I don't think that Thomas is even in the same category as the players you name. There are Edelman, Thomas and Gordon. When available, the rest are far behind in any depth chart (by the way, I would include Harry).

Are you really saying that you would cut Thomas to keep any of the players below?

I suppose if we were betting the field (the players you name) vs Thomas with regard to season long production, it could be close, but only because of the possibility that Thomas weren't healthy.
if I could interject a thought here. I think you are having an apples to oranges argument here. The way I'm reading it is that you think DT is the better option over JG because past history tells us we never know if or when Gordon will be there. While the other guy is just comparing the WR's athletically.

So here's my question to you. Assuming that when Gordon returns, he will be there the rest of the season, which WR would you rather have. (and I know that is a HUGE assumption, but bear with me)

Yup. We need a bit of depth beyond the 19 I list, and perhaps a DL role player. The most important function of the rest is ST's

14 COMPETING FOR THE LAST 6 ROSTER SPOTS
DL: Calhoun, Wise, Butler, Kamalu, Cowart, Rivers, Parry
LB: Roberts, Sam
CB: Dawson, Crossen, Melifanwu
ST: King, Ebner
==========
MY TOP 19
DL: Bennett, Pennel, Guy, Shelton, Simon, Winovich
LB: Van Noy, Hightower, Collins, Bentley
CB: Gilmore, Jackson, McCourty, Jones, Williams
S : McCourty, Chung, Harmon, Brooks

Between Shillique Calhoun, Obi Melifonwu, Duke Dawson, etc. there are going to be a lot of hard decisions regarding our Mr. Ebner.........

.

Nice. So your approach is to throw insults rather than accept that you were mistaken.

.

....says the guy who just stooped to namecall me a"dlck"

You are special. God Bless.

It’s not addressed to me but Gordon would be my choice with the stipulation he plays a full season. He knows the offense, and is just a better wr overall.

The new guys: 11-on-11 leaders are Meyers, Harris and Berrios through 15 practices (Inman not so good)...

The question isn’t always who will help the team this year, it’s often who will help the team this year, and potentially for the next 4 years.

In the end of the day I would still take my chances on Gordon over DT. I feel like the upside for Gordon is much higher. I look at it as I can make a very risky bet and win $100 or make a somewhat safe bet and potentially win $10.

I would also suggest that Thomas isn't anything like a safe bet until we see him take some snaps with the Patriots. With all due respect to what he's done in his career, we all know how many accomplished veteran receivers have flamed out coming here.

Top 19? That is a very strong endorsement for Brooks....especially this early. BTW- I expect Brooks to make the final roster, but top 19?.....

Agree that we may carry 6 wr and 2 te to open season.

Berrios is going to make the team though. Too many injuries at the position and from what I've read, his play has picked up and he's had a great week.

OK, You all have convinced me. It is quite possible that we will carry 6 WR's and 2 TE's (for 4 weeks). In that case, there is really little choice with regard to WR's:
Edelman. Thomas, Harry
Myers, Dorsett, Harris

We haven't a clue with regard to who will be fill either of TE roster spots, or even whether they currently are on the team.

There are a lot moving parts. No critical decisions need to be made anytime soon.

Agree with your expected top 19, though I am neither a Bentley nor especially a Brooks fan just yet.

My choices for the final 6: Calhoun, Wise, Rivers, Sam, Obiwon & the little Duke.

A nice wrap-up of today's practice, including a "player of the day" nod to none other than Gunner Olszewski:

Patriots-Titans joint practices: Tom Brady’s young weapons step up, scuffles break out and more observations from Day 2 in Tennessee

Edit: more from Andrew Callahan, something I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere. Apparently the team has switched from separate to combined safety & cornerback meetings this year.
The Patriots’ behind-the-scenes change that could take their secondary to another level

Safe to assume Tom plays Saturday? Kenneth Simms made a good point to me the other day that Tom is already getting a lot of work in with joint practices, maybe he’d sit again.

My Top 19 is in terms of being more likely to make the team than the others that I listed as competing. This doesn't mean that Brooks is one of the top players on the defense. Simply, Brooks, especially given his contract, is a heavy favorite to make the 53 as the #4S, or even #5.

Every year, we say that we should keep a PR. Every year, Belichick decides that Edelman is our #1 PR. That's just the way it is.

And, no, a backup PR is not worth a roster spot.

Besides, I suspect that there are others who can be backup PR's, Harry for one.
He decides that Edelman is the #1 punt returner, because he's the best punt returner on the team.

Crazy, I know.

I see no reason for Brady to play in the preseason, other than an appearance in the 3rd game.

Safe to assume Tom plays Saturday? Kenneth Simms made a good point to me the other day that Tom is already getting a lot of work in with joint practices, maybe he’d sit again.

I see no need to play Tom.

About Meyers, based on practice reports, and not counting something unexpected or a sudden rookie wall appearing, I would be shocked if we don't see him suiting up for Week #1

Someone who is consisently being great doesn't suddenly start being mediocre out of the blue. I am really excited about this kids' future, even if it is way too soon to make any prediction

So, do you believe that Berrios is a better WR than Dorsett? than Harris?

That last article gives some clues about the constellation of players that will be on the 53 this year.
