Pre-preseason game #2 WWIDo version:

QB (3) T.Brady, B.Hoyer, J.Stidham
- If Stidham plays in Nashville as well as he did in Detroit, then the possibility of Hoyer's release starts to become officially serious.

RB (5) J.Develin, J.White, R.Burkhead, S.Michel, D.Harris

WR (5) J.Edelman, P.Dorsett, N.Harry, J.Meyers, B.Berrios
- As long as he doesn't completely suck at WR, then Berrios stays only because somebody on this team has to return punts.

TE (3) S.Anderson, E.Saubert, R.Izzo
- Mister Anderson is the Pass Catcher, Izzo is the Blocker, and Saubert is a little of both, with Kendricks still a possibility there.

C (2) D.Andrews, T.Karras
G (3) S.Mason, J.Thuney, H.Froholdt
T (3) M.Cannon, I.Wynn, C.Croston
- If Bill doesn't trade for Trent Williams, then I hope he at least scours the waiver wire very, Very carefully during Cut-Down Day.

DE (5) M.Bennett, J.Simon, C.Winovich, D.Rivers, S.Calhoun
DT (4) L.Guy, M.Pennel, D.Shelton, D.Wise
- Calhoun's emergence bumps Wise inside, beating Butler for the 3-Tech role.

ILB (1) J.Bentley
OLB (4) D.Hightower, K.VanNoy, J.Collins, C.Sam
- Still prefer Sam's versatility inside, outside & on STs ahead of both Roberts & King.

CB (6) S.Gilmore, J.McCourty, J.Jones, J.Jackson, J.Williams, D.Dawson
- This is the Little Duke's last chance; Crossen should make it to the PS.

SS (2) P.Chung, O.Melifonwu
FS (3) D.McCourty, D.Harmon, T.Brooks
- Brooks sucks on defense, but sadly he's too expensive to cut...and it's been a great story Nate Ebner, but it's now time to give young Talent (local talent to boot) a chance.

ST (4) S.Gostkowski, J.Bailey, J.Cardona, M.Slater
- As long as he doesn't start shanking kicks, then I think Bailey edges Allen.

Total players: 53

CB - K.Crossen
SS - N.Ebner
P - R.Allen

Does suspended Ben Watson have to count among the 53? Or is he exempt?

Doesn't count. I think we'll pick up a tackle and maybe a TE. Could put a guy like Maurice Harris on 53. Send him to IR and pickup/trade for a tackle. So, he can be one of activations if we don't want to lose him. Looks like DT and Cajuste will start year on PUP. Without camp, probably keep Cajuste on IR all year.

when is Cajuste coming back? Need him to replace Skipper on the roster

Don't think Cajuste plays this year little buddy. Gotta be a tackle out there somewhere, better than Skipper eh?

we don't know what is going on with Cajuste. Maybe they are just playing it safe like with Wynn.

I have to think they'd like to have Cajuste out there if they could. Not only are they thin at the position, but he's a promising physical specimen with technique issues who really needs the time in l'accademia Dante. (He's a former high school basketball player and relatively new to football.) He had surgery pre-draft that was projected to keep him out just 3 months, but clearly it's not going according to plan.

On a different topic, nobody seems to have Byron Cowart on their 53. I have a hunch he'll make it.

I do at this point replacing Adam Butler

Aside from the 53, who do we think can be stashed in PS? Not sure if all of these guys qualify for PS. Didn't list guys that have been ballers during preseason that clearly won't clear waivers.

Nick Brossette - RB
Jakob Johnson – RB
Braxton Berrios – WR
Damoun Patterson – WR
Gunner Olszewski – WR
Ryan Davis – WR
Stephen Anderson – TE
Ryan Izzo – TE
Andrew Beck – TE/FB
Eric Saubert – TE
Dan Skipper – OL
Hjalte Froholdt – OL
Cole Croston – OL
Tyree St. Louis – OL
Cedrick Lang – OL
Martez Ivey – OL
Tyler Gauthier – OL
Byron Cowart – DL
Keionta Davis – DL
Nick Thurman – DL
Ufomba Kamalu – DL
Shilique Calhoun – DE/LB (??)
Trent Harris – DL
Christian Sam – LB
Calvin Munson – LB
Terez Hall – LB

AJ Howard – DB/S

My post-game 2/pre-week 3 WWIDo version:

QB (3) T.Brady, B.Hoyer, J.Stidham

RB (6) J.Develin, B.Bolden, J.White, R.Burkhead, S.Michel, D.Harris
- If everybody else remains healthy, then trading Burkhead starts to become a more-serious possibility.

