He was one of our notable free agent additions but seems as if Mike Pennel has fallen out of favor, he played 5 snaps yesterday all in the second half and is seeing 3rd string reps in practice.

What are people’s thoughts on him making the roster?

A number of veterans didn't play or played minimal snaps, i think they know what they have in pennel and want to see what others can do.

Yes

The only thing that gives me pause is the fact that his snaps were in the second half. If we see that in game 4 we know it's really bad.

He would be a $500k cap hit this year and $250k next year if cut.

I don’t see why not. It’s not like the Patriots have a booming surplus of toilet clogging DTs.

I’d agree if it was just the game but he is playing 3rd string snaps in practice.

Is he? I hadn’t heard that before. If that’s the case, sure it would be concerning, but I don’t recall hearing this. Maybe I’m mistaken.

Curious where you saw that. I'd seen the opposite -- that he'd been starting next to Guy.

David Parry was pretty good with Indy his first few seasons, then he ran into some off field issues but he could have got his life back on track and be ready to play again.

I must be missing all the posts as I only seem to have noticed that he was playing well with Guy and stuffing the run on goal line attempts during practice......I need to wake up.....until I read some of these posts I would have said he makes the team !

If he steps up he may ... perhaps not accepting of the Patriot Way just yet.

It happens .......

Andrew Callahan is trolling. Plain and simple.

I think so but it's been a week or so now that the media has seen others playing with starters. Maybe they want to see more of others but it seems more than "it was just the first playoff game". It's been a camp thing for a short while too.

Other angle is they wanted to see Shelton in action and if he sucked find someone else to replace him ASAP and/or extend him the courtesy of cutting him early so he could hitch on with another team

Not to belittle the O.P. or his question in any way, but I think this is a question better asked after week 2, or even week 3. I think we call all (or at least most) agree that the player in question getting cut before that would be a big surprise, and that means the the player will have another week or two of evaluation by the team. That's the usual approach with veteran players who've made it to the exhibition games portion of the off season.

There have obviously been exceptions, but I think a position as thin as run stuffing DT is likely safe from that.
