LaCosse Injury

Is retirement a designation, like a PUP?
Kind of but with retirement cap hit minus dead money goes away. With PUP cap stays on the books.

Is there any reason Harry couldn't line up as a tight end until Watson is activated? He's not much smaller than Aaron Hernandez who never really blocked anyone.

Why lose an above average/good receiver for a below average TE?

Maybe the Seahawks will trade away Jacob Hollister for a 3rd or 4rh round future pick :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Can Etling play TE ?

Any idea as to what LaCosse injured? Knee? Ankle? Thought he got rolled up on during a running play.

Did we see anything from Beck? Is he maybe a better blocker than Izzo?

ASJ could be back soon?

It's not all bad , apparently according to SB nation we are only 31st out of 32 teams for the tight end rankings.......and who is at the bottom ?.......it's the good old Raiders

You will see fewer snaps from TE this year than in many years, maybe ever under BB.
FB, 2 RBs, and extra WR will replace as much as 1/3 of the TE role.

Looks like thats the way they are going but how much of that could be dependant on Harry being healthy as it seems he was going to take on part of the Gronk responsibilities......However if the WR's keep improving and get Brady's trust , I think it will be good

Harry doesn’t take gronks responsibilities.
That’s not the way this offense works.
Gronk is gone and they aren’t trying to replace what he did. They are adjusting the offense based upon who they have not cramming who they have into predetermined roles.
When welker left Edelman didn’t replace welker. They don’t play the same role. There is some overlap but they are very different roles.
Simplistically what this offense does is that it is so developed and deep in concept that it has packages and set of plays designed for different personnel and it finds the best roles for the personnel and use the part of the offense that fits it.
When Hernandez went crazy, we didn’t replace him in the 2 TE base scheme, we moved to a different base scheme and deemphasized the 2 TE set, especially in the passing game.
In this case what I think you will see is a major deemphasis of the TE in the passing offense. Now for 20 years we have had packages that deemphasized the TE, but when we have good TEs we don’t use them very much. Now we will feature them.

Maybe I was being too simplistic.....I still think there is overlap between a bigger receiver (Harry) and a tight end (Gronk), so that is where the replication would be , however I do understand your point and agree that the offence has many different facets and will mould to the available players and their skills;)

I’d actually like to see that NE could do with DET TE Logan Thomas. His measurables are ideal. 6’6 250lbs, 4.6 (40), 11-inch mitts, 7 second (3-cone) & a 35.5 inch vertical. Wonder if he can block at all.

Perhaps we can say some routes that gronk excelled on as a TE Harry may excel on as a WR

Yeah been thinking about that and their other TE's with trade scenarios. You gotta believe Bill and Matty had some discussions about trades before and AFTER the preseason game. For sure one the goals of the game was to showcase players for possible trade.

Thomas has played a total of 26 games since 2014 when he was a rookie. He has a total of 144 yard receiving. Looks like he is TE3 on their depth chart.

So what is that going to give us? Would he actually make our 53 ? Sadly...probably yes if he doesnt get hurt beforehand. Bottom line is he's a JAG....more so then LaCosse. We give up someone like Trent Harris or Ufomba Kamalu for him. At the end of the day...his value is not worth much to the team.

I do not think the tight end that will get most of the snaps this year is on our roster yet.

But he should be sometime between August 30th and September 1st.