WR (5) J.Edelman, P.Dorsett, J.Gordon, N.Harry, J.Meyers
- Berrios is still a possibility here, but Hoyer's 1st-quarter INT was just as much Berrios' fault as it was Hoyer's...Mo Harris to IR/Injury Settlement.

TE (2) L.Kendricks, E.Saubert
- Based on talent alone, these are our best 2 TEs after Watson; LaCost is a Never-Was, and Izzo's blocking can be replaced by Kendricks with much more pass-catching upside...Can't make the club from the tub, Mister Anderson...

C (2) D.Andrews, T.Karras
G (3) S.Mason, J.Thuney, H.Froholdt
T (3) M.Cannon, I.Wynn, C.Croston
- St Louis instead of Croston is another possibility, as well as going with only 7 and scouring the waiver wire.

DE (5) M.Bennett, D.Wise, J.Simon, C.Winovich, S.Calhoun
DT (4) L.Guy, D.Shelton, M.Pennel, B.Cowart
- Especially if Rivers is sadly sent to IR again...I now have the upside and the lessening chances of slipping through waivers unclaimed of Cowart ahead of the experience and low ceiling of Butler, though it's still a virtual toss-up.

ILB (2) D.Hightower, J.Bentley
OLB (3) K.VanNoy, J.Collins, C.Sam
- Roberts (no STs value) and King (no defensive value) both replaced by Sam, who can do a little of both already and has more upside than either.

CB (6) S.Gilmore, J.McCourty, J.Jones, J.Jackson, J.Williams, D.Dawson
- This is the Little Duke's last chance, with Crossen on speed-dial.

SS (2) P.Chung, O.Melifonwu
FS (3) D.McCourty, D.Harmon, T.Brooks
- Still keeping ObiWon's physical gifts/local dude story over Ebner.

ST (4) S.Gostkowski, J.Bailey, J.Cardona, Slater
- Allen really hasn't done anything wrong, but Bill did spend two draft picks on Bailey...that free kick he had to do was incredible...

Howe suggested in his pre-Panthers article that one option is to just have Thuney be the top backup at tackle. That could save a roster spot in the short term, but I’m not sure they’d stick with seven for long. If one of the seven gets even just a short term injury, then you have to sign an eighth guy anyway.

It could lead to a weird scenario where they have the five starters and three interior backups, though. Easier to find a guard than a tackle right now.

I think Howe has lost his mind with that prediction. No way they only keep 7 OL on the initial roster. Thuney is certainly a backup tackle, but it’s hard for me to see them go with anything less than 8.

Out of those here still remaining, I can easily see Bill paring that # to 7 then put a waiver claim on at least one OT better than Croston/the Skipper and still have 8/9 on the 53 by Sunday night.

Thuney is an excellent LT as has been discussed in this forum often. His senior college year he was there exclusively and never gave up a sack. Froholdt could start at LG in an emergency.

Here is my final roster post preseason game 3.

QB (2) T.Brady, J.Stidham
RB/FB (4) S.Michel, J.White, D.Harris. J.Develin
WR (6) J.Edelman, J.Gordon, N.Harry, D. Thomas P.Dorsett, J.Meyers
TE (2) M.LaCosse, R.Izzo
C (2) D.Andrews, T.Karras
G (3) S.Mason, J.Thuney, H.Froholdt
T (3) M.Cannon, I.Wynn, D.Skipper
DE (5) M.Bennett, J. Simson C.Winovich, S.Calhoun, D.Rivers
DT (4) L.Guy, D.Shelton, A.Butler, B.Cowart
ILB(2) J.Bentley, E.Roberts
OLB(4) D.Hightower, K.VanNoy, J. Collins C.Munson
CB (5) S.Gilmore, J.McCourty, J. Jones, J.Williams, J.Jackson
SS (1) P.Chung
FS (2) D.McCourty, D.Harmon
ST (8) S.Gostkowski, J.Bailey, J.Cardona, M. Slater, B. Bolden, T. Brooks, N. Ebner, K. Crossen.

