Curran: Maurice Harris will be out awhile

IMO the Pats would rather not have Edleman returning punts and Kickoffs. If Berrios continues to show well on ST he may earn a roster spot over another bubble player. Having multiple roles is critical for bottom of the roster players.
The cuts at WR could be brutal considering how poor the 'expertrs' rate out WR corp.

How many people can you have on the PUP? Can Harris also go to the PUP?
Harris can go to IR and be eligible to return week 8 if he is on the 53 to start. They would have to release someone and bring them back after Harris was IR’d. They often do this.

With Gordon back it's an interesting situation related to who they IR.

I'm assuming DT and Meredith will go to IR as they are better players than Harris

I think the NEP would want Harris to go on IR. He's on a cheap deal and knows the offense a little. His $ is cheap and would collect most of it but he might instead want to be released and join another team.

I don't think we can declare Meredith a better player than Harris at this point. Too many variables in their respective histories, and Meredith hasn't had any time in the offense or with Brady to see if they click. Harris seems to be doing well with that.

Why IR DT?

He's on PUP.

That's fine. In his time with CHI ive seen enough to say Meredith is a more talented player. Will he be as good here is a legit question. This is where they need to project.

I sense a rush of updated 53 man roster projections coming or can they hold off until after tonight's game:):):)

I still hope Myers makes the final 53 for his efforts to date and his potential in staying with the team for 4/5 years.

Why not now?

I don't feel good about leaving Nate off.

I feel its light on the o-line

I think they like Cowart.

Except for Wise the whole DE/OLB situation is positionless IMO.

Might need to add another WR. I dunna know...

Skipper is a placeholder. They need to upgrade his role.

Good selection....only skipper worries me but hopefully he will be a back up most of the time..in a push who else could cover?....Cajuste. but he is injured

There is zero support for this position, UNLESS you are referring to the fact that patriots always want to improve, in which case they certainly would like someone to be a better punt returner than Edelman.

I would not waste an IR designation on him...we only have 2.

So what happens if they release Mo with an injured designation? IIRC if he clears waivers his contract reverts to the team, but does that mean he is on the IR for the season and unable to return, or what?

Since you dont have to designate anymore - what are they wasting? The IR him after 53. If they dont need WR help after week 8 he stays on IR. If they do and he is healthy he comes off.

Report from Howe: "Damien Harris made progress Thursday with the minor right hand/wrist injury that kept him out of the Lions game. Harris still practices with a significant amount of tape on the hand and wrist, but he got starting reps in their last practice and used the right hand to ward off a tackler at one point and carried the ball in his right hand on another occasion. By those optics, he should be in position to make his preseason debut. He had a booming start to camp before the setback."

That doesn't seem like a guy who is needing to be put on IR.

Tom E Curran is currently in a Volin-esque slump.

Maybe he should consider talking to sources other than Alex Guerrero.

I've been thinking that the Pats would have some different solution for returning kicks than Edelman for years given how irreplacable he is, but that hasn't really come to pass. Of course, perhaps he is now getting to the age to where they will reconsider.

It may be similar to my long time expectation (6 years at least) that as Brady aged the Pats would develop more of a running game (similar to Elway's last years in Denver) instead of putting the entire offense on Brady's arm. They finally relied more on a running game near the end of last year, it just happened about 5 years later than I expected. Maybe this is the time that they will spell Edelman's return duties also, except perhaps for the playoffs.
