Home opener with Steelers
At Dolphins
Home VS Jets
At Buffalo
Which 2 of these games are you even remotely worried about? LMAO
I'm worried about ALL of them.
Buffalo and the Jets are both vastly improved talent-wise. This will be the Bills Superbowl, at home, and I like their Defense a lot. Playing in Miami this early only magnifies all the troubles we constantly have there regardless of the talent gap that exists. And finally the Steelers are STILL have one of the most very talented rosters in the league. As a matter of fact everyone but Miami haves perhaps more top end talent than the Pats, just not the depth and coaching.
This is the NFL and every team can beat another on a given day. Last year the Pats lost 5 games and EVERY one was to a team that didn't make the playoffs. They all have great athletes. They all have the best coaches available. They all play under the same cap conditions.
I'm afraid we all have forgotten just how hard it is to win ANY football game in the NFL. Thank god, Bill understands. This team recently has started slowly trying to find it's identity. I think it will start even more slowly this season. Bill is, in my opinion. very wisely having the easiest TC of his career. Playing in 3 superbowls in a row means you team has had to play and practice 15 weeks more than a non-playoff team. That's almost a full season of extra high pressure work against the best competition in the league. Also this team had a 3-5 road record last year.
Also as an aside. Coaching and game planning has ALWAYS been a huge advantage for this team. I think one of the reasons why we seem to start so slowly is that in September this is so little film out their to study an opposing team. IMHO the best time to get to the Pats is when they don't know your team well.
So, it is very easy to look at the first 4 teams we play and based on our HISTORY with them, see 4 easy wins. But HISTORY really doesn't mean much in the NFL (for the most part) That's were Bill's greatness shines. He understands that and prepares for it, and understands that September is for creating a unique identity for the CURRENT 53 man roster. What happened before doesn't mean ****. Most roster turn over up to 30% of its players. YOU are everyone's target. A win over the Pats can make a season for a fan base/
Add to all that short of Edelman and Dorsett, we have COMPLETELY turned over the TE and WR postions. 6 weeks of practice and about 3 live quarters of play for the starters during the preseason, is NOT enough time to get everyone on the same page.
I't getting to look like we will have a fine defense and there is talent enough at the WR RB and TE positions to have a top notch offense...EVENTUALLY. But the fact that it won't be at it's best early only makes me worry about September even more. Certainly you can make a great case for 3-1 being a disappointment. But while I'd be unhappy with a 2-2 start, I'd take it in stride knowing the best is yet to come.