Notable cuts: Hoyer, Pennel, Dawson, Burkhead, Gunner.
Notable trades: Wise for a 4th-5th.

QB - Hoyer and Stidham are close. Even if week 1 Hoyer would still be slightly the better backup option by week 6 or 8 it will be a tie at worse.
RB - Burkhead was a really tough cut. Looking at it objectively he's been the worst RB on our roster this preseason. Those injuries piled up and now he looks like a shell. Trade him if you can but his contract makes it hard. Sad to see it go this way.
WR - I was willing to let Dorsett walk until I saw how far Meyers has to go vs the 1's.
TE - These spots are now locked.
OL - Keeping only 8 and Froholdt being so unready makes me a bit nervous TBH.
DE - Wise just has not been able to play within the new system well but he's too cheap, good and valuable to straight out cut. Someone would happily give up a 4th or 5th (at worst) to get him into their traditional 4-3. Rivers now sneaks on. He flashed a bit.
DT - Pennel just hasn't done enough and I am now reluctantly on the cut train. Cowart has flashed enough to take the sting away.
LB - Roberts and Munson have injuries and a new scheme to thank for sticking. I still think Roberts could be trade bait but Munson is a guy I'd like them to carry. Bentley has done enough IMO to take that #4 LB spot from him.
CB - Dawson has just been so bad that they can't carry him.
S - No surprises here.
STs - Gunner is a PR. You need to do more than that or be the absolute best in the league to crack this roster. Crossen now sneaks in due to King going down. Maybe they trade Roberts and add another STer?

I think Howe has lost his mind with that prediction. No way they only keep 7 OL on the initial roster. Thuney is certainly a backup tackle, but it’s hard for me to see them go with anything less than 8.

Yeah, if they have 7 OL as of final cutdown, to me that'll signal that they're looking elsewhere for their swing tackle. I guess they could maybe go into week one carrying 7, but there's no way that could be the long term strategy.

Ok. Finally taking a stab at this. Players who will primarily get ST snaps are tagged as such.

QB (2) T.Brady, J.Stidham
RB (6 -2ST) S.Michel, J.Develin, J.White, D.Harris, B.Bolden (ST), R. Burkhead (ST)
WR (6 -1ST) J.Edelman, N.Harry, J.Gordon, P.Dorsett, J.Meyers, M.Slater (ST)
TE (2) M.LaCosse, R.Izzo
C (2) D.Andrews. T. Karras
G (3) S.Mason, J.Thuney, H.Froholdt
T (4) M.Cannon, I.Wynn, D.Skipper
DE (4) M.Bennett, D.Wise, J.Simon, C.Winovich
DT (4) L.Guy, D.Shelton, B.Cowart, A.Butler
ILB(2) J.Bentley, E. Roberts
OLB(4 -1ST) D.Hightower, K.VanNoy, J.Collins, C.Munson (ST)
CB (7 -2ST) S.Gilmore, J.McCourty, J.Jackson, J.Williams, J.Jones, K.Crossen (ST), D. Dawson (ST)
S (5 -2ST) P.Chung, D.McCourty, D.Harmon, T.Brooks (ST), N.Ebner (ST)
ST (3 -3ST) S.Gostkowski, J.Bailey, J.Cardona (all ST)
Total players: 53

Other big ST players (>25% of ST snaps) should include DMac, JJ, Chung, Guy, Devlin, Butler, and JMac.

I'm sure there will be a shuffle of cuts and signings between cut-down day and somebody like Munson could land on the practice squad during that process. It's also possible that a portion of the roster will be temporarily out-of-balance with a cut vet being told that they are likely to be signed later in the week in hopes that they don't find a compelling offer elsewhere.
