows.... every day is a fight for your future
Ray Guy has 3.Is it true Ryan Allen has the most SB rings for a punter in NFL history? I coulda sworn I heard that somewhere. Good luck to him, we won’t soon forget him.
What other older players do you see going? So bb may have decided this is the year we’re going young for some reason
I expect now a bit of a tip in any camp battle to favor the younger player
