Curran: Maurice Harris will be out awhile

If I were betting, I think Gordon is gone till mid-season, Thomas is PUP and a high ankle sprain could send Harris to IR (can return at week 8).
Lost the first bet

Puts the Pats in a tough position.
He was on the bubble. He seemed to have a good OTA showing, but has been behind Meyers and others recently.
He has portions of three seasons so he is not a vested veteran. If placed on IR he would first go through waivers.
If unclaimed he would revert to IR and be eligible to come off.
But they already have two injured receivers in waiting.

Sounds like his preseason is done.
Pats either have to place him on waivers or hold onto him on the final 53 and then consider whether to waive him and promote someone from the practice squad.

You're incorrect. He would not be eligible to come off the IR if put on IR prior to the cut-down to 53. The Patriots would have to wait until after the cut-downs to 53 to put him on IR for him to be eligible to return.

Often a 6 week injury
It dependes on the seriousness of the sprain, but six weeks wouldn't be out of the question. But even if its six weeks thats about the third week of the season, which gives him plenty of time to impact the season.

True, but could be made IR - after making the 53 - if he was going to miss 4 or 5 weeks of the season.

I'm still assuming neither make the roster but their chances increased for maybe 1-2% to 5-10%. I'm pretty sure Edelman, Harry Meyers, Dorsett and Thomas will all be on the opening day roster. That is 5 guys. Usually they don't like to carry more than that.

Unless Burkhead gets traded/cut, only carry 8 OL or only carry 1 TE during the first 4 weeks that 6th WR has almost no chance to make it.

You think Thomas will be healthy that soon? I agree that is the best five, but I think Thomas will be lucky to come back by October. Harris/Berrios/Inman appear to be gunning for the final spot, and Harris had been the front runner.

BIG EDIT: Gordon reinstatement really shakes up everything.

Edelman
Gordon
Harry
Meyers
Dorsett (I don’t need think there’s much of a chance he gets cut.)

PUP: Thomas

Now do you carry one more considering the riskiness of Gordon? Again it’s down to Inman, Berrios, and Harris, or none of them.

Reading that Curran piece, he really dove off the deep end with his Harry comments and speculation. Tool bag

This is devastating for any player fighting for a spot. He knows someone is going to pass him up now.

I agree, we go with 2 tight ends and 7 wr’s and then send Harris to the retrievable ir.

Why do that when you have Meredith and Thomas already on the PUP?

How many people can you have on the PUP? Can Harris also go to the PUP?

Maybe they carry 7 WR into cut down day. IR Harris that day

Agreed...if Gordon falls off a cliff...it would be nice to have that 7th...and for other reasons as well.

Yes but he would not be avail until week 8

6 going down to 5 (if Gordon has issues) is plenty for the first 8 weeks. Actually, it plenty, period.

Agree. This group is in fine shape unless some crazy stuff happens
